GEM TALENT

Chapter 72: 72 : THE SHADOW BEHIND VICTORY

-----------------------------------

The referee had barely blown the final whistle when the exhaustion truly set in, yet after some minutes had passed, the players finally began to find the strength to pull themselves up.

The stadium was still echoing with the remnants of the incredible noise the fans had made, and moreover, the air was filled with a sense of disbelief that Blackpool had actually managed to overturn a two-goal deficit against the league leaders.

William felt every muscle in his body screaming in protest as he stood up, but the joy of the victory acted like a soothing balm that dampened the physical pain. He looked

around and saw his teammates exchanging pleasantries and shaking hands with the

Swansea players, who looked absolutely devastated by the late loss.

The coaches and the backroom staff also moved onto the pitch to congratulate one another, and consequently, the center of the field became a bustling hub of handshakes,

hugs, and professional respect.

The Blackpool players eventually gathered in a tight circle near the center circle to appreciate their collective effort, knowing that this win was a massive statement to the rest of the league.

However, even in the middle of this celebration, the atmosphere was not entirely perfect because Kyle was standing on the edge of the group with a face that was twisted in a mask of pure, unfiltered anger.

He felt a deep sense of humiliation because he had failed to make any positive impact on the victory, and even worse, he was still fuming

over the way Coach Lincoln had substituted him and shouted at him on the touchline.

To a player who had come from the glitz and glamour of Milan, being treated like a liability was a blow to his ego that he could not easily forgive. William, noticing the dark cloud hanging over his teammate, walked over with a

genuine smile to offer a handshake of peace, yet Kyle simply turned his back and ignored him as if he were invisible.

William didn't let the rejection bother him

because he truly wanted the best for the team, and he realized that some people would rather be miserable in defeat than humble in a collective victory.

After a few more minutes of soaking in the atmosphere of the stadium, the team finally began the walk back toward the tunnel and into the sanctuary of the dressing room.

As they entered the locker room, the smell of sweat and deep-heat rub was overwhelming, yet the energy was electric because every player knew they had just done something legendary. They took their seats, peeling off their heavy, mud-stained jerseys, while they waited for Coach Lincoln to arrive and

deliver his post-match thoughts.

When the door finally swung open, the room went quiet out of respect, and they saw that Lincoln was wearing a wide, satisfied grin that seemed to take years off his face. He stepped into the center of the room and clapped his hands loudly, and then he began to address them with a voice that was thick with pride and emotion.

"I want to thank every single one of you for the cooperation and the incredible passion you showed out there today, because that was the definition of a warrior's performance," Lincoln said, his eyes scanning the room to acknowledge every player who had fought on the grass.

He emphasized that the tactical discipline they showed in the second half was the reason they were standing there as winners, and furthermore, he made it clear that their hard work was finally paying off in the league standings.

"I am proud to announce that with these three points, we have moved into the third position with sixty-one points, which means our dream of the Premier League is no longer just a fantasy, but it is becoming a reality." The room erupted in a sudden roar of approval at this

news, and the players began to cheer and slap the lockers in a rhythmic beat because they could finally see the finish line of their long journey.

Lincoln continued by saying that he wouldn't bore them with a deep tactical analysis tonight, as that discussion and the review of their mistakes would be saved for their next meeting during training. He wanted them to enjoy the moment and let their bodies recover from the most hectic match of the season, and as a

result, he had one more surprise for the squad that made their eyes light up

with joy.

"You have pushed yourselves beyond your limits today, and you deserve a reward for your dedication, so I am telling you now that tomorrow, Monday, is a complete day off for the entire team," he announced with a wink.

The squad immediately began to jubilate, with some players jumping up to dance and others

starting a loud, rowdy song about their promotion hopes. The realization that they could sleep in and rest their aching limbs made the victory feel even sweeter, and the dressing room transformed into a scene of pure, unadulterated happiness.

William sat down on his usual bench, feeling the cool air from the ventilation system on his skin, and he made sure to stay close to Coleman, who was leaning back with a look of quiet contentment.

Even though the room was filled with

singing and dancing, William could still feel a lingering tension coming from the corner where Kyle was seated. Kyle had moved to sit with Reed and Harris, and the three of them were huddled together in a way that looked suspicious and out of place amidst the general celebration.

Kyle's face was still flushed with anger, and as he whispered something to Reed, he threw a sharp, predatory glance in William's direction that made the hair on the back of William's neck stand up. It was clear that while the rest of the team was celebrating their ascent to third place, this small group was focused on something much more personal.

William knew deep in his gut that they were planning something, although he wasn't entirely sure if their plot was aimed directly at him or if they were trying to undermine the coach's authority.

He watched as Harris nodded in agreement to whatever Kyle was saying, and the sight of their synchronized bitterness made William realize that the "rough road" Coleman had warned him about was far from over.

Nonetheless, William decided that he wouldn't let their shadows ruin his night because he had earned his place in the starting eleven through sweat and intelligence.

The celebration continued for a long time, with the players taking turns to recount the dramatic moments of the four-three win, especially the incredible one-on-one finish by Morgan in the ninety-fifth minute.

The bond between the majority of the players was growing stronger with every victory, and the sense of unity was almost palpable in the warm air of the locker room. Even the staff members were joining in the fun, handing out energy drinks and helping the players pack their gear for the long trip back home.

It was the kind of night that every athlete lives for, where the pressure of the match is replaced by the relief of success and the promise of a bright future.

As William finally gathered his belongings and prepared to leave the stadium, he took one last look at the pitch through the tunnel. The floodlights were being turned off one by one, and the emerald grass was now silent and empty, yet the memory of the "Thud" of his goal and the roar of the crowd remained fresh in his mind.

He realized that the battle for the Premier League was not just about the ninety minutes of play, but it was also about the mental strength to ignore the haters and keep moving forward. He felt a sense of quiet victory that was as satisfying as the three points they had just won, and as he stepped onto the team bus, he felt ready for whatever challenges the next week would bring.

He had the support of the coach, the wisdom of Coleman, and the fire of his own

determination to keep him safe from the plots of those who wanted to see him gall.

The journey back was filled with the sounds of snoring players and the low murmur of the radio, but William remained awake for a long time, staring out at the passing lights of the highway. He thought about his exams he still

had to finish and the specialized training drills he wanted to master during the next session.

He was a professional athlete, a dedicated student, and a rising star in one of the most competitive leagues in the world, and he wasn't going to let anyone take that away from him.

The third position was a great achievement,

but he knew that there were still two more spots to climb if they wanted to be the very best. He was ready for the shadows because he knew that the light of his dream was much stronger than any plot they could

devise.
