Chapter 140 - 139: If You Want to Show Off, Just Say It
As they neared the company, Silas Lynch spoke up again, testing the waters. "Sir, is Miss Lowell back?"
"Mm, she got back last night. Do you need something from her?"
"No, no, I was just asking."
’I knew it,’ Silas Lynch thought, letting out a huge sigh of relief. ’My boss has an aversion to women. How could he ever do anything to wrong Miss Lowell?’
So the tooth mark on his chin must have come from Miss Lowell. Otherwise, there was only one other explanation—his boss was gay.
But the chances of that were even slimmer than the chances of him, Silas Lynch, being the reincarnation of some charming, ancient ancestor.
"Sir, there are new masks in the car. Would you like to wear one?"
Leo Grant raised an eyebrow, replying nonchalantly, "No need. I don’t have a cold. Why would I wear a mask?"
"But with your chin like that... isn’t it a bit much?" Silas asked meekly.
Leo Grant was so amused he was almost angry. ’So, this kid just asked that because he thought I cheated on Yvonne Lowell?! Am I that kind of person?!’
Leo Grant raised a hand to stroke the tooth marks on his chin and smiled enigmatically. "It’s nothing. Yvonne was just playing around. It’ll probably be gone by this evening."
Silas Lynch sulkily shut his mouth, thinking to himself: ’Gone by this evening? He’s got to be kidding. That bite must be from last night, right? It hasn’t faded one bit overnight. If you want to show off, just be direct about it. It’s not shameful, just really, really annoying...’
Upon entering the company, the receptionist, Ms. Li, with her eagle eyes, immediately spotted the tooth mark on her big boss’s chin.
Her mind instantly spun up a million words of fanfiction about him and Miss Lowell. At the same time, she didn’t forget to bow and offer a greeting.
"Good morning, President Grant. Good morning, Special Assistant Lynch."
Leo Grant slowed his pace, turning his head to give a slight nod, positioning the tooth mark to face the receptionist perfectly.
"Mm, if my girlfriend comes, just let her go straight up."
"Of course, President Grant," Ms. Li replied before she could even think.
After saying his piece, Leo Grant strode quickly toward the elevator.
Silas covered his face with one hand. ’An old man experiencing the rush of first love... it’s just too cringe to watch...’
’If Miss Lowell found out about this, she’d probably be rendered speechless.’
At first, Ms. Li was just stunned. ’President Grant... actually spoke to me? But I’m a woman! And isn’t Miss Lowell always allowed to go straight up anyway?’
It took her a moment to process, but then she realized there was a hidden meaning behind his words. Was he... showing off his mark of love to her?!
With a look of sudden realization, Ms. Li quickly pulled out her phone to report to the troops.
[Receptionist Li: Don’t say I never look out for you guys. If you have work to report, today’s the day. The big boss seems to be in a surprisingly good mood.]
[HR-is-a-Drag: Thank goodness the drama of this mortal realm has nothing to do with me. I don’t have to report to him.]
[IT Dept’s Sole Beauty: For real? The Living Yama can actually be in a good mood? (Besides when Miss Lowell visits, of course.)]
[Did-You-Code-Today?: I know, right? I finished a new game last week, but he’s been such a black cloud lately I was planning on waiting a few more days to bring it up.]
[Receptionist Li: I swear on my life, I’m not lying. He even talked to me today, even if it was just to flaunt his relationship. I’ve been here three years, and this is a first!]
[Receptionist Li: I guess Miss Lowell must have cheered him up. Anyway, he looked like he was walking on air. The usual dark aura was completely gone.]
[Secretariat’s Mr. Handsome: Omo, Li, you’re holding out on us! You didn’t mention the tooth mark on the boss’s chin.]
[PR’s Wordsmith: What mark? A what mark? A tooth mark WHERE?!]
[Receptionist Li: I was just about to, but you beat me to it. Got it? [smiling emoji] @Secretariat’s Mr. Handsome]
[Secretariat’s Mr. Handsome: Alright, my bad.]
[IT Dept’s Sole Beauty: Girl, spill the details!]
[HR-is-a-Drag: All ears.]
[Did-You-Code-Today?: Just one? Fine, I’ll put one down, too.]
[PR’s Wordsmith: You guys can have fun listening. This bro’s heading to the morning meeting. I’m gonna go see it with my own two eyes.]
Throughout the morning meeting, everyone kept sneaking glances at Leo Grant, because that tooth mark was impossible to miss.
But it had to be said—their big boss was being incredibly pleasant and agreeable today!
After all, just yesterday he’d been snapping, "Idiot!"
"What’s the point of having you?!"
"Did you leave your brain at home?!"
"If I scattered some rice on a keyboard and let a chicken peck at it, the proposal it came up with would be better than what you wrote."
He hadn’t praised them today, but at least he wasn’t cursing them out!
SOB SOB SOB! Miss Lowell was the collective human life-preserver for all the employees of the Grant Corporation!
After everyone had finished their reports and was awaiting his judgment...
...Leo Grant said, completely out of the blue, "My girlfriend is young, so she can be a bit naughty sometimes. Meeting adjourned."
With that, he walked out of the conference room, leaving everyone to let out a collective, heavy sigh of relief.
Employee A: Was he just flaunting his relationship?
Employee B: No, he was criticizing himself for being a cradle-robber. [forced professional smile]
...
Yvonne Lowell was completely unaware of the events unfolding at the Grant Corporation.
’Her little family of three was in the middle of a meal. Mom’s braised pork ribs smelled absolutely divine.’
’Oh, and there’s a little baby bird next to me, chirping to be fed.’
’Huh? You’re asking where my brothers went? What brothers? I don’t have any brothers.’
’I have no idea. Haven’t we always been a family of three? My parents told me I was an only child, you know.’
’You couldn’t possibly be talking about that workaholic, that venom-tongued jerk, and that math nerd, could you?’
’My dad said they’re just boarders. They don’t love this home, so they don’t count.’
Wendy Sutton placed a piece of pork rib in Yvonne Lowell’s bowl. "Next month, on the tenth, is Genevieve’s eighteenth birthday. We’ll be going back to the ancestral home to throw a coming-of-age party for him. Remember to prepare a gift for him, too."
"What are you and Dad planning to get him?" Yvonne Lowell asked after taking a bite of rice.
Wendy Sutton shot her a look. "We’re getting him a large condo near the university. Why? Were you planning on copying our idea?"
"Not at all. I just wanted to see what you two were getting so we don’t end up giving him the same thing," Yvonne Lowell said with an innocent shrug.
Charles Lowell pursed his lips. "Even if you got him the same thing, that kid would only praise you. As long as it’s from you, he’d probably worship a rock you picked up off the street and praise it to the heavens."
"You’re just jealous that his big sister holds a higher place in his heart than his own uncle. But I’m not so cruel that I’d actually give him a rock."
’A glint flashed in Yvonne Lowell’s eyes. ’Eighteen, huh...’ An idea of what to get him began to form.’
