Chapter 133: Willow Kane Witnesses
Chloe York slept in and had just gotten up when she received a call from Nora.
"Hello, Nora!"
"Chloe, come out and play with me!" Nora’s sweet voice came through the phone.
"Sure!" Hearing Nora’s sweet voice, Chloe felt her mood brighten considerably.
They agreed on a place, and Chloe hung up to get ready.
Once she was ready, she headed out. The reporters who had been staking out her place were gone now.
When she arrived at the place she’d agreed to meet Nora, both Nora and Adrian Kane were there.
She wasn’t surprised to see Adrian Kane. ’Nora must be staying with him now,’ she figured.
"Chloe! My uncle told me you scored a 749 and were the top scorer on the college entrance exams. That’s amazing! I’ve decided, from now on, you’re my idol! I’m going to be just like you. When it’s my turn to take the exams, I’ll be the top scorer too, just like you!" Nora gushed the moment she saw Chloe.
"Alright, then you work hard. When the time comes, if you don’t understand something, you can ask me. If I still remember any of this stuff by then, I’ll tutor you."
"Okay! I’ll definitely ask you to tutor me, Chloe!"
"You’re only in kindergarten. It’s too early to be talking about this. Besides, it’s not even certain you’ll get into high school."
Adrian Kane casually rained on her parade.
"Uncle, how could you say that about me? I’m very smart! I’m mad now. Hmph! I’m not forgiving you."
Nora put her hands on her hips, glaring at Adrian Kane with puffed-out cheeks.
"Alright, Princess Nora, I was wrong. You’ll definitely get into high school and then, just like Chloe, get into a great university. And a person who can get into high school and a great university certainly wouldn’t get angry so easily. They’d be very quick to forgive others, right?" Adrian Kane quickly tried to placate her, deliberately sweet-talking her.
Sure enough, hearing Adrian Kane’s words, Nora immediately put her hands down. "Seeing as you’ve admitted you were wrong, I’ll forgive you. I will definitely get into high school and then, just like Chloe, become the top scorer and have all the universities fighting over me."
"Chloe, which university are you planning to attend?"
As soon as Adrian Kane said it, he felt a little nervous and a bit regretful. ’Why did I suddenly ask that?!’
He knew Chloe didn’t like him, that she kept her distance. If it weren’t for Nora, he wouldn’t have even been able to get her to come out today.
"Southbend University." She had already called Southbend University today and decided to enroll there.
He hadn’t expected Chloe to tell him which school she chose. A wave of pleasant surprise washed over him, but then he thought, ’Isn’t that school a bit too far away?’
Of course, Adrian Kane understood why Chloe chose this school—it was a way to get away from here. But Southbend University... it really was a bit far.
"Isn’t Southbend University a little far?" Adrian Kane couldn’t help but ask.
"It’s fine."
Since Chloe had said as much, Adrian couldn’t press the issue and simply kept quiet.
They played with Nora until the afternoon, at which point Chloe decided to head home.
"Chloe, can we play together again tomorrow?" Nora asked Chloe from inside the car.
"Nora, we’ve already played all day today, and Chloe has been with you the whole time. Don’t you think you should let her get some rest?"
Before Chloe could even refuse, Adrian Kane had already declined for her.
Chloe did, in fact, have plans for tomorrow. She wanted to look up some interesting places to visit and start packing her things.
Then she also had to make a trip near Southbend University to rent an apartment and move.
"Okay..." Nora was a little disappointed, but her smile quickly returned. "Then, Chloe, let’s promise to play together again next time we have a chance."
"Deal!" Chloe waved and went upstairs.
After watching Chloe go upstairs, Adrian Kane turned and was about to get in the car when he saw Willow Kane across the street.
Back home, Chloe York took a shower and then started using her phone to look up information about Southbend University, as well as fun things to do in the surrounding area.
She wasn’t planning on traveling too far, partly because she felt it wasn’t safe, and partly because she wanted to familiarize herself with the area around Southbend University.
「Coffee Shop.」
"So that’s why. No wonder someone’s been so eager to help me babysit lately. Turns out you’re just using my kid to pick up girls!" Willow Kane took off her sunglasses, looking at Adrian Kane teasingly.
Adrian Kane didn’t say anything, just quietly lowered his head and stirred his coffee.
"Mommy, what does ’using your kid to pick up girls’ mean?" Nora asked innocently.
"There’s a child present. Watch your mouth!" Adrian Kane stopped what he was doing and looked at Willow Kane.
Willow Kane nodded, amused. "My bad."
"Nora, look, there’s a small playground over there. Want to go play?" Willow Kane lowered her head and asked Nora gently.
Hearing she could go play at the little playground, Nora’s eyes lit up. "Okay~"
Willow Kane beckoned, and two bodyguards immediately took Nora out to play at the small playground outside.
"Now that the kid’s gone, you can talk. So, spill it!" Willow Kane crossed her arms, signaling for Adrian Kane to come clean.
"Spill what?" Adrian Kane suddenly started playing dumb.
"Are you playing dumb with me?"
Adrian Kane didn’t answer, lowering his head and continuing to stir his coffee.
"Fine, have it your way. I’m telling you, if you don’t talk, I won’t let you have Nora anymore. I can tell that girl really likes Nora."
"She saved me that day."
The moment he said that, Willow Kane immediately sat up straight, her face tense. "You mean... that night?"
Adrian Kane nodded. "Yes."
"She’s just a student. How could she be so bold?" Willow Kane was shocked.
She had assumed the person who saved Adrian Kane that night was a man around thirty, someone who would be braver and more level-headed. She never expected it to be a teenage girl.
"I know, right? That night, I never imagined I’d be saved by a high school girl."
Adrian Kane himself could hardly believe it, but that was the truth.
"Well, she’s certainly quite a girl then. Brave, and she’s the top scorer on the college entrance exams, right? Oh! And that person who got famous for saving a child a while back—that was her too, wasn’t it?" Willow Kane was getting excited. ’For my brother to marry a girl like that would be absolutely fantastic.’
"Yes, that was her too." Adrian Kane nodded. Chloe York’s reputation was impeccable.
"Wow, this girl is a real catch. Little brother, if you two get together, I’ll support it with everything I’ve got. But... aren’t you a little old for her? She’s just a girl who graduated high school, and you’re about to be a college senior."
As she spoke, Willow Kane gave her brother a look of mock disdain. ’It’s like the girl is still in middle school while he’s already in high school... no, about to start high school. If this isn’t robbing the cradle, what is?’
Adrian Kane felt helpless. How was he supposed to tell his sister that Chloe didn’t like him at all, and in fact, seemed to actively despise him?
