Chapter 77: 77: THE RIVAL SUSPENSION

----------------

The shrill blast of the referee's whistle signaled the start of the match between Blackpool and Portsmouth, but as the ball was kicked into play, William's mind was still spinning with questions about the missing newcomer.

He sat in the stands with his heart racing, and he simply could not focus on the opening minutes because the absence of Kyle was not announced. He looked around the VIP section and spotted one of the club's junior officials, a man named Mr. Thompson who usually handled the player registrations, sitting just a few rows away with a clipboard in his hand.

William leaned over and tapped him on the shoulder, his voice barely a whisper because he didn't want to draw too much attention to himself during such a high-stakes game.

"Excuse me, Mr. Thompson, but I couldn't help but notice that Kyle isn't on the list today," William said, his eyes filled with a burning

curiosity while he waited for an answer.

"Is everything okay with him, or did he pick up an injury that we don't know about yet?"

The official turned around and adjusted his glasses, and when he saw it was William asking, he leaned in closer to share the information that was currently being kept away from the prying eyes of the media.

"Between you and me, William, Kyle is currently under a strict punishment because of his reckless act against Swansea last week," Mr. Thompson whispered, his face showing a hint of disapproval for the newcomer's behavior.

He explained that Kyle had behaved with

incredible arrogance during the recent training sessions, often ignoring the voach's instructions and acting as if he were bigger than the club itself.

"Coach Lincoln was not happy with his attitude at all, so he decided to give him an indefinite suspension from the match-day squad until further notice to teach him a lesson about humility and teamwork," the official added, and then he turned back to the pitch to watch the game.

William sat back in his seat, his mind reeling from the news as he tried to process how this development would change the landscape of the locker room.

On one hand, he was quite happy because he knew that Kyle would not be able to take

his starting position easily if he was stuck on the sidelines under a disciplinary ban. It felt like a small victory for justice, because Kyle's

arrogance had been a poison in the team's atmosphere, and seeing the coach deal

with it so firmly gave William a sense of relief.

However, at the same time, he was not entirely happy because he realized that the internal opposition against him would likely become much stronger than it was before. He knew that players like Reed and Harris would see this as a sign of favoritism, and they would

probably think that the coach only wanted William in the team and was looking for any excuse to push Kyle away.

This realization made William feel a surge of anxiety, because he understood that the path was getting even more dangerous with every passing day. He knew that if the other players felt that Kyle was being treated unfairly, they

would direct their anger toward him, making his return to the squad after his exams even more difficult.

He watched the match with a heavy heart, and although he was glad his rival was gone for now, he feared that the shadows in the locker

room were growing longer and darker.

Nonetheless, he decided to push these worries to the back of his mind for a moment, because the match on the emerald grass below was beginning to reach a fever pitch of intensity.

He could feel his own legs shaking under his seat as if he were out there on the pitch himself, and every time the ball moved toward the Portsmouth goal, he found himself moving forward with a sharp, analytical focus.

The atmosphere inside Bloomfield Road was electric, and as the game reached the 24th minute, the tension finally exploded into a moment of pure drama.

Ibrahim, the powerhouse striker, received a sharp long ball from Coleman and began to power his way into the Portsmouth penalty area with the ball glued to his feet.

A Portsmouth defender, desperate to stop the attack, mistimed his tackle and clumsily tripped Ibrahim in the box, and the referee didn't hesitate for a single second as he blew his whistle and pointed to the penalty spot.

The stadium erupted in a deafening roar of approval, and William could see himself

jumping out of his seat and shouting "Goal!" before the kick was even taken. Coleman, the veteran general, stepped up to the spot with a look of absolute confidence, and with a graceful run-up, he sent the goalkeeper the completely opposite way as he slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

"GOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLL!"

William screamed along with thousands of other fans, his earlier worries momentarily forgotten in the thrill of the victory. He felt a

sense of pride for his teammates, and he continued to cheer them on from the stands while they celebrated their well-earned lead.

The match continued with great intensity, and Portsmouth began to play with a high-press system to try and find an equalizer, yet the Blackpool defense, led by Brooks and Merino,

remained as solid as a rock.

William watched every movement, every interception, and every clearance with the eyes of a student, taking mental notes on how the team was functioning without him. He noticed that the transition between the defense and the midfield was a bit slower than usual, yet the passion and the grit of the players were undeniable as they fought to keep their unbeaten mission alive.

As the second half progressed, Coach Lincoln decided to make a tactical change to secure the result, and he signaled for Fernandes to prepare to enter the game as a substitute.

The crowd cheered as the captain stepped onto the turf, and his presence immediately brought a new level of energy and creativity to the Blackpool attack.

The game was reaching its final stages when a foul occurred just outside the Portsmouth box, providing Blackpool with a golden opportunity

to double their lead with a free-kick. Fernandes stepped up to the ball, his eyes fixed on the top corner of the net, and as he struck the ball with a beautiful, curling motion, the entire stadium went silent in anticipation.

The ball sailed over the wall and hung in the air for what felt like an eternity before it tucked perfectly into the net, leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

Goaaaaaaallllll!!!

The final whistle eventually blew, signaling a solid 2-0 victory for Blackpool, and the players collapsed onto the grass in a mixture of joy and exhaustion. William watched as they exchanged handshakes and celebrated their ascent to the second position in the league, and he felt a deep sense of satisfaction for his

brothers.

He knew that the match had been a very tough challenge, and he was glad that they had managed to secure the three points even without several key players in the lineup. He stayed in his seat for a few minutes, watching the fans wave their black scarves and sing the club's anthem, while he reflected on the lessons of the afternoon.

He had learned the truth about Kyle's absence, and he had seen the strength of the squad's collective spirit, yet he also knew that his own battle was far from over.

The news of Kyle's suspension was a double-edged sword that cut both ways, and William realized that he would need to be even more careful when he finally returned to the training ground.

He knew that he had to stay focused on his

exams in next week, because achieving academic success was the only way to prove to everyone that he was a balanced and responsible professional.

The vibration of the stadium was still

under his feet as he finally stood up to leave, and he felt a sense of quiet resolve as he walked toward the exit

He reached the heavy metallic gates and stepped out into the cool evening air, his mind already shifting back to the physics and mathematics problems that were waiting for him at the residence.

He knew that the road to the Premier League

was long and full of obstacles, but he felt more prepared than ever to face whatever came his way. He was a student, a warrior, and a vital part of a team that was making history, and he refused to let the jealousy of others or the

arrogance of a rival slow him down.

As he walked home under the fading light of

the sun, William felt a sense of peace that came from knowing he was exactly where he needed to be. The mystery of Kyle was solved, the match was won, and the mission to remain unbeaten was still very much alive. With a final look back at the glowing stadium, William turned his face toward his books and his future, ready for the next challenge that was waiting for him.
