Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable

Chapter 116: Strange Brooke York and Alice Cole

The bus ride lasted about an hour before it stopped at the school that would serve as their exam site.

"Alright, everyone, take a look. This school is your exam site for tomorrow and the day after. As for your classrooms and seat numbers, you can find them using the sheets I handed out in class. Get familiar with the layout now so you don’t get lost and run late for your test."

"Understood, sir!" the students replied in unison before entering the school to find their designated exam rooms and seats.

"Chloe, our exam rooms are so close! See? You’re in 16, and I’m in 18." It was only then that Stella Winters remembered to check her room assignment. She was shocked to discover how close she and Chloe were.

"Yeah, looks like we’re pretty close," Chloe York said with a sigh of resignation. ’I saw it the moment we got our assignments, but of course, this scatterbrain Stella didn’t even look.’

The two of them strolled through the campus, where students were walking in groups to find their assigned rooms.

Soon, Chloe York found her exam room, and Stella Winters found hers as well.

After finding their exam rooms and pinpointing their seats, everyone returned to the bus.

"Has everyone confirmed their classroom and seat number? Anyone have trouble finding theirs?" Mr. Parker asked.

"We’ve all found them," the students replied in unison.

"Alright, good. Make sure you remember which room you’re in and how to get there. Don’t forget, and don’t show up at the wrong exam room tomorrow."

"We won’t, sir."

"Alright, then let’s head back."

On the way back, the students weren’t as excited as they had been on the trip over. The reality of the impending college entrance exams had sunk in. For all intents and purposes, their high school careers were drawing to a close.

Students from other classes were also trickling in to find their own exam rooms and seats.

Once all the preparations were finished, the school day came to an end. Everyone packed their things, ready to go home and get a good night’s rest before the exams began tomorrow.

"When you get home tonight, pack your bags for tomorrow. Before you leave in the morning, you must double-check that you have your admission ticket, your ID, your pens—everything you’re supposed to bring. Check, check, and check again. Do you understand?" Mr. Parker admonished them one last time.

"Understood, sir!"

"Alright, head home. Everyone get a good night’s sleep. Try not to stay up all night, or you’ll be dozing off during the test tomorrow."

"Okay!"

Perhaps because it was their last day listening to his instructions, the students were especially cooperative. Every time Mr. Parker said something, they would respond in unison.

Chloe York had also packed her things and was ready to go home.

"See you tomorrow, Chloe!" Stella Winters said with a wave.

"See you tomorrow!" Chloe York waved back.

She shouldered her backpack, left the classroom, and walked slowly toward the school gate.

’Compared to the school from her past life, she’d been at this one for less than half a year, but it seemed she’d grown attached to it anyway.’

As she neared the school gate, she was surprised to see Alice Cole there again.

’Why is Alice Cole here? And today, she doesn’t have that usual imperious air about her. She actually seems... kind. In fact, right now she’s looking at me with such an amiable smile.’

Just then, Brooke York’s voice rang out from behind her. "Chloe, I’ve been talking to Mom. No matter what, you’re still the daughter she raised. You spent so many years together as mother and daughter, so you can’t act like enemies. I hope you can forgive Mom today. Can’t we all just try to get along?"

As she spoke, Brooke York suddenly grabbed Chloe York’s hand and pulled her in front of Alice Cole.

Brooke York shot Alice Cole a meaningful look. Alice immediately grabbed Chloe York’s other hand, her voice thick with remorse. "Oh, Chloe, I was so wrong in the past. Like you said, it was my fault that you and Brooke were switched. But no matter what, we lived as mother and daughter for more than a decade. Can you forgive me?"

Alice Cole gazed at Chloe York, her eyes full of expectation, hoping for forgiveness.

’Of all the times to show up, they pick now. And the last time we met, she was her usual self—vicious and condescending toward me.’

’Do they really take me for an idiot? Can’t I see what game they’re playing?’

"Alright. I forgive you."

The moment Chloe said she forgave them, Alice Cole and Brooke York exchanged an imperceptible glance.

Chloe didn’t miss the subtle exchange. ’Looks like they’re finally about to make their move,’ she thought.

"In that case, Chloe, will you come home with us tonight?"

"Go home with you?"

"Yes, Chloe. Don’t worry, we genuinely regret everything. We would never do anything to hurt you on purpose. Please, believe us, okay?"

"Chloe, you know how much your dad wants you to get into a good university. It’s a matter of pride for him. So we wanted to bring you home today, to make him a little happier. Because of... well, after some of the mistakes Brooke made, your dad..."

Alice Cole didn’t finish, but her meaning was clear: they were bringing Chloe York home to get back into Miles York’s good graces. "Anyway, Chloe, you don’t have to worry about us doing anything that might affect your exams tomorrow. Your dad would never allow it, and he’s at home right now!"

"That’s right, Dad is home too, so you don’t have to worry, Chloe," Brooke York added, bringing up Miles York as leverage. After all, a man hoping she would become the top scorer in the college entrance exams wouldn’t possibly allow his wife and daughter to pull any stunts.

"Alright, I’ll go home with you."

Hearing Chloe York relent, Brooke York and Alice Cole shared a subtle smile. ’She’s still just as foolish as ever,’ they thought. ’It only took a few sentences to dupe her.’

"That’s wonderful, Chloe! Dad will be so happy to see you’re back home."

"Yes, ever since you moved out, Chloe, your dad has been missing you terribly."

"But I need to go back and get my toiletries and other things first."

"Don’t worry about it, we have everything at home!" Brooke York, afraid of letting any complications arise, didn’t want Chloe to go back. She shot a look at Alice Cole, who immediately caught on. "That’s right, Chloe. After you moved out, I went and restocked everything. Your room is just the way you left it; nothing has changed a bit!"

"I still need to go back. My books and everything are at my apartment, and I need to study tonight. If I can’t go back to get them, then I’m not going," Chloe said, making a move to head back to her place.

Brooke York quickly pulled her back. "Alright, alright, let’s go get them!"

"You two can just wait here for me. I’ll grab my things and be right back."

"It’s no trouble, we’ll go with you," Brooke York insisted, wanting to tag along.

Chloe eyed them suspiciously. "What, are you afraid I’m going to run off? Is that why you want to keep an eye on me?"
