Only after Bart had completely stopped breathing did Vade relax slightly.

Today had certainly been an unusual experience. He had been kidnapped by Dark wizards, killed someone for the first time, and nearly been killed himself for the first time. The performance had barely counted as a success, but it had advanced the digestion of the Magician potion somewhat, which was an unexpected bonus.

Vade gathered his thoughts and began collecting his spoils.

He searched the three bodies first, then went through the entire house. In total, he found three wands, several hundred Galleons, more than a hundred Sickles, and a number of Knuts.

After placing all the spoils into his pouch, Vade turned his attention to the egg of the unknown magical creature.

He examined it briefly, put it into the pouch as well, then hurried towards the door.

This was Knockturn Alley. There was no telling when danger might appear, so it was better to leave as quickly as possible.

He had only taken a few steps when something occurred to him, and he turned to look at the three corpses.

Quite a few people had seen the witch abduct him and bring him here. It would not matter if he left unharmed, since others might assume he had paid a ransom. However, if all three Dark wizards were found dead, people might begin making connections.

"As long as I leave no evidence behind, no one should believe that a young wizard killed three Dark wizards," Vade thought helplessly. Suppressing his nausea, he used the Vanishing Spell to clean up the scene.

He could not yet make a living person vanish, much less a powerful wizard, but he could manage it with corpses.

After disposing of the bodies and eliminating the evidence, he tossed out a paper figurine and destroyed it, then performed a divination with a coin.

Only after confirming that no one was outside did he put on a temporary mask created through Transfiguration and walk out openly.

By combining the Clown’s danger intuition with the Seer’s divination, he skilfully avoided several people’s lines of sight and successfully reached the entrance to Knockturn Alley.

No one was there.

Vade was delighted to see that the narrow passage connecting Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley was deserted.

Just as he was about to cross it, an image suddenly flashed through his mind.

Without time to think, he immediately stopped and hid behind a wall.

A moment later, a familiar figure walked towards Diagon Alley, carrying something round wrapped in cloth.

"Quirrell and Voldemort. What are the chances of running into them here?" Vade instinctively pressed a hand to his chest and felt his accelerated heartbeat.

Voldemort might not necessarily kill him if they met in Knockturn Alley, but the encounter would inevitably draw his attention.

A first-year wizard entering Knockturn Alley alone and leaving completely unharmed would look suspicious no matter how one considered it.

After Quirrell disappeared from sight, Vade performed another divination with a Knut. Only after confirming that it was safe to leave did he hurry through the narrow passage.

Once he was standing in Diagon Alley again, Vade finally felt a little safer.

Vade removed his mask and walked towards the Leaky Cauldron as though nothing had happened.

Entering the pub through the back door, Vade slapped a Galleon onto the counter. "One night, please."

Tom raised his eyes and glanced at him. "The best room again?"

"Of course."

Tom took a key from a drawer. "Go on up. You know which room it is.

"Are you still cooking your own dinner?"

"Hmm..." Vade considered it for a moment, then placed two Sickles on the counter. "This is for the ingredients."

Tom gave a helpless laugh. "The food served by the pub really isn’t that bad."

"Boss, you know me. I never compromise when it comes to food."

"All right. Suit yourself."

Vade went upstairs with light steps and entered the familiar Room Two. The cut he had left in the wall with a sheet of parchment was still there and had yet to be discovered.

He first went to the washroom and splashed water on his face, allowing himself to calm down slightly. Only then did he take out the pouch and count everything he had gained that day.

Although the pouch he had obtained from Quirrell had been enchanted with an Extension Charm, the space inside was less than one cubic metre, and its appearance was remarkably plain.

If he already knew how to cast the Extension Charm, he would certainly make himself a stylish wallet with a much larger capacity.

He emptied everything from the pouch. There were bundles of basic alchemical materials, a large pile of gold, silver, and bronze coins, three wands, and the egg of an unknown magical creature.

He casually tossed the alchemical materials onto the bed, then counted the coins one by one. His total assets now exceeded eighteen hundred Galleons.

"I suppose that makes me wealthy. I just don’t know how long I’ll be able to keep the money." Vade laughed at himself. The Sequence 6 formula and each main ingredient cost one thousand Galleons. This amount would only be enough to purchase the formula. He could not even afford a main ingredient.

Pushing the concern from his mind, he examined the three wands. They were made from ebony, willow, and fir respectively. As for their cores, perhaps only Ollivander could identify them.

Vade tested them one by one and discovered that, compared with his own wand, using someone else’s merely felt slightly awkward. There were no other obvious drawbacks.

"I’ll keep them for now. They may prove useful in the future."

Only then did he pick up the magical creature’s egg and examine it carefully. Judging from the patterns on its shell, it possessed both wind and lightning attributes. Based on its size and weight, it would probably grow into an enormous creature.

To discover exactly what it was, however, he would need to perform a detailed divination.

"The origin of this egg."

Vade tore off a piece of parchment and wrote down the divination statement.

After repeating it seven times, he held the parchment in one hand and placed the other against the surface of the egg.

Before long, he entered a meditative state and found himself within an indistinct, hazy dream.

The grey world gradually became clear. He saw a blue sky and a large beast whose features remained blurred.

Its body was nearly five metres long, and it flew at tremendous speed. Its wings cut through the air with a piercing howl.

The dream then changed.

Accompanied by a shrill cry, the beast flew into the sky once more. This time, its flight was unsteady, and it appeared to be badly injured. Clutched in the talons of its forelimbs was a yellow egg.

It flew through a vast bank of thunderclouds. Lightning repeatedly struck its body and wings, and blood rained down from the clouds. Several times, it nearly fell from the sky.

Even so, it endured the pain and stubbornly continued until it reached a mountain peak, where it placed the egg inside a nest.

Then, as though it had made a difficult decision, it beat its injured wings and flew into the distance.

Not long after it left, another enormous creature descended leisurely from the thunderclouds. It noticed the egg and stared at it in confusion for a while, then spread its wings and settled over it.

The dream ended there. Vade awoke from his meditative state, and the way he looked at the egg changed.

"A griffin, and a mutated one at that. I wonder whether I can afford to raise it."
