Death Game in another world

Chapter 58—The Shadows Of Fortress Ironclad.

Chapter 58—The Shadows Of Fortress Ironclad.

The bitter bite of Sub-Zero mountain air greeted the party the moment they stepped out of the spatial rift.

High up on the jagged basalt ridges of sector 7, the environment was vastly different from the coastal ash of Oakhaven.

Perpetual blizzards swept across towering obsidian peaks, swirling with flakes of black ice and raw, unrefined mana dust

Kaelen stood at the edge of a snow-covered cliff, his dark coat heavy in the freezing mountain wind.

Down in the massive chasm below lay Fortress Ironclad, a terrifying militarized mountain refinery built directly into the heart of a dead volcano.

Massive glowing iron pipes ran like giant veins across the stone walls, carrying rivers of molten spatial mana toward giant storage silos that hummed with immense industrial power.

"The entire mountain is wrapped in a dual thermal-spatial barrier," Ren said, crouching low behind a snowbank while shivering slightly. He tapped his arm console, projecting a blue wireframe schematic of the fortress.

"If we touch that outer barrier with physical force, the automated defense cannons will turn this entire ridge into molten slag."

Lyra stepped up beside Kaelen, pulling her heavy dark fur cloak the tighter around her body to block the freezing cold; her skin radiated a soft, comfortable heat from the divine light within her core.

She locked up Kaelen, her blue eyes flashing with a quiet confidence.

"How do we break through a barrier designed to resist continental sieges?" Lyra asked softly.

Kaelen’s lips curved into a dark, confident smile as he looked down at the glowing blue barrier lines stretching across the valley.

"We don’t break it," Kaelen said smoothly, his hand dropping naturally to rest on the small of Lyra’s back, his gloved fingers pressing her gently against his side.

"Ren bypasses the outer signature matrix, and we slip inside like quiet ghosts."

Lyra subtly fell into his touch, a faint flush rising to her cheeks despite the howling blizzard. Her hand rested over his on her waist, her thumb lightly caressing his leather glove.

The silent, possessive nature of his touch in the middle of hostile territory made her heart skip a beat, reinforcing the intense intimacy they had shared back in the cave.

Ren grinned, tapping a complex decryption script into his screen.

"I found an unshielded exhaust conduit on the western side of the mountain. It vents excess spatial heat every three minutes. We jump through during the pulse window."

"Tsubaki, take point," Kaelen ordered, his eyes never leaving the fortress below.

"Silence any sentries near the vent before they can trigger the thermal alarms."

"Consider it done, my lord," Tsubaki whispered, his form instantly blurring into the swirling black snow.

Three minutes later, the party dropped into the dark, steam-filled interior of the western exhaust conduit just as a massive wave of hot spatial mana vented into the sky above.

The transition from sub-zero mountain cold to humid, intense heat was instantaneous.

Deep inside the refinery’s lower ventilation shafts, the iron walls echoed with the deafening roar of industrial mana turbines.

Massive iron gears four stories tall turned slowly, crushing raw spatial ores into liquid mana that flowed through glowing glass conduits toward the main processing chamber.

Kaelen led the way down the iron catwalks, his Void Blade held loosely at his side.

As they rounded a corner near the main refinery hall, two heavily armored Vaelorian elite guards stepped out from an elevated security station, their heavy double-handed war hammers glowing with defensive runes.

CLING!

Before the guards could even raise their weapons or call out, Kaelen moved.

SWISH!

Kaelen didn’t just step forward—he bent space itself, instantly appearing directly between the two giant armored soldiers.

His Void Blade flashed once in a silent, pitch-black circle.

SLASH! SLASH!

The spatial edge bypassed their heavy dragon-scale plate armor as if it were soft paper. Both guards froze, clean black lines appearing across their chests before their upper torsos slid off their armor frames, crashing silently onto the rubber-padded floorboards.

Ren rushed to the central control panel of the security station, jamming his interface directly into the refinery’s main mana valve terminal.

"Jackpot," Ren whispered, his crimson eyes lighting up with manic excitement as line after line of the imperial system data scrolled across his screen.

"This facility isn’t just refining spatial mana for portals. They’re constructing a super-dense Spatial Mana Core—a massive bomb meant to wipe out the entire central realm in a single strike!"

Lyra’s eyes narrowed sharply, her hand gripping her holy blade with white knuckles. "They were going to drop a spatial bomb directly onto our capital?"

"An imperial safeguard," Kaelen said coldly, his voice smooth and devoid of any emotion.

"If conquest takes too long, they simply erase the province from the map."

Kaelen walked up behind Lyra, his chest pressing against her back as he looked over her shoulder at Ren’s console.

He brought his hands around her waist, his fingers lacing together over her stomach, holding her tight against him.

His hot breath brushed against her ear, making her shudder with a mixture of anger at the enemy and raw, intense desire for the man holding her.

"Do not let their crude plans disturb you, Lyra," Kaelen whispered into her ear, his low tone laced with absolute dominance.

"Their bomb will never leave this mountain. In fact... we will let them finish building it."

Lyra leaned back into his chest, letting out a heavy, shuddering breath as her hands covered his.

"You’re going to use their own superweapon against them?"

"Naturally," Kaelen purred softly, his thumb caressing the soft fabric over her hip.

"We will let their refinery overload the core, lock the mountain doors from the inside, and let the Vaelorian Empire incinerate its western military division."

Ren chuckled darkly, tapping his terminal furiously.

"I’m rerouting the cooling fluid valves right now. In ten minutes, the temperature in the core chamber will hit critical mass. Once it starts, even a high commander won’t be able to stop the detonation."

GLING !

Heavy, metallic footsteps echoed down the main catwalk leading into the refinery chamber.

A tall female commander, clad in gleaming silver-and-gold Vaelorian plate armor with a long white cape, stepped into the glowing red light of the hall.

She held a massive, dual-bladed mana scythe that burned with intense platinum fire.

GLING!

"Intruders in the refinery control hub!" Vespera’s voice echoed through the metal hall, cold and sharp as cracked ice. She raised her glowing scythe, pointing it directly at Kaelen.

"I don’t know how you rats survived Oakhaven, but your path ends inside this forge!"

Kaelen didn’t step back. He slowly released his grip on Lyra’s waist, giving her hip a light, lingering squeeze before drawing his Void Blade completely from its sheath.

The dark steel of his blade hummed with pitch-black spatial energy, reflecting the glowing red alarm lights of the collapsing refinery.

"Lyra, Ren, secure the exit conduit," Kaelen commanded smoothly, his violet eyes locking onto Grand General Vespera with terrifying, predatory calm.

"I will handle this general myself."

Lyra drew her holy blade, her eyes burning with fiery devotion. "Don’t take too long, Kaelen. We have a mountain to melt."

Kaelen smiled coldly as spatial ripples began to distort the very air beneath his boots.

"Three minutes," Kaelen murmured.

"That is all she gets."
