Death Game in another world

Chapter 42—The Blood Covenant and the Celestial Map.

Chapter 42—The Blood Covenant and the Celestial Map.

The shattered obsidian stage of the Grand Auction House smelled heavily of ozone, crushed stone, and the lingering, metallic tang of spatial displacement.

Lord Vane remained flat on his back among the rubble, his crimson suit ruined by white marble dust. His hands trembled violently as the tip of Eclipse — Kaelen’s divine longsword—hovered less than an inch above his throat.

The black blade did not merely reflect the dim light of the cavern; it absorbed it, warping the ambient air with a soft, ominous humming sound that resonated in the hollows of Vane’s teeth.

"I... I have money! Millions of golden blood coins!" Vane wheezed, his pale knuckles digging into the shattered stone beneath him as blood-red eyes darted frantically toward the dark ceiling, hoping for enforcers who would never arrive.

"I have slave contracts! Black market routes! Mana mines in Sector 7! I can give you everything!"Kaelen did not flinch. His galaxy-bright violet eyes burned with an icy, absolute clarity that made the subterranean crime lord feel small, frail, and utterly replaceable.

"I don’t care about your coin, Vane," Kaelen said softly, his voice carrying the low, terrifying resonance of his S-Rank Void Sovereign Authority.

"You ruled this sector through fear and slaughter. But fear is a fragile tether when pitted against absolute power." Beside the ruined stage, Tsubaki stood guard with his dark katana drawn, his pitch-black eyes scanning the empty balconies where fleeing merchants had abandoned heavy bags of crystals in their panic.

On Kaelen’s left, Lyra cradled the glowing night lily against her chest with both hands. The soft, azure luminescence of the divine flower cast a tranquil halo over her silver hair, contrasting sharply with the destructive carnage surrounding them.

"The map, Vane," Kaelen commanded, lowering the tip of Eclipse until the dark steel pressed lightly against the pulsing artery on the crime lord’s neck. "The map to the First Heavenly Seal. The Red-Eyed Player assured me you keep it locked within your personal spatial vault. Do not waste my time with lies."Vane swallowed hard, his skin turning a sickly shade of gray.

"The... the Celestial Map? You... You are seeking the relics of the ancients? You don’t know what you’re asking for, boy! The High Houses of the surface... the king himself... they slaughtered entire bloodlines three hundred years ago just to erase the memory of those seals! And yet," Kaelen replied, a cold, dangerous smile spreading across his face,

"they failed to erase me."

Kaelen flexed his wrist, channeling a microscopic thread of Void mana through the blade.

The obsidian steel flared with a blinding purple light, instantly dissolving the magical defensive runes woven into Vane’s crimson suit. The fabric vaporized into thin air, exposing a heavy, obsidian-encrusted ring hanging from a silver chain around Vane’s neck—a high-tier S-rank Dimensional Anchor Ring.

"NO! NO! NO! PLEASE!" Vane shrieked, reaching out with clawed fingers.

Kaelen casually sliced the chain with a swift flick of his sword. He caught the floating ring in his left hand, crushing Vane’s lingering soul-bind with a single, concentrated pulse of his Void Core.

CRACK!

A localized spatial tear snapped open directly above Kaelen’s palm as the ring’s internal vault was forcibly breached. Dozens of high-grade items, black-market contracts, and ancient artifacts spilled forth into the air, hovering within Kaelen’s gravitational field.

Among the floating treasures, a single object radiated a soft, golden radiance that instantly neutralized the dark, corrupted mana of the Undercity—a weathered cylinder made of polished dragon bone, sealed at both ends with glowing celestial runes.

"That’s it," the Red-Eyed Player noted, stepping out from the shadows of the broken pillars, his white porcelain mask glinting under the dim lanterns.

"The Scroll of the Eastern Abyss. The first of three maps leading to the Heavenly Seals that lock the gates of the Grail Chamber."

Kaelen reached out and took the bone cylinder. The moment his fingers touched the ancient bone, the celestial runes flared brightly, recognizing the vast, unbound potential of his restored S-rank core. The seal dissolved into golden dust, allowing the parchment inside to slide smoothly into his hands.

Unfurling the heavy, star-metal parchment, Kaelen studied the glowing lines etched into its surface. It detailed a complex, subterranean labyrinth far deeper than Zone Zero—the Forbidden Catacombs of the First King, located directly beneath the central foundation of the Royal Palace.

"The seal isn’t hidden in some wild, abandoned wilderness," Lyra gasped, leaning closer to read the ancient script. "It’s buried directly beneath the king’s throne room..."

"Which means the nobility has been sitting on top of the Grail’s secret for centuries, unable to open it without the true S-rank Void energy required to break the lock,"

Kaelen said, his eyes narrowing as he rolled the parchment tight and stored it within his own soul space.

He turned his gaze back down to Lord Vane, who was trembling on the stone floor, completely stripped of his power, his vault, and his dignity.

"What... what are you going to do with me?" Vane whimpered, clutching his bare chest.

"You are no longer a lord of Zone Zero," Kaelen stated coldly, willing Eclipse to dissolve back into a streak of violet light that vanished into his palm.

"You will surrender this sector to my companion. You will inform the other four lords of the Void Syndicate that Sector 4 now belongs to the Shadow Sovereign. If I hear a single whisper of treachery... I won’t just take your ring. I will erase your soul from the system."

"I obey! I obey." Vane scrambled backward on all fours like a panicked dog, throwing himself into the dark corridors behind the stage to flee for his life.

Tsubaki watched the disgraced crime lord disappear before turning to Kaelen. "Leaving him alive is a risk, Kaelen. Rats like him always bite back when they find a bigger cat."

"Let him run," Kaelen replied smoothly, his dark coat settling around his shoulders. "He will spread terror to the other four crime lords. By the time we reach their strongholds, their resolve will already be broken."

The quiet hum of the empty auction house settled over them as the echo of Vane’s frantic footsteps faded.

Lyra stood amidst the ruins, her hands carefully wrapping the night lily in a protective silk cloth drawn from her pouch.

She stared at the glowing azure bundle for a long, silent moment before looking up at Kaelen. Her silver eyes were shimmering with unshed tears, reflecting a mixture of profound relief, awe, and an intensity that made even the quiet atmosphere tremble.

Without a single word, Lyra stepped forward and dropped gracefully onto her knees right before Kaelen.

"Lyra? What are you doing?" Kaelen asked, taking a step back in surprise.

"Kaelen," Lyra said, her voice steady and clear, echoing across the vast, empty amphitheater. "When I came to the royal capital, I believed I was alone. I believed I had to play the noble’s game, suffer their indignities, and win their corrupt tournament just to have a chance at saving Elena. I thought strength was something you borrowed from titles and bloodlines."

She reached for her secondary steel blade, drawing the short sword from her hip. Before Tsubaki or Kaelen could react, she drew the sharp edge across the palm of her left hand. A thin line of bright, holy crimson blood welled from the wound.

"Lyra, stop," Kaelen exclaimed, reaching out to grab her wrist.

"No, listen to me," Lyra insisted, looking up into his galaxy-bright eyes with fierce, unyielding devotion. She raised her bleeding left hand toward the ceiling while her holy mana surged forth, wrapping the crimson drops in a radiant, golden light.

"You risked everything. You defied the High Houses, survived an orbital strike, shattered a royal seal, and brought down a crime lord... all to give me this flower. You gave my sister her life back when no noble in this kingdom cared if she withered in the dark."

She pressed her bleeding palm directly against the polished stone floor, channeling her mana into the stone to carve glowing, ancient runes of the sacred ancient order.

"By my blood, my soul, and my holy crest," Lyra declared, her voice trembling with emotion as the gold-and-crimson mana bound itself into the stone.

"I, Lyra of House Silverwing, sever my ties to the false nobility of the surface. I swear my blade, my life, and my eternal loyalty to Kaelen, the Void Sovereign. Where you walk, I shall follow. Your enemies shall be my enemies. Your cause shall be my mandate... until the day we reach the Holy Grail or fall into the abyss together."

Kaelen stared at the glowing runes fading into the stone floor, feeling the sudden, profound soul-connection establishing itself between their mana circuits. He could feel her heartbeat, her unwavering resolve, and the absolute trust she placed in his hands.

He knelt down before her, taking her injured hand into his own. With a gentle thread of void mana, he compressed the space around her wound, instantly cauterizing the cut and wiping the blood away.

"You didn’t need to swear an oath to me, Lyra," Kaelen said softly, pulling her gently back to her feet. "I saved your sister because you are my companion. In my eyes, that means more than any noble bloodline or system contract."

Lyra wiped a stray tear from her cheek, a brilliant, radiant smile breaking across her face—the first genuine smile Kaelen had seen on her since they met at the Academy.

"I know, Kaelen. That’s precisely why I swore it."

Tsubaki let out a soft chuckle from the background, sheathing his dark katana with a sharp click. "Well spoken, Maiden. Though if we are swearing bloody oaths now, save some glory for the rest of us. We still have four crime lords to conquer before we reach this palace basement."

The Red-Eyed Player adjusted his white mask, stepping toward the center of the stage. "He is right. The news of Vane’s defeat will reach Sector 1 within the hour. Lord Malakor the Younger—the strongest of the Syndicate lords—will not sit idly by while an S-rank sovereign rebuilds his empire beneath his feet."

Kaelen stood up, looking toward the dark stone tunnel leading deeper into the heart of Zone Zero. The Celestial Map was secured in his soul space, the cure for Lyra’s sister was in her hands, and his true power was finally unsealed.

"Let them gather their armies," Kaelen said, his eyes flaring with endless violet light as he led his companions into the dark. "This city belongs to the shadows now."
