An Accidental Military Marriage

Chapter 131: The Coolest Official Announcement

Back in the room, Jiang Moli was set down on the bed.

Lu Cheng leaned over and kissed her.

Feeling his fingers undoing the buttons on her collar, Jiang Moli instinctively covered her chest. "I haven’t bathed yet..."

Lu Cheng stopped and immediately sniffed himself.

The smell of sweat.

He caught his breath, then got off the bed. "I’ll go get some water. You get a change of clothes ready."

"Oh."

After a cold shower, he returned to the room feeling much calmer as he gazed at the quiet, petite woman on the bed.

He climbed onto the bed and trapped Jiang Moli in his arms, whispering, "Let’s forget it for tonight. You should rest and let your injuries heal."

Jiang Moli forced a calm nod, but her deeply flushed cheeks completely betrayed her true feelings.

Lu Cheng took the initiative to tell her what had happened at the base that evening.

It was impossible to hide. Even if he didn’t tell her, Jiang Moli would hear it from someone else.

The way things had escalated had also far exceeded Jiang Moli’s expectations.

She wanted to say something, but anything she could think of felt superfluous.

Lu Cheng tapped her delicate, fair chin. "Don’t overthink it. What happened tonight had nothing to do with you. I’m telling you this because I was afraid you’d hear some wild rumors and let your imagination run wild."

She looked up at him. "Then what are you really thinking?"

Although tonight’s incident truly wasn’t her fault, she had undeniably caused him trouble.

Lu Cheng looked down at her. "Do you know why that commotion broke out in the regiment today?"

Jiang Moli said, "Young men are hot-blooded. It’s normal for them to get into a fight over a single disagreement."

Lu Cheng held her chin. His gaze was gentle, but his tone was serious. "Because the men of the First Battalion don’t believe you’re the person the rumors make you out to be. They wanted to protect you, their commander’s wife. They broke the rules, and I punished them for it. But I didn’t chew them out, because I don’t think they did anything wrong."

"I’m the same way. You are my wife. No matter when or where, I will always have your back. I won’t let outsiders bully you."

Jiang Moli couldn’t help but ask, "What if I really do something wrong?"

Lu Cheng stroked her hairline. "Then I’ll stand at attention and take the punishment right alongside you."

Jiang Moli felt a sense of dazed unreality, as if her feet weren’t on solid ground.

This man beside her was nearly perfect. From his looks and height to his family background and status, from his abilities to his character, it was almost impossible to find a flaw.

And this perfect man only had eyes for her.

No one knew her own character better than she did.

’Although I’m not as greedy and lazy as I let on, I’m definitely not smart or studious either.’

’I’m money-grubbing, lustful, unambitious, and a total scumbag.’

’On the surface, I’m snuggling demurely in his arms, but all I can think about is getting that 100 million prize money, abandoning my husband and home, and returning to my original world to be a rich woman and live a life of complete idleness.’

’For an ordinary and vulgar woman like me, what on earth does he see in me?’

She sat up in his arms. "Lu Cheng, don’t be so good to me. Really. I don’t deserve it."

Lu Cheng reached out, pulled her back down, and wrapped himself around her petite frame like a giant octopus.

"I’m the one who decides if you’re worthy or not. We’re the original couple, the perfect couple, a match made in heaven. End of discussion."

He had learned that last line from her.

He had overheard everything she’d said to Jiang Wenjuan outside.

’His little wife was lethally sweet when she was trying to coax someone.’

But Jiang Moli’s eyes were fixed on the pectoral muscle less than an inch from her nose. In the end, she couldn’t resist sticking out the tip of her tongue.

Lu Cheng let out a muffled groan, his large hand clamping onto her chin. "Don’t be naughty."

Jiang Moli blinked slyly. "So we’re really not doing it? Then I’ll just go to sleep, okay?"

Lu Cheng’s jaw tightened, a clear sign of his immense self-control. "Don’t tempt me. My willpower isn’t as strong as you think."

If any other man had said that, Jiang Moli would have thought it was a threat.

But coming from Lu Cheng, she didn’t doubt it for a second.

She scooted back, putting an arm’s length between them, and pulled the blanket completely over herself. "Guess I’ll go to sleep then!"

"Don’t sleep just yet."

She burrowed her face under the blanket, leaving only her bright, round, almond-shaped eyes peeking out at him. "What is it now?"

"You still haven’t told me what ’Little Red Riding Hood’ is."

Jiang Moli smiled to herself. "Little Red Riding Hood is about a sweet, innocent little girl, but her granny was eaten by a big bad wolf."

Lu Cheng waited a moment for the rest of the story, then asked, puzzled, "And that’s it?"

"Little Red Riding Hood’s *granny* was eaten by the big bad wolf," she repeated.

Lu Cheng froze for a few seconds before he finally got it. He patted her on the forehead with his large hand. "Don’t worry. The big bad wolf hasn’t eaten yours. He’s not interested—they’re not even a mouthful."

Jiang Moli: "..."

Seeing her get angry, Lu Cheng couldn’t help but laugh. His wife was just too cute when she was mad.

"Go to sleep. Get up early tomorrow morning. I have something to show you."

"Show me what?"

"You’ll know when the time comes."

「The next day.」

At 6:30 in the morning, Jiang Moli walked out of the guesthouse and stood under the large banyan tree next to it.

As she waited for Lu Cheng, she wondered what he wanted to show her.

’There’s nothing but trees in these mountains. It’s too late to watch the sunrise, too; the sun’s already well above the horizon.’

’Still, the scenery after sunrise is quite beautiful.’

A golden sun hung above the horizon, and the clouds were painted in a myriad of colors, as beautiful as a gouache painting.

As Jiang Moli was lost in the view, the sound of rhythmic, orderly marching suddenly came from the direction of the barracks.

She turned her head to look.

In the golden morning light, a group of soldiers in army-green tank tops was running toward her in formation.

Leading the formation from the side was, of course, her man.

His dark eyes met hers from a distance.

The lines of the muscles on his arms glistened beautifully and captivatingly in the sunlight.

’What is he up to, waking me up this early just to watch them run?’

’But wow, that’s a lot of men.’

’They’re all different heights, but every single one of them is a young guy packed with muscle.’

’I love to see it. I really, really love to see it.’

Before long, the formation drew near and was in front of the banyan tree.

Lu Cheng took a breath and bellowed, "Company, eyes left!"

SWISH.

The running soldiers all turned their heads toward the banyan tree in perfect unison, and in doing so, they also saw Jiang Moli standing beneath it.

’Wow, it’s the Commander’s wife!’

’In the flesh!’

’So beautiful!’

"Greet the commander’s wife!"

"Good morning, ma’am!!"

"Good morning, ma’am!!"

"Good morning, ma’am!!"

The soldiers were well-trained, shouting their greeting to Jiang Moli in unison, one ten-man squad at a time.

As one simple and innocent young face after another passed before her, Jiang Moli was filled with an indescribable mix of shock and emotion.

This was the coolest, most hardcore relationship announcement she had ever seen!

She cupped her hands around her mouth like a megaphone and shouted at the man’s tall, broad back, "Lu Cheng, you’re so damn cool!"

"The Commander’s wife is complimenting you, Camp Commander Lu!"

The running soldiers hooted and hollered, teasing him.

"Mind your own business, I can hear just fine!"

Lu Cheng barked a reprimand, but his grin was so wide an AK-47 couldn’t have suppressed it.

"Every last one of you, save your energy for the extra drills! Company, pick up the pace!"

"Sir, yes, sir!"

Even though they were getting extra drills, the soldiers didn’t feel the slightest bit of resentment or dissatisfaction.

Because no matter how long the extra drills lasted, Lu Cheng would be right there with them.

In Lu Cheng’s own words, when the men under his command made a mistake, it was because he, their leader, had failed to set a good example. Therefore, he deserved to be punished alongside them.
