The Extra who regained his past life memories

Chapter 149 - another trap

I nodded and put it away. I looked for more treasure but found nothing else inside.

So I looked at Luna. She was studying the shield, and a small grin appeared on my face. I went to her side.

"Hmm, Luna, what are you going to be? A shield-sword user? If so, I can hide behind you and take a rest."

I yawned.

Luna glared at me.

"No, I’m not. Go spread your laziness to some other person. Shoo, shoo."

I grinned and doubled down.

"Ah, don’t be so cold."

She just huffed and didn’t say anything. She knew I was making fun of her.

I just look at her huffing face and smile at it.

Then Elena came and smiled at that.

"Okay, okay. Let’s move to the next room and get as much loot from this place as possible."

"Where to next?"

I tried to get the bottle, but Amy gave me a glare and pointed in a direction.

"Let’s go this direction."

I looked at her and just sighed before following her.

Luna laughed at that.

"Serves you right."

Then we went to the next room.

For the first few moments, nothing happened. Then the white room’s colors changed, and we could see floor tiles on the floor.

Looking at them, I got an idea.

What are those? It’s like the same trap that old man’s ruin had.

Amy looked at them and asked me,

"Gray, can you see through the traps with your Perception?"

I tried to see through them, but my range wasn’t enough. I could see the normal mechanism, but not the true trap.

All of them were the same, and this room hid them well, unlike that ruin.

So I shook my head and said,

"No, I can’t. I can see there is indeed a trap, but they’re all the same."

She nodded and asked,

"So this is what we do? One goes onto those floor tiles, while the others keep an eye on the one who goes and make sure that even if the tile is a trap, the others can help avoid it?"

We nodded, and Amy asked,

"Who wants to go?"

Everybody looked at each other, and I raised a hand cheerfully.

"I’m going!"

Amy looked at me and asked,

"Are you sure, Gray? This is risky."

I nodded enthusiastically.

"Yeah. If something happens, I can detect it with my Perception and teleport back. And it looks so fun."

She just sighed, putting a hand on her forehead.

"Ah, Gray. When is your obsession with this seeking fun going to end?"

I pretended to think and said,

"Hmm... I think... never."

I grinned.

She just looked at me.

"You are hopeless as ever. Okay, let’s start. Choose a tile to go on."

I nodded and looked at all the floor tiles.

I wondered which tile to go to, but I just didn’t think much about it and let luck handle it.

I stepped onto one tile.

I stayed fully aware of my surroundings with my Perception.

I looked down and saw the tile turn green, but I didn’t let my guard down.

Who knows? This place could have some twisted humor where red is safe and green is dangerous. Or maybe there is no difference and they’re all green. There are so many possibilities, so I can’t let my guard down.

After staying there for a few moments and making sure nothing happened, I went to the next tile in another lane.

Amy, Elena, Luna, and Elara watched in silence for any trap.

I stepped onto it.

Then it turned yellow, and from the four sides of the room, four laser guns appeared.

My eyes narrowed, and I immediately used a Space Bullet on the one in front of me.

Amy and the others immediately attacked the other three and destroyed them.

I sighed in relief.

Then they came to the other tile that was safe.

I felt like jumping constantly, but what if some hidden mechanism happened and lots of traps appeared at once and someone got injured?

So I took one step at a time.

I like to loot treasure, but I don’t care about it more than their safety.

Then I went to the next tile, and it was green.

I never let go of my Perception.

I took another one.

It was green too.

The others followed my track.

I took another one, and I wasn’t lucky this time.

Four little doors opened, and water began to flow out.

I panicked.

This is a red one. This must symbolize something.

From my deduction, this was a death trap that kept the floor warm until we drowned.

Amy acted quickly and used her Ice to freeze those small doors to the point that no water could come through.

I knew that was a double-edged sword.

When enough water got stuck there, the ice would break, and the water would come out like a dam breaking.

So we needed to speed up.

Amy knew that too, so she supplied more Ice and made sure it held off much longer.

I had to go three more tiles to reach the other end.

Amy said,

"Hurry up. We don’t have much time."

I nodded and took another step onto another floor tile.

It glowed green.

I didn’t have time to celebrate.

I took another step, and it turned red.

My heart sank, and I felt like something was coming, so I used Space to jump to the other lane’s tile.

I saw the one I had stepped on get crushed by a big spike that fell from above.

I gulped.

If I had waited any longer, I might be dead by now.

But I didn’t have time to think about it.

Amy was still supplying Ice to block off the water, so I only had to take one step.

I didn’t hesitate.

I took it, used my Perception to the maximum, and waited.

The tile became green, and the door to the next room opened.

Amy shouted,

"Hurry up! This is going to break!"

No one questioned her.

Everyone used their movement arts and went to the exit.

The ice broke, and the water burst through with extreme pressure.

Most of us made it through, but Amy was still in there.

She could come through if she used her Ice to make a path, but I couldn’t gamble on it.

So I turned around and Blinked to her.

I grabbed her and Blinked back.

As soon as I vanished, water flooded the room.

I went to the other room with Amy, and a shield separated the water from coming into this room.

I looked at Amy, and she looked at me with a warm smile and brushed my hair.

"Hey, who do you think you’re saving, big sister? You’re still too young to help me. I can escape that with my speed."

"But thank you, little brother."

She really could escape with her incredible speed, but at that time, I didn’t think about that.

The only thing that came to mind was Amy.

So I used teleportation even though it cost me a lot of mana.

I smiled and looked at the others and asked,

"Are you guys okay?"

They nodded and said,

"We’re fine."

But Luna appeared beside me and looked at me.

"How are you?"

I just smiled and said,

"Who, me? Ah, I’m completely fine. My mana is a little low, but besides that, I’m completely fine."

She looked at me for a few seconds and nodded.

And I looked in the direction of the treasure chest.

This damn thing better have something good, or else I’ll fry that rabbit and eat it for dinner.

I went toward the treasure chest, and Luna came with me.

Elena and Amy just looked at us and smiled at how completely our moods changed as soon as we saw the treasure.

Elara followed us too. She had been a little stiff at first, but now she was getting more into this stuff.

I looked at the treasure chest and then at Luna.

"What do you think this has?"

She looked at it with excitement.

"I don’t know either. That makes opening it even more exciting."

I nodded.

"That’s true. Opening a mystery box is thrilling."

Then we opened the box.

And I looked inside.

There were many items inside the chest like some are artifacts and other ate potions.

I looked at them, my eyes shining, and picked one up to inspect it.

[Item: Inferno Orb]

[Type: Consumable]

[Description: This orb contains a powerful fire attack. By crushing it, you can deal massive damage to a target. One-time use.]

I looked at it, and my eyes lit up.

"Hmm... it’s similar to the item that guy used against me."

"Interesting"

I nodded and put it away before looking at the other items.
