Chapter 154 - 153: All Height, No Brains
Meanwhile, at Grant Manor.
Leo Grant stared at the affirmative reply from his girlfriend and couldn’t help but break into a wide, goofy grin. ’She agreed!’ he thought gleefully. ’Heh heh.’
"Laugh, laugh, laugh! You still have the nerve to be grinning like that?! The Lowell Family lives right next door—it’s a half-hour walk! Instead of wasting time on your phone, you should be over there getting some face time, trying to win over the Lowell men! I swear, the reason you can’t get a wife is because you’re always glued to that phone!"
Old Master Grant fumed as he watched the brat grinning foolishly on the couch.
He had no idea what the Lowell girl saw in this brat. Even he, the boy’s own grandfather, couldn’t help but feel a sense of disdain.
The boy was all brawn and no brains. No, that wasn’t right. He’d dedicated what little brainpower he possessed entirely to making money. An absolute blockhead!
The Grant Family was massive and wealthy; as if they needed the chump change he earned!
At this rate, he didn’t know when he’d ever get to drink tea from his granddaughter-in-law at the wedding ceremony.
Leo Grant pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling helpless. "Grandpa, even if I were going to get some face time, it shouldn’t be today. Didn’t we already agree we’d go over tomorrow morning for the New Year’s visit?"
’If I dared to go over now,’ he thought, ’I’m afraid our entire family wouldn’t even make it through the Lowells’ door tomorrow.’
"Why can’t you go today? The official New Year’s visit and you going over alone to make an impression are two different things. I see what it is—you’re just scared!" Old Master Grant shot him a scornful look.
This grandson of his hadn’t learned even a tenth of his ways. Back in his day, he’d fallen for Vesper at first sight, knew she was the one for life, and married her in less than a month.
They had lived in blissful harmony for the better part of their lives. Everyone praised him for marrying such a wonderful wife. Anyone who saw them together would call them a match made in heaven.
But his Vesper... She was perfect in every way, kind to everyone... she was only cruel to him, leaving him all alone so early.
As he recalled his late wife, a look of longing and grief flashed in Old Master Grant’s eyes, and his once-straight back seemed to slump a little.
Seeing this, Leo Grant knew his grandfather was thinking of his grandmother, so he stopped arguing. "You’re right. I’d be scared to go without you there to back me up."
"Hmph, I knew it. What good are you? Fine, fine, go tomorrow then." Old Master Grant shot him a glare and got up to sneak a snack from the kitchen.
Leo Grant smiled without a word and, looking down at his phone, published the post he had just finished editing.
[Gu: The wait is over. [Image]]
The account was brand new, but the ’CEO of Grant Group’ verification appeared almost instantly.
The photo showed a beauty in a qipao, her hand raised to pinch the man’s cheek. The man’s hand rested on the girl’s waist, his eyes filled with love and adoration.
The photo had been taken by Nina Jennings at Adrian Lowell’s coming-of-age party—before the two of them had a fight.
Meanwhile, Silas Lynch, who was stuck working overtime on New Year’s, was miserably refreshing his boss’s profile page.
The moment Leo posted, Silas immediately used the official account to retweet, like, and comment, and then happily clocked out for the day!
[Grant Group V: Congrats to the boss! After fifteen years of waiting faithfully, your wish has finally come true and you’ve won the fair lady! [Confetti][Confetti][Confetti]
We’re also drawing 150 lucky winners to receive 10,000 yuan each! [Retweet to enter]]
Leo Grant was just about to put Silas Lynch to work when he saw the update from the official account.
With the retweet from the Grant Group’s official account, his new profile started blowing up, and his phone’s notification alerts wouldn’t stop buzzing.
But when Leo Grant read the caption Silas had written, his face darkened.
’The efficiency was incredible. The caption was pure drama. And Silas was asking for it.’
’And what was with these comments? Had everyone turned on him? Weren’t they all shipping the two of them during that reality show?!’
[WTF?! Is this an official announcement?! No way, are you two for real?!]
[Gotta be honest, I’m suddenly not that excited about winning this prize anymore.]
[Shipping you is one thing, but we didn’t say you could actually start DATING!!]
[So you’re the guy named Leo Grant, right? The grudge for stealing my wife is irreconcilable!]
[Our girl is so beautiful. The guy... eh, whatever.]
[Hurry up and say you’re just faking it for the cameras! Say it!! @Pluto Consortium V]
[To be fair... they’re actually a great match. What’s wrong with you people?]
[We all know that! We’re just here to back our girl up and put the husband in his place! Gotta let him know that we’re her family too!]
[Right? Right? Quick, everyone, look! We’ve got a normie over here!!]
Leo Grant found the comments both infuriating and hilarious as his fingers tapped on the screen.
[Our precious cabbage got snatched by a pig just like that? Girl, you’re being foolish! You should’ve made him wait way longer! @Pluto Consortium V]
[Gu: My girlfriend is not foolish.]
[Okay, okay, fine. It’s New Year’s and here I am, crying into my pork trotter rice again.]
[Gu: I DMed you some money. Go eat something nice, on me and my girlfriend.]
[Hurry up and post an apology! Say you were spreading rumors! Post it!!]
[Gu: Sorry, can’t post that statement. My girlfriend says people shouldn’t lie.]
After replying to a few comments, Leo Grant went to go tattle.
’A mature man would never fall into the trap of having to justify himself. He wasn’t a three-year-old, after all.’
The Leo Grant from one second prior seemed to look at his current self and ask, ’Hey buddy, are you calling me childish?’
...
"Dinner’s ready!!" Yancy Lowell’s voice came from the dining room.
The words had barely left his mouth when a scene reminiscent of a mad dash for food in a school cafeteria reenacted itself in Lowell Manor.
Yvonne Lowell walked arm-in-arm with Grandpa Lowell, bringing up the rear. Grandpa Lowell pursed his lips in disdain. "Every last one of them looks like they haven’t had a full meal in three years. Anyone who didn’t know better would think our family rations their food."
A teasing smile flashed in Yvonne Lowell’s eyes. "Well, no one dares to start eating until you take your seat, so what does it matter? Let them run."
’And who was it just now, staring greedily at the kitchen? If he wasn’t too old to walk fast, he’d probably be the first one in the stampede, right?’
Grandma Lowell came out of the kitchen with a dish, stopping the few who were about to go in and help carry out the food.
"Everyone sit down. We don’t need your help in the kitchen, so don’t go in there and make a mess. We’re having dinner a little early tonight; we’ll make dumplings later."
"Woohoo! These are some serious dishes!! Grandma is awesome! Mom is awesome! Youngest Aunt is awesome! And number three... whatever!" Harrison Lowell started hooting as he praised the chefs.
Yancy Lowell sat down calmly, not even sparing him a glance. "I’d rather not speak to you, but here at the manor, I’m number four."
Harrison Lowell’s face twisted for a moment. ’That’s right, here at the manor, he himself was number three... Crap! Did he just insult himself?!’
"Alright, everyone be seated." Grandpa Lowell sat at the head of the table, his eyes filled with gratification as he looked around at the large group.
"After so many years, our family is finally reunited. Not only has Nola returned, but our family has also gained two more wonderful, outstanding children. In this new year, I hope all of you will continue to work hard and never forget your original aspirations."
"Yes, Dad/Grandpa," everyone said in unison.
Grandma Lowell, who was sitting beside him, couldn’t help but tease, "My, what a grand display. Should I also say, ’Yes, old man’?"
Grandpa Lowell’s expression turned awkward for a second before he looked at the younger generation. "The Family Head is getting jealous. Hurry up and say it to her too."
Suppressing their laughter, the group once again said in unison, "Yes, Mom/Grandma."
