CHAPTER 31: A NEW RIVAL
Brrrrr!Brrrr!!!!
William's alarm clock began to buzz on his bedside table. The room was still draped in the soft, whith shadows of the early morning, and the rest of the players' residential complex
was silent as a library.
While most of his teammates were still lost in deep sleep after their tiring victory against Luton Town, William was already sitting
up and reaching for his training gear. He knew that talent alone would not keep him at the top, and if he wanted to live up to the famous number 14 on his back, he had to work twice as hard as everyone else.
He dressed quickly, pulling on his moisture-wicking training shirt and tying his laces with a firm, steady hand.
After grabbing a small bottle of water and his keys, William stepped out into the crisp, biting morning air. The dew was heavy on the grass, making the world look like it had been dusted with tiny diamonds under the fading moonlight.
He did a short warm up by jogging toward the Blackpool training base, feeling a strange sense of peace in the emptiness of the roads. When he arrived, the facility was completely deserted, but the security guard recognized him and opened the gates with a surprised nod.
He wasn't used to seeing players arrive at 5:30 AM, especially not the young player who had just arrived only a few days prior.
"Good morning sir", William greeted.
The security answered " good morning William you are so early today, you are welcome"
William didn't waste a single second as he stepped onto the practice pitch. He began with a series of exercises moving his arms in wide circles to loosen his shoulders.
After his body felt warm, he increased the intensity, performing high-knee sprints and side movement that made his heart start to drum against his ribs. He moved with the grace of a professional, yet there was a raw, hungry energy in his movements.
To sharpen his agility, he set up a row of orange cones and began to weave through
them at top speed. He used quick, dainty touches to keep the ball glued to his feet, pivoting his body with such sharpness that he looked like a dancer on the grass.
By the time the clock hit 7:00 AM, William was drenched in sweat, his lungs burning with every breath, but he felt more alive than he ever had before. He was determined to be so fit and so sharp that the coach would have no choice but to start him in every single game.
While William was pushing his body to the limit on the pitch, a very different jind of intensity was brewing inside the main office of the board of directors.
The room was decorated with expensive wooden furniture and glass cabinets filled with silver trophies, but the atmosphere inside was quite heavy. Mr. Clement, the board director sat behind a massive desk while Coach Lincoln paced back and forth near the window. Even though the team had just won a fantastic game, the two men were worried about the long-term future of the club.
Mr. Clement cleared his throat, his eyes looking tired but sharp.
"Lincoln, we need to talk about the reality of our current squad. William is a brilliant boy, and his performance yesterday was exactly what the fans wanted to see, but we cannot be blind to the risks. He is a teenager, and more importantly, he is not officially ours. He is a Chelsea player on loan, and we are essentially building our house on borrowed land."
Coach Lincoln stopped pacing and looked at Mr. Clement with a serious expression.
"I completely agree, Clement. That is exactly what has been keeping me awake at night. William has the potential to be a superstar, but we can't rely on him for everything. If Chelsea sees him doing too well, they could exercise a recall clause and take him back to London in the middle of the season. If that happens, our entire midfield structure will collapse like a
house of cards."
Mr. Clement nodded, tapping a gold pen against the surface of his desk.
"And there is also the possibility of a flop. I know the boy looks like a genius now,
but the Championship is a long, brutal league. One bad injury or a sudden loss of confidence could leave us stuck. We can't put the weight of the whole club on a young boy's shoulders and just hope for the best. It's not fair to him, and it's dangerous for us."
"Exactly," Coach Lincoln replied, his voice full of passion. "I don't want to take any unnecessary risks with this team. My job is to ensure that Blackpool climbs the table and stays there. I want to help the club build a foundation that doesn't depend on just one person. We need a permanent solution in the
center of the pitch—someone who is young, and has potential also, strong, and most importantly, someone who belongs to us. We need a player who can lead the team if William is unavailable or if he struggles with the pressure."
Mr. Clement stood up and walked toward a large digital screen on the wall, which displayed a list of potential transfer targets.
"I'm glad we are on the same page, Lincoln. The board is ready to back you financially if it means securing our future. We have been scouting several players across Europe, but one name keeps coming up as the perfect fit for your system. He's a central midfielder
who has strength but not up to William standard, but with time and excess training, the kid will unlock the potential."
He pressed a button, and a profile appeared on the screen. The name at the top Was written in bold letters: KYLE.
"Kyle is currently playing in Inter Milan U-21, but he's looking for a new challenge where he can be the heart of the team," Mr. Clement explained while showing highlights of the player's performances.
Coach Lincoln studied the footage carefully, watching how Kyle used his physical strength to shield the ball and his long-range passing to start counter-attacks, Lincoln was not satisfied but had to agree because he doesn't want to hinder William's growth
"If we can sign Kyle on a permanent deal, he would be the perfect partner for us
"Then it's settled," Mr. Clement said firmly, reaching out to shake the coach's hand.
"The club will begin the negotiations immediately. We want Kyle here as soon as possible so he can integrate with the squad. We are moving forward with a permanent transfer, and we won't stop until we have a team that is built to win, no matter what happens with our loan players."
As the two men finalized their plans, they had no idea that William was still out on the pitch, pushing himself through his final set of drills. He was practicing his dribble and short passes. He felt stronger and faster than
ever, unaware that the club was already looking for someone to share his throne.
William was training to be the undisputed star of Blackpool, while the men in the suits were preparing for a future where he might not even be there.
The sun was now fully up, William finally stopped, his breath coming in heavy gasps as he wiped the sweat from his forehead with his jersey. He looked around the empty stadium, feeling a sense of pride in his solitary work. He knew the journey ahead would be difficult, but he was ready for whatever challenges came his way.
Whether it was the pressure of the fans, the threat of being recalled by Chelsea, William was determined to prove that he was more than just a "young boy" on loan. He was a professional, and he was ready to fight for his place. He picked up his equipment and headed toward the showers, his mind already focusing on the next match, unaware that the landscape
of the team was about to change forever.
