GEM TALENT

Chapter 58: 58: THE ROAD GETS HARDER

------------

The flickering light from the television cast long, dancing shadows across the living room as the highlights of the match continued to play in a repetitive loop.

William stood near the kitchen table, while his father sat in the armchair with a face that was still beaming with pride. However, the heavy silence that followed their initial celebration

was broken when William finally turned around, his eyes no longer reflecting the

joy of the victory but instead filled with a cloud of deep exhaustion.

He took a seat opposite his father, moving forward with his elbows on his knees, and

began to pour out the suffocating weight of the opposition he had been facing since he stepped into the professional world.

"Dad, I need to tell you everything because it feels like the higher I climb, the more people want to see me fall," William began, his voice trembling slightly with the raw emotion he had been bottling up all day.

He explained in vivid detail how Jamal had cornered him at school, his face twisted with a poisonous envy that made every hallway feel like a battlefield. He didn't stop there, as he also described the silence and the dangerous look from Reed in the dressing room, a

teammate who looked at him not with respect, but with a desire to see him fail so he could take his position back.

"It's not just the fans or the other teams

anymore, it feels like the whole world is pointing a finger at me, making me feel like I've done something wrong by choosing this path," William added, his head bowing under the pressure of a perpetual target that seemed to be painted on his back.

His father listened intently, his expression shifting from pride to a stern, protective focus as he listened to every word his son said. Just as William was about to spiral further into his fears, his father raised a hand to stop him,

his presence suddenly filling the room with a calming authority that demanded attention.

'Stop right there, William, because you are looking at this through the eyes of a boy, not the warrior I raised you to be," his father said, hisvoice firm yet filled with a limitless love. He stood up and walked over to William, placing a heavy, warm hand on his shoulder to ground him in the moment.

"You must understand that success is a bright light, and a bright light will always attract the shadows of those who are stuck in the dark," his father continued, his eyes locked onto William's with an intensity that burned through

the fear. He explained that Jamal's bullying and Reed's jealousy were not signs that William was wrong, but undeniable proof that he was doing everything right, and they also know that he has the potential to be a great footballer.

"If they weren't attacking you, it would mean you weren't a threat, so you must learn to ignore their noise and treat their hate like the wind that blows against a mountain," his father advised.

He told William that his only responsibility was to stay disciplined and focused on his dream, because themoment he allowed the opinions of others to distract him, he would be giving

them the victory they didn't deserve.

William felt a massive shift in his perspective as his father's words settled into his heart like a protective shield. The fear that had been suffocating him began to evaporate, replaced by a razor sharp clarity that allowed him to see

his enemies for what they truly were distractions on the road to greatness.

He took a deep breath, feeling the tension leave his muscles while he realized that

he didn't need to defend himself against everyone's envy as long as he kept performing on the pitch, because he can only prove them wrong on the pitch.

Just as the heavy conversation reached its

conclusion, William's phone let out a loud, rhythmic ping, signaling the arrival of a notification that brought a different kind of reality into the room.

He pulled the device from his pocket and saw that he had received his weekly payment from Blackpool FC, a staggering sum of seventy-five thousand pounds that made his eyes widen in disbelief. In addition to his salary, the club had also deposited an extra forty thousand pounds as a performance bonus for his incredible assist and his Man of the Match award as promised, bringing the total to a large amount of money.

While the numbers on the screen were

breathtaking, William didn't feel like a rich man; he felt like a son who finally had the means to reward the man who had given up everything for his career. He turned the screen toward his father, his hand shaking slightly with pure excitement as he offered the entire amount to him.

"Dad, take this and use it for whatever you need, because I want you to have the best of everything after all the sacrifices you've made," William said, his voice filled with a deeply sincere gratitude. However, his father didn't even look at the numbers on the screen; instead, he looked at his son and let out a soft, knowing chuckle while he gently pushed the phone away.

"I am proud of you for wanting to give, William, but I reject this money for myself because I have everything I need right here in this house," his father replied with a noble humility that moved William to tears. He explained that he would only collect the money to keep it in a secure savings account for William's future,

ensuring that his son would be protected regardless of how the unpredictable world of football turned.

"This money is the fruit of your labor, and while I will guard it for you, it belongs to your future, not my present," his father added, making it clear that he wanted William to remain grounded and humble despite his newfound wealth.

William nodded respectfully, understanding the profound wisdom behind his father's decision, and he felt a renewed sense of security knowing his finances were in such trustworthy hands.

They spent a few more minutes talking about the upcoming exams William will be doing before William realized it was getting late

and he needed to return to the team residence to rest. He bade his father a warm, respectful goodbye, feeling like a different person than the terrified boy who had walked through the door only an hour earlier.

William stopped a taxi and sat down comfortably beside the window and the cool night air helped to clear the last of the fog from William's mind as he reflected on his father's lessons.

He realized that the opposition would never truly go away, but his ability to handle it would determine how far he could go in this grueling profession. When he finally reached the team house and pushed open the front door, he was

immediately greeted by the rowdy, energetic atmosphere that always defined a group of young athletes living together.

He saw his teammates scattered across

the the large room, some playing video games while others were loudly debating the latest transfer news over plates of half-eaten food.

In the midst of the familiar faces like Grant and Coleman, William noticed familiar face that he had seen before, a young man who looked both confident and slightly out of place. Kyle, a new signing who had just arrived to bolster the squad, and he was currently sitting on the edge of the sofa while trying to keep up with the fast-paced banter of the group.

William walked into his apartment, and the noise died down for a second as his teammates acknowledged his arrival with a few friendly shouts and nods of respect. Despite the fame and fortune that was starting to surround him, William felt a sense of belonging in this chaotic environment, because these were the warriors who would stand beside him on the glowing emerald stage.

He made his way toward the kitchen to grab a glass of water, his eyes briefly meeting Kyle's who was passing and he offered the newcomer a welcoming nod that signaled his acceptance.

He could feel the rhythm of the team beating strongly in the house, a machine built for victory that was now being tuned with fresh talent. While the challenges of school and the jealousy of people like Jamal were still

waiting for him tomorrow,

William felt invincible because he had the support of his father and the unity of his team. He retreated to his room, his mind already starting to visualize the next through ball and the next goal, knowing that he was exactly where he was meant to be.

The journey to the top was still long and filled with obstacles, but as he closed his eyes, he was no longer a prospect on the sidelines—he was a warrior who was ready for whatever battle the world decided to bring.
