Chapter 66—The Gravity Labyrinth.
Chapter 66—The Gravity Labyrinth.
The descent into the Core Basin of Sector 0 was like stepping into the throat of a dying star.
Below the rim of the crater, the sky ceased to exist. In its place churned a vast, subterranean expanse where the laws of physics had been violently dismantled.
Floating islands of fractured obsidian drifted aimlessly through the air, propelled by erratic gravitational tides. Rivers of glowing, violet Void Mana flowed upward instead of downward, defying gravity in thick, sluggish streams that radiated blinding heat and corrosive static.

Ignis took a single step forward, only for his boots to lose traction as his body suddenly floated three feet into the air. "Whoa! What the—" He flailed his arms in panic, his heavy claymore pulling him upside down. "The ground is pushing me away!"
Before Ignis could drift into a passing stream of toxic purple plasma, Kaelen reached out with a single hand. A subtle ripple of dark gravity enveloped Ignis, yanking him back down to the floating rock platform with a sharp thud.
"Control your weight, fool," Kaelen commanded smoothly, his dark coat falling perfectly back into place. "The basin is saturated with broken spatial code. If you let the environment control your mass, you will be atomized within seconds."
"I... I got it," Ignis panted, quickly anchoring his stance.
At the front of the group, Ren stepped forward, his eyes gleaming behind a pair of high-tech tactical visors. Attached to his wrists were dual holographic projectors, displaying real-time schematics of the crater’s energy grid.
He tapped rapid sequences into his wrist-mounted console, sending three silver, insect-like micro-drones buzzing into the abyss ahead.
"Don’t waste your energy trying to fight the gravity manually," Ren said, his voice crisp and analytical. "My telemetry drones are mapping the vector fields. The spatial distortion here isn’t random—it’s oscillating in a precise three-second frequency."
Ren pressed a button on his gauntlet.
BZZZT!
Four metallic pillars, no larger than iron spikes, shot out from his belt and slammed into the four corners of their floating rock platform. Instantly, a pale blue geometric grid flared beneath their feet, creating a localized field of absolute stability.
"Spatial anchor grid activated," Ren reported, tapping his screen. "As long as we stay within the five-meter radius of my anchors, our weight, and mana flow will remain grounded to normal earth standards. But moving between platforms will be the real issue."
"Let me see the readings," Tsubaki said, stepping up beside Ren. His right hand rested lightly on the pommel of his newly evolved katana, his eyes sharp as he scanned the abyssal mist.
Ren projected a 3D hologram of the Core Basin. "Look at this. The energy shouldn’t be concentrating like this. A natural void rupture bleeds energy outwards in an organic sphere. But these streams..." He pointed to glowing violet lines on the map. "They’re being routed along artificial conduits toward the center. It’s like a giant engine."
"An engine?" Lyra asked, stepping beside Kaelen.
Suddenly, Lyra winced, her hand flying to her chest. A sharp, stinging pain shot through her mana core. Around her ankles, the oppressive Void atmosphere began to eat away at her protective aura, turning her golden glow into a flickering whisper.

[SYSTEM DEBUFF!]
Unit ’Lyra’ is suffering from holy suppression!
Divine Mana Recovery: -80%
Status: Core Degradation (Slow)
---
Lyra," Kaelen murmured, his eyes shifting toward her instantly. He reached out, his dark hand wrapping around her waist to support her. "Your light is being smothered by the density of the basin."
"I’m... I’m fine, my lord," Lyra gasped softly, leaning into Kaelen’s chest. "The divine connection to the upper realms is blocked by the crater walls. I can barely draw enough holy mana to keep my barrier active..."
She looked down at her hands, which were trembling slightly. In this place of absolute darkness, her holy magic—the group’s primary shield against raw corruption—was slowly fading out.
Suddenly, a warm, golden light flared faintly on the back of Lyra’s right hand.
A glowing, intricate crest shaped like a twin sun illuminated her skin. A gentle, familiar warmth surged through her veins, flushing out the cold purple static of the void.’Lyra... can you hear me?’A soft, melodic voice echoed inside Lyra’s mind. It was distant, carrying the gentle hum of a sacred cathedral, yet crystal clear.
Lyra’s eyes widened in shock. "Elena?!"
Far above Sector 0, miles away in the safety of the High Citadel, Elena was kneeling before a sacred altar, her hands clasped in deep prayer. Her eyes were glowing with brilliant silver-gold light as she channeled her life force through the twin soul-bond they shared.
’I feel the darkness pressing against you, sister,’ Elena’s voice resonated warmly within Lyra’s mind. "You are too deep for the sky to reach you, but my soul is bound to yours. Take my mana. Let me be your sanctuary from afar.’

[SPECIAL EVENT ACTIVATED!]
Twin Soul Resonance: Elena -> Lyra!

A radiant beam of golden light burst from Lyra’s body, sweeping away the toxic purple mist around them in a twenty-meter radius. Her armor shone with renewed, dazzling brilliance, far stronger than before.
Lyra breathed in deeply, feeling the overwhelming tide of holy power coursing through her. She touched the glowing crest on her hand and smiled softly. "Thank you, sister..."
She turned back to Kaelen, her eyes bright with unwavering resolve. "My power is restored, Kaelen. The corruption cannot touch us now."
"Good," Kaelen purred softly, his dark fingers lightly stroking her cheek before he turned his attention back to Ren. "Ren. Show us where this ’engine’ leads."
"Right," Ren nodded, his fingers flying across his holographic keyboard as his drones pushed deeper into the ravine. "I’m rerouting drone three toward the lowest energy nexus... Wait."
Ren suddenly froze. The holographic screen on his wrist flickered violently, turning red as lines of distorted binary code flooded his interface.

[SYSTEM ERROR!]
EXTERNAL HACK DETECTED!
TELEMETRY DRONE 03: SIGNAL LOST!
WARNING: ANCIENT DATA STRUCTURE ENCOUNTERED!
---
"What happened?" Ignis drew his broadsword, instantly getting into a defensive stance. "Did a monster destroy it?"
"No..." Ren swallowed hard, his face going pale as he adjusted his visor’s zoom level. "It wasn’t destroyed. The signal was hijacked. Something down there just re-programmed my drone’s flight path in under two milliseconds."
Ren brought up the last surviving frame captured by Drone 03 before its feed went dark.
The image projected into the air above them. At the very bottom of the Core Basin, sitting amidst a massive lake of liquid dark matter, was a gigantic, ancient structure built from black metal and glowing crimson runes. It resembled a massive, inverted pyramid suspended over a swirling vortex of pure oblivion.
And standing atop the peak of the inverted pyramid was a towering figure wrapped in heavy, ornate obsidian armor. In its right hand, it held a massive, double-headed scythe that absorbed the surrounding light.
"Look at the base of the pyramid," Tsubaki pointed out coldly.
Directly beneath the structure were four massive, artificial conduits locked onto the bedrock with ancient sealing chains. The conduits were actively pulling mana from the surrounding ley lines and pumping it directly into the Void Rupture, forcing the rift to expand by three percent every hour.
"It’s an artificial portal regulator," Ren whispered, his voice trembling with a mixture of shock and anger. "The Void Rupture wasn’t a natural disaster... Someone built an extraction array to deliberately tear open the spatial fabric of this world!"
"A deliberate breach," Lyra said, her eyes flashing with anger. "They sacrificed this entire sector just to open a gateway..."
Above the inverted pyramid, the armored figure slowly raised its head. Even through the recorded holographic image, two burning crimson eyes locked onto the drone’s lens—locking onto them.

[SYSTEM IDENTIFICATION.]
TARGET: Abyssal Sentinel General—Malakor (Tier-SSS)
TITLE: Warden of the Artificial Gate
STATUS: Awaiting Intruders
---
The holographic projection dissolved into static as the drone was crushed miles below.
Silences fell over the floating rock platform. Ignis gripped his sword hilt so hard his knuckles turned white. Tsubaki’s hand rested silently on his katana. Lyra stepped up beside Kaelen, her holy light flaring with protective instinct.
Kaelen looked down at the space where the hologram had been. A cold, dark chuckle escaped his throat, echoing through the cavernous basin with terrifying grandeur.
"An artificial gate," Kaelen murmured smoothly, his dark eyes flashing with lethal amusement. "To think someone thought they could construct a doorway into the Void without asking for my permission."
He stepped to the very edge of the spatial anchor grid, looking down into the dark abyss where General Malakor awaited.
"Ren," Kaelen commanded softly. "Map the fastest trajectory through these gravity fields."
Already done, Lord Kaelen," Ren replied, his confidence returning as he locked the coordinates into their UI. "If we leap through the zero-gravity vectors, we can reach the lower pyramid in less than two minutes."
"Then let us not keep the warden waiting," Kaelen said, his dark voice carrying an absolute, unyielding authority.
With a flick of his wrist, Kaelen enveloped the entire party in a protective cloak of dark spatial mana. In a single, coordinated leap, the five figures launched themselves off the edge of the floating stone, plunging directly into the heart of the gravity labyrinth.
