Chapter 245: This Big Idiot
Chapter 245: Chapter 127: This Big Idiot
Hearing Jiang Mu’s remark that she was “still quite charming,” Yan Zixiao nearly spat out his drink and couldn’t help but snort with laughter.
“Kid, did you read so many books you went soft in the head?”
“Or are your eyes in your pants? You’d even take a second look at this old tree bark, reeking of demonic evil? Talk about beggars can’t be choosers!”
With that said, Yan Zixiao formed a hand seal for his Sword Technique.
The broad, heavy sword on his back let out a clear dragon’s cry.
Wreathed in crimson pure-yang flames, it transformed into a fiery rainbow and shot straight for the Tree Demon Granny in mid-air.
“Old Witch, die!”
The Tree Demon Granny floated in the air, a scornful look on her alluring face as she watched the approaching Flying Sword.
She flicked her long sleeve, and the countless dancing vines in the air formed a shield, blocking the Flying Sword. At the same time, she taunted in a shrill voice:
“Yan Zixiao, what right do you have to lecture me?”
“Years ago, for the sake of a Fox Demon, you didn’t hesitate to betray your sect. You even colluded with evil demons and heretics, getting yourself expelled from the Ten Thousand Swords Sect.
What? And now you’re playing the part of a righteous hero, slaying demons and devils? How utterly laughable!”
Hearing this, Yan Zixiao’s expression turned icy cold.
His Sword Technique shifted, and the light from the crimson rainbow heavy sword flared, viciously chopping down on the vine shield and sending splinters flying.
“Shut up, Old Witch!”
He roared in rebuttal,
“I, Yan Zixiao, have always acted with a clear conscience!
Unlike you, you old demon! Your sister ignored the clan rules and fell in love with a mortal from the Demon-slaying Bureau. She betrayed the Demon Race for so-called ‘true love,’ and what was the result? She ended up being slain!
You, her older sister, were implicated and got spat on and exiled by the Demon Race, forced to hide in these desolate mountains like a lonely ghost!
What right do you have to stand here spouting such nonsense?”
“You’re courting death!”
His words had clearly struck a nerve with the Granny.
Her gorgeous face immediately twisted, and her eyes turned blood-red.
Her once-silky long hair transformed into thousands of sharp vines, shooting toward Yan Zixiao like a torrential downpour.
“Then let’s see who dies first!”
Yan Zixiao showed no weakness, bringing his heavy sword back to defend. He whirled it so fast it formed an impenetrable barrier.
The two traded blows, locked in a fierce and inseparable struggle.
Jiang Mu squatted in a corner, watching with great relish as the human and the demon passionately traded insults while fighting a battle that shook heaven and earth.
Suddenly, Ji Hongyuan’s lazy voice echoed softly in his ear:
“Little one, don’t just watch the show. This Tree Demon… something isn’t right about it.”
“Not right?”
Jiang Mu paused, squinting to carefully examine the Tree Demon Granny in the air. “What’s not right?” he asked in a low voice. “This Demon looks pretty fierce to me.”
Ji Hongyuan chuckled softly.
“Fierce, yes, but this is only a Clone.”
“A Clone?!”
Jiang Mu’s heart jumped. He sucked in a cold breath.
‘A mere Clone can trade blows evenly with a master like Yan Zixiao, who’s close to the Fifth Realm, and even seem to have the upper hand? Then how strong must her real body be? Tier Six? Tier Seven?’
‘The Demon-slaying Bureau’s intelligence is totally unreliable!’
‘What happened to the report saying it was an early Tier Five?’
‘Which millennium-old demon did they freaking miscalculate here?’
“Don’t be anxious.”
Ji Hongyuan seemed to sense Jiang Mu’s worry and said nonchalantly,
“This Clone carries a dense Corpse Qi, and its aura is unstable.
The way I see it, the Tree Demon’s main body has likely suffered a severe cultivation injury, or it’s undergoing some kind of dangerous transformation. It has to use this Clone to gather vital essence, or even use Corpse Qi to heal itself.
Her situation is somewhat similar to my own. But she’s probably worse off than me; her real body might not be that much stronger.”
A glint flashed in Jiang Mu’s eyes.
‘So it’s a weakened boss!’
‘If a Great Demon of this caliber were allowed to recover her strength, she would become an endless source of trouble.’
‘This is the perfect time to kick her while she’s down!’
“Can we find her main body’s location through this Clone?” Jiang Mu asked.
“No.”
Ji Hongyuan bluntly poured cold water on the idea.
“Right now, I’m like a clay Bodhisattva crossing a river—I can barely save myself. How would I have the ability to locate her from a distance? Figure it out yourself.”
Jiang Mu: “…”
Just as the two were communicating in secret, the battle suddenly took a sharp turn.
Unable to break through her defenses, Yan Zixiao finally grew truly enraged.
With a furious roar, he bit the tip of his tongue and spat a mouthful of Essence Blood onto his heavy sword.
“Limitless Heaven and Earth, grant me your power!”
“Sever!”
Yan Zixiao suddenly let out an explosive shout, his hands slamming together.
The greatsword trembled violently in the air as golden runes materialized on its body, erupting in a brilliant light.
The Sword Aura crashed down with immense power.
The Tree Demon Granny’s face fell. Countless roots surged madly upwards, only to be torn apart like paper under the terrifying sword light.
“AHHH!!”
Amidst a bloodcurdling scream, the Tree Demon Granny was struck by the Sword Qi. Half of her body was nearly sheared off, and dark green sap sprayed violently from the wound.
A cold glint flashed in Yan Zixiao’s eyes as he prepared to deliver the final blow.
But just then—
The Tree Demon Granny suddenly threw her arms wide, her entire being transforming into a massive, ancient tree. Its trunk was as thick as a pillar, its canopy blotted out the sky, and countless roots spread madly like living things!
“You want to kill me? Then we’ll die together!”
The roots instantly surged toward Yan Zixiao, wrapping him in layer after layer!
Yan Zixiao roared, and the Sword Qi erupting from his body snapped the encircling roots one by one.
But the roots seemed endless.
As soon as one batch was broken, more would immediately surge forward.
“BREAK!!”
Yan Zixiao grabbed a thick root with both hands and, with a sudden exertion of force, actually ripped it out from its base.
At that exact moment, with a sudden BANG—
The Tree Demon Granny’s Clone exploded.
Amidst the rain of wood splinters and sap, a crimson light shot out, striking Yan Zixiao directly.
It was a blood seal the size of a palm.
It was now stuck to his chest, emitting a magnificent red light.
