Chapter 21: Yu Meiren
Monday morning, many students carrying backpacks stood by the wall outside the gates of the Supernatural Academy. Most of them had heard of the Supernatural Academy since childhood and even dreamed of attending it one day. However, now that the moment had arrived, they felt somewhat anxious and uneasy. They were just ordinary people, whereas the students of the Supernatural Academy were all supernatural beings. The gap between the two sides was far too vast.
Without any training, an ordinary person could not even break a single brick, whereas a supernatural being could effortlessly smash a wall to pieces. Some of the more powerful ones could even topple an entire building.
If these supernatural beings even bumped into them slightly, the ordinary students could easily suffer fractured bones at best or be sent straight to heaven at worst. Just thinking about it sent a chill down their spines.
Zhang Shou spotted Yu Xian walking over with a backpack and smiled. "Salted Fish, over here!"
Yu Xian strolled up unhurriedly. "I was wondering why I didn't bump into you on the way. Did you spend the night at the branch office?"
After glancing around to make sure no one was listening, Zhang Shou explained in a low voice, "Yeah. Dr. Chen said that although I cannot grow stronger through physical training, I seem to have a digitized attribute panel. The stats on this panel can be improved, which will enhance my various abilities."
Yu Xian nodded and did not pursue the topic. He glanced around. "Why isn't anyone going in?"
Suddenly, Chen Ling appeared out of nowhere, popping her head out from behind the two of them and pressing her hands onto their shoulders. "This is the Supernatural Academy, you know! Aren't you nervous?"
Yu Xian shook his head. "It's still just a school. Besides, we aren't even in the same classes as the students of the Supernatural Academy. Let's go."
He led the way toward the gates of the Supernatural Academy. Right then, however, a car bearing a bat emblem pulled up and stopped at the gates. Nora stepped out. The students who had been whispering around immediately froze in place, all falling silent.
The blonde beauty’s charm was simply too overwhelming for ordinary students to resist. Students from Silver City Third High had at least seen Nora before, but those from the other schools had not. For a moment, the picture-perfect scene captivated all of them.
Yu Xian greeted Nora with a smile. "Morning, dazed goose."
Hearing his greeting, everyone snapped back to reality. Nora had initially been quite pleased to see Yu Xian and the others, but when she heard him, her face instantly darkened.
She quickly stepped forward, stomped heavily on Yu Xian's foot, and huffed in annoyance. "You're the one who's a dazed goose."
This scene of a handsome boy and a beautiful girl interacting so familiarly shattered the hearts of many male students on the spot.
Crack!
Chen Ling chimed in. "Nora, are you going back to your original class, or will you be in the same class as us?"
Nora flipped her hair. Realizing she was standing a bit too close to Yu Xian, she took a small step back. "I had transferred to your school, so of course, I'll be in the same class as you guys."
Yu Xian smiled, paying no mind to the footprint on his shoe. "Then what are we waiting for? Let's go."
Yu Xian walked ahead, and the others quickly followed suit. Seeing Yu Xian and his group enter the school, the rest of the students followed the crowd and streamed inside.
They had barely walked some distance when the trees on both sides of the path grew wildly all of a sudden. Dense clusters of flowers bloomed instantly. From the foliage emerged over a dozen students of the Supernatural Academy; these newcomers rose into the air and released multicolored flames from their hands that burst into brilliant fireworks overhead. Then lines of text appeared all around them.
Hello, new students!
The Supernatural Academy welcomes you!
Adversity is the highest institution for tempering one's character.
No matter how long the night, the dawn will eventually come.
Every fall is for the sake of standing up better next time.
Some of the students of the Supernatural Academy presented the newcomers with fresh flowers, while others handed out small trinkets. After that, many of them stepped aside as a tall, beautiful girl with long silver hair walked out from among them.
The girl smiled. "I am Yu Meiren, the student council president. Everyone, welcome to the Supernatural Academy. If you encounter any difficulties in the future, feel free to come to the student council and look for me."
Since Yu Xian was standing right at the front of the ordinary students, he could only politely express gratitude on behalf of the group. However, as he looked into Yu Meiren's eyes, a strange sensation washed over him. It seemed as though the reflection of ordinary students like them didn't register in her eyes at all.
Is this just a show? Despite the thought stirring inside his mind, he maintained a polite smile on the surface.
Yu Meiren led the crowd toward the academic building. The teachers were already waiting at the entrance of the building, and everyone proceeded to the new classrooms together.
Before the classroom doors, Yu Meiren reminded them once more that if they ran into any trouble, they could reach out to her or the student council, and promised to find a way to resolve any issues that may arise. Finally, she led all the Supernatural Academy's students away, leaving Yu Xian and the others to begin their class assignments.
The ordinary student division of the Supernatural Academy was divided into two classes for the third year of high school. Generally, students from the same school were assigned to the same class. Since Yu Xian had timely rescued quite a few of his classmates, Class 1 was composed almost entirely of students from Silver City Third High, even if they hadn't been in the same class previously.
Due to the Aberrant Parasites incident, everyone had already crossed paths before. Once they took their seats, they quickly grew familiar with one another again. Quite a few students had even brought gifts and stepped forward to thank Yu Xian and his friends for saving their lives. Among them, a dozen or so students whom Zhang Shou had healed showed immense respect toward them.
Yu Xian, Zhang Shou, Nora, and Chen Ling sat on the left side of the classroom, occupying the first and second seats of the third and fourth rows.
Sitting to Nora's right, Chen Ling smiled. "I didn't expect the students at the Supernatural Academy to be so warm and friendly. I thought they would look down on us."
Nora replied matter-of-factly, "They aren't fools. How could they possibly do something like that?"
If any student dared to discriminate against these newly enrolled ordinary students today, the discrimination would make internet headlines by the afternoon. By the evening, they would likely face a nationwide cyber-witch hunt, and there was a chance the authorities would even quietly step in to teach such idiots exactly who was in charge of the country.
After all, the only reason these new students had been enrolled in the Supernatural Academy was the Aberrant Parasites incident, a massive event that had shocked the entire nation. Anything related to this matter was guaranteed to attract a massive wave of public attention.
The student council had organized all the Supernatural Academy students to give the surviving ordinary students a warm welcome. Not only would it earn them a wave of goodwill from the public nationwide, but it would also boost the student council's reputation. Even if some students harbored different thoughts, Yu Meiren would ruthlessly suppress them.
Nora, who was sitting in front of Yu Xian, turned around. Wearing gloves, she placed a massive silver ingot onto his desk. "Here you go."
She had previously promised to give him 10 kg of silver, but after Roche had taken her back to the villa, she hadn't found an opportunity to give it to him. Now, she had finally fulfilled her promise.
Zhang Shou's eyes widened. "Wow! What a massive chunk of silver!"
Currently, the price of silver was nearly on par with gold. Besides vampires, various government organizations were also purchasing silver. Furthermore, shamans and Daoist priests needed silver as well. It was said that shamans could use alchemy to refine silver alongside several other metals and materials into mythril. Due to all these factors, the price of silver on the international market was rising year by year.
Yu Xian picked up the silver. After taking a bite to confirm its purity, he smiled. "Thanks."
Zhang Shou looked at Nora with a fawning expression. "Rich lady, hungry, food, food."
Nora placed a bullet onto Zhang Shou's desk and said with distaste, "I'm a vampire. I don't eat normal food, so I don't have any meals to offer you, but I've got plenty of bullets. Care for a bite?"
Chen Ling laughed. "Nicely done."
Zhang Shou quickly admitted defeat and backed down, though he quietly pocketed the bullet. After all, this was an incredibly expensive explosive round.
As the four of them were fooling around, Yu Xian's and Zhang Shou's phones chimed simultaneously with the sound of a text message. They pulled out their phones at the same time. Chen Ling noticed that their phones were identical, looking somewhat like official-issue, specialized devices.
After reading the text message from Jin Sheng, Yu Xian and Zhang Shou exchanged a glance and nodded to each other.
