Three Systems Made the Fake Heiress Unstoppable

Chapter 211: Angry Brooke York

“What did you say? You have company shares? Why didn’t I know about this? Since when?” Sure enough, the moment Chloe York said this, Brooke York grew frantic.

Since when did Chloe have shares in the company? She hadn’t heard a single thing about it. Did Miles York and Alice Cole give them to her behind her back? Just as she suspected, she was the true outsider here. However, Alice Cole’s next words proved she was just as clueless.

“She’s right, Miles. Why didn’t even I know about this? When did Chloe get shares?”

Alice never imagined Chloe would actually hold company shares. She hadn’t caught so much as a whisper of it. How many things was Miles doing behind her back?

Listening to their interrogating tones, Miles grew impatient. “Both of you, go back upstairs right now.”

These two were more of a hindrance than a help. Was this really the time to discuss this? He finally understood the saying: a brilliant enemy was less fearsome than an idiotic teammate.

“You still haven’t told me why she has shares!” Brooke yelled. “Did you give them to her? Why would you do that?”

“I told you to go upstairs!” Miles roared right back at them.

“Dad, you’re so unfair! You gave shares to Chloe but refused to give any to me. Who is your actual biological daughter here? How could you do this?” Brooke looked deeply hurt. She really hadn’t seen this coming—Miles had secretly given Chloe shares behind their backs.

All this time, she had been fighting so fiercely against Chloe, making herself look like an absolute joke. Chloe already had shares; she didn’t even care to fight back. And what did Brooke have? Nothing. She was just acting like a clown, parading around and picking fights for no reason.

“I will say this one last time. Go upstairs. Now,” Miles warned.

Brooke refused to budge, but Alice could tell Miles was genuinely furious and dragged her daughter away. Once they were gone, the atmosphere grew a bit awkward for Miles.

“Oh my, I am so sorry, Mr. York. It seems I misspoke,” Chloe said, standing up as if to leave. “Perhaps I should go and let you handle your family matters.”

“Don’t go, Chloe. You know how those two are. Please don’t take it to heart,” Miles said hastily.

“I don’t really mind. However, Mr. York, I do want to point out that your daughter’s way of speaking is incredibly unpleasant. She requires stricter discipline.

“After all, she’s living here now, and everyone knows she is your daughter. If she doesn’t fix this nasty habit of running her mouth and speaks to others the same way, people are going to form a rather poor impression of you, Mr. York.

“And if they have a bad impression of you, they’ll have a bad impression of the York Group. That will impact the company’s stock prices and affect our business partnerships—which, naturally, affects my money. So, as a shareholder, I am sincerely advising you to properly discipline your daughter. Can you do that?”

Chloe’s words made Miles blush with shame. Before this, Chloe had been his daughter too, and he used to always think she was the ignorant and unruly one. When Brooke first returned to the family, he had been quite happy because she seemed like such a well-bred, gentle girl. Yet now, it was Chloe who displayed impeccable manners, while his actual daughter, Brooke, was the rude and ignorant one.

Did whoever hold the title of his daughter automatically become unruly?

“I understand, I understand. Rest assured, Chloe, I will definitely discipline Brooke. I’ll make sure she speaks more pleasantly in the future and stops running her mouth without a filter like she did today. You have my word.”

Chloe nodded, seemingly satisfied. “That’s fine, then. I’ve intruded on your family long enough today. It’s time for me to head back.”

“I’ll see you out,” Miles said, hurriedly standing up to escort her to the door.

“Mom, what are we going to do? Chloe actually owns twenty percent of the company’s shares! Dad gave them to her and didn’t give me a single one!” Back upstairs, Brooke was boiling with rage just thinking about it.

The anger was a hard lump in her chest that she just couldn’t swallow. Why? On what grounds did Chloe get those shares? Chloe was a nobody! Brooke was the true heiress of the York Family. Yet, she had nothing, while Chloe had everything. If others found out about this, she would be humiliated beyond belief.

“Brooke, stop being angry. Calm down,” Alice said. Compared to her daughter’s frantic state, she appeared much more composed. It wasn’t that she wasn’t furious; rather, she had been thinking on their way upstairs. Getting angry now was useless. The shares had already been given away. What they needed to do was get them back. At the very least, they needed to secure their own shares—and ideally, more than what Chloe had.

“How am I supposed to calm down?! If he’s giving her shares now, does that mean he’s going to hand the entire company over to her in the future?” Just the thought of that possibility made Brooke feel like she was going insane. If the company really ended up in Chloe’s hands, she would absolutely lose her mind.

“That’s impossible. I still have shares in the company!” Alice retorted. She knew that if Miles wanted to hand the company over to Chloe, he would need her approval, as she was a major shareholder. Still, it baffled her that Miles had managed to transfer shares to Chloe without even calling a shareholder’s meeting. That was why she had never suspected he would secretly do such a thing.

The shares he gave away had to be his own. The company didn’t have many shareholders; Miles held the most, followed closely by her.

Seeing Alice deep in thought, an idea sparked in Brooke’s mind. She quickly sat down next to her mother.

“That’s right! Mom, you have shares too. If Dad can give shares to Chloe, can you give some to me?” Brooke realized this was her chance and immediately set her sights on her mother’s shares.

Since her dad gave his shares to Chloe, her mom should give some to her. It was only fair. Why should she be left empty-handed? If she held company shares too, it would be impossible for Chloe to ever become the CEO of the York Group. Chloe might even need her approval to do anything. Or better yet, Brooke could take the position herself, leaving Chloe in the dust.

“Silly girl, of course I can. What’s mine is yours. I can even give you all of my shares in the end.”

“Really, Mom? You can really give me all your shares? How many do you have?”

“I have forty percent.”

“What about Dad?” Brooke asked urgently. She was terrified that Miles had more shares than Alice. If that were the case, and Miles gave all his shares to Chloe, how could she ever compete? Would Chloe end up as the largest shareholder of the York Group in the future? Would Brooke have to work under her? But Brooke was the true heiress and master of the York Family!

“He had the exact same amount as me. The other shareholders hold five percent each. However, your dad doesn’t have that much anymore, seeing as he gave half of his shares to Chloe.”

“That works, that works!”

“Brooke, you have nothing to worry about. As long as I’m here, it is impossible for Chloe to ever become the CEO of the York Group.”

“Mhm!”
