Chapter 174 - grandma ?
I went beside Mom and looked toward that location.
She stopped at my Space Barrier, but she couldn’t feel any resistance. In an instant, I vanished.
She blinked, but her Perception had already caught everything.
I was now hiding behind Mom.
Then I heard Mom’s voice.
"Mom, don’t scare Gray. He’s a very perceptive kid."
She looked at Mom with annoyance.
"Seraphina, stay out of this. He’s my grandson. I’ll take care of him. Go away."
Then she slowly approached me.
From their conversation, I had already figured out quite a few things, so I didn’t move.
She looked at me warmly.
"You might not remember me. We haven’t met many times."
"I’m your grandmother."
I looked at her, my eyes widening.
Grandma?
I had never really thought about the other members of my family besides Mom and Amy, so I didn’t know what my grandmother looked like.
I blinked a couple of times.
She looked a lot like Mom.
Someone could easily mistake her for Mom’s older sister.
I looked at her in confusion, and Mom explained.
"Gray, this is your grandmother. She’s usually on the battlefield, so she hasn’t had much time to come here."
"She came back to participate in choosing the next head of the family."
I blinked again, processing the information.
Then I looked at Grandma.
She was staring at me with a warm expression, almost as if she was waiting for me to call her that.
So I finally said,
"Grandma...?"
She nodded with a bright smile.
Then she hugged me.
My Space Barrier was still active.
She touched it, and considering her strength, she could probably crush it if she wanted to.
But she didn’t.
Instead, she waited.
I immediately canceled the barrier.
She hugged me tightly.
"Ohh, what a cute and adorable grandson I have!"
Then she lifted me off the floor and glared at Mom.
"Okay, Seraphina. You go on with your work."
"I can take care of my grandson."
Mom stood there speechless.
Then Grandma noticed Luna.
Her eyes practically lit up.
"Oh, what a beautiful and adorable little girl!"
"What is your name?"
We were both wearing lab coats, so she asked another question before Luna could even answer.
"Are you two friends?"
Luna stammered slightly because of Grandma’s enthusiasm and how quickly she asked questions.
Then she replied,
"My name is Luna."
"And you can say we’re friends."
Her eyes brightened again.
"Hmm, Luna. That’s an excellent name."
"Wait..."
"You resemble her."
"Are you Aurelia’s daughter?"
Luna nodded.
Grandma smiled and nodded.
Then she asked,
"What do you mean when you say you can call yourselves friends?"
"Don’t you two like each other?"
Once again, Mom interfered.
"Mom, they’re engaged."
"It’s a promise between me and Aurelia."
"And if they don’t like each other, they can cancel the engagement in the future."
Grandma glared at Mom again.
"Seraphina, who asked you?"
"Shoo. Go do your work and let me spend time with my grandchildren."
Mom was completely speechless.
She couldn’t say anything to Grandma.
After all, she was her mother.
So Mom simply stayed where she was in silence.
Grandma looked at us.
"Oh..."
"You two are already engaged?"
Then her gaze moved toward Mom again.
This time, Mom asked,
"What now?"
"Seraphina, you let something this important happen and didn’t even inform me?"
Mom looked at her.
"Ah... if I informed you, you would have come here and left everything behind just to witness it."
Grandma looked at Mom with an annoyed expression.
"Who gave you the right to decide that, Seraphina?"
"I’m his grandmother."
"And that child is like my own grandchild too."
"I have every right to see such an important moment with my own eyes."
Today, Mom was completely outmatched.
She had no rebuttal.
Her authority didn’t work on Grandma.
It was quite the opposite.
Grandma was scolding Mom like a child who had done something wrong.
"I’ll deal with you later, Seraphina."
Mom was speechless.
"But I’m the head of the family."
Grandma looked at her disdainfully.
"Ah, head of the family?"
"What has that gotten into your head, Seraphina?"
"I’m your mother."
"I can discipline you whenever I want."
Mom simply stood there and sighed.
That only made Grandma even angrier.
"Ah, you’re sighing at your mother now?"
Mom immediately went silent.
There was nothing she could say.
Grandma glared at her for another moment before returning her attention to us.
Her hostility practically vanished into thin air.
Only warmth remained.
She looked at us and smiled.
"That’s good."
"You two are engaged."
"You’re such an adorable and perfect match together."
We didn’t say anything.
Grandma simply pinched my cheeks.
"Ahh, you’re so cute!"
"I’ve missed my grandchild so much."
I simply let her do it.
I could feel the love she had for me.
I had no reason to refuse it.
That made Grandma even happier.
"Ah, you’re such a good child."
Then she looked at our outfits and asked,
"So, what are you two doing dressed like this?"
"You both look like professional scientists."
I smiled.
"We’re making a birthday present for Amy."
Her interest immediately peaked.
"Oh?"
"A birthday present?"
"Do you need any help from me?"
I shook my head.
She immediately continued.
"I’m very powerful, you know."
"Even more powerful than your mother."
"So I can help you with anything."
I still shook my head.
"We just finished the gift."
Her eyes widened.
"Oh?"
"You already finished it?"
"Let your grandma see."
I nodded and looked at Luna.
She took off her Space Ring and gave it to me.
I took it and handed it to Grandma.
"This is the gift."
"We still need to put a pattern on it, but the ring itself is finished."
She studied it carefully.
"Hmm..."
"It’s a Space Ring, right?"
I nodded.
"Yeah."
"We made a Space Ring where time doesn’t flow inside."
"Amy can store all her favorite food inside and enjoy it whenever she wants while it’s still fresh."
Mom chimed in.
"They studied how to make artifacts."
"They started from scratch and made that Space Ring for Amy."
Grandma’s eyes lit up immediately.
This time, she didn’t even look at Mom.
Her eyes remained fixed on us.
"So..."
"How long did it take you two to make this?"
I thought for a moment before replying.
"Ah... four to five days."
Luna nodded.
"Yeah, about that long."
Grandma’s eyes practically glowed.
"Wow..."
"My grandchildren are geniuses among geniuses!"
"Even most talented people in the world couldn’t achieve something like this."
"Did you two make it together?"
We both nodded.
Luna explained,
"We studied different books."
"After finishing them, we shared the important knowledge we learned from each one."
Grandma nodded as we explained how we had created the ring.
Then she looked at me.
"Hey, little Gray."
"When I tried to touch you, I encountered something else."
"I didn’t crush it because I was worried something might happen to you."
"What was it?"
I nodded.
"Ah, that’s a technique I created for myself."
"I don’t know if anyone else has something similar, but I created a Space Barrier around myself and made the inside of it my own space."
"I can manipulate things inside it."
"It’s kind of like my Absolute Space."
"But I’m still too weak to change everything inside it."
"Still, it can block many attacks and other things."
She listened with interest.
Her eyes lit up.
"Hmm..."
"So you have Space and Ice?"
I nodded.
"And Darkness too."
Her expression brightened.
"Oh?"
"You have three elements?"
I nodded.
"Yeah."
"She has three too."
I pointed toward Luna.
Grandma looked at Luna.
"So, what elements do you have?"
Luna didn’t hide anything.
She knew Grandma was a good person.
Besides, what was the point of hiding them?
Grandma was in a completely different league compared to us.
Luna was about to answer, but Grandma spoke first.
"You must have Light."
"And besides that?"
Luna nodded with a smile.
"I have Ice and—"
Grandma cut her off again.
"Really?"
"You have Ice as well?"
"So you two can practice together!"
"Oh, wait..."
"How about I train you too?"
"We don’t have much time before the succession, but I can at least spend some time training my grandchildren."
Then she muttered with a grumpy expression,
"It’s all because of that ugly beast."
I looked at Grandma.
I was beginning to like her personality.
She was really fun to be around.
Then Grandma asked,
"So, what’s your last element?"
Luna smiled.
"It’s Moon."
"I got it from a Secret Realm."
Grandma nodded with understanding.
For many people, obtaining another element was practically impossible.
But Grandma had experienced enough of the world that it didn’t surprise her.
"Hmm..."
"Moon Element."
"That’s an interesting element to have alongside your Light Element."
"So, what do you think?"
"Do you want to train with Grandma?"
Before Luna could reply, I nodded.
"Yes."
Luna nodded as well.
