Chapter 121: I Didn’t Expect You to Be This Kind of Adrian Grant
"Is this glass double-layered, too?"
Stunned, Caroline Whitman couldn’t help but ask.
The moment the words left her mouth,
her mind immediately conjured up some blush-worthy images. Adrian Grant, seemingly on the same wavelength, chuckled and said:
"That’s right. Want to give it a try?"
’I’ve been blushing way too often these past few days,’ Caroline Whitman thought. ’My idealized image of Adrian Grant is starting to shatter.’
"I never knew you were this kind of man, Adrian Grant!"
’Is it too late to back out now?’
Adrian Grant laid her down on the bed. He stood over her, untying his tie. The eyes behind his glasses were still predatory, yet held a hint of amusement.
"What kind of man?"
"This kind?" he chuckled softly.
Caroline Whitman watched as his long, slender fingers slowly, deliberately undid his tie and casually draped it over the coat rack beside the bed.
Then, she watched as his hands moved to his collar and began to undo the buttons.
She couldn’t help but swallow.
’Good heavens.’
’She was an innocent girl; she’d never witnessed a scene like this.’
’Is... is it about to happen?’
Caroline Whitman’s eyes were wide, not daring to blink for even a second.
His well-defined fingers undid the buttons of his shirt one by one, top to bottom, and her gaze followed them down.
When his hands reached his belt, Caroline Whitman’s eyes had no choice but to follow.
She couldn’t ignore the bulge there, either.
’Holy crap!’
CLICK. The belt came undone.
Just as she braced herself for an even racier scene, Adrian Grant turned and walked into the bathroom.
He tossed a sentence over his shoulder: "Go on and sleep. I’m going to take a quick shower."
"..."
The bathroom had frosted glass, so all she could see was a blurry silhouette. That, and the sound of the shower. Nothing else.
Caroline Whitman silently averted her gaze. Lying on the bed with her hands behind her head, she stared out at the bright sun, blue sky, and white clouds.
Her gaze shifted, and she finally started to take in the room’s furnishings.
’Wow, this place is pretty big.’
A bed, a sofa, a bathtub, a walk-in closet—it had everything.
Caroline Whitman sat up, wondering where the button for the curtains on the three windowed walls could be.
She soon found a button on the headboard. The curtains began to slide shut, and the room slowly darkened.
Ten minutes.
Adrian Grant showered for a full ten minutes.
Caroline Whitman lay there for those same ten minutes. Just as she was about to drift off, she felt the covers on the other side of the bed lift.
He slid into bed, bringing with him the cool scent of shower gel and a wave of cold air.
It wasn’t the chill from the air conditioner.
Caroline Whitman turned over and touched his bare chest beneath his robe. It was ice-cold.
She could tell from a single touch that he’d been standing under cold water for a long time.
Adrian Grant grabbed her hand. ’Does she have any idea what her warm fingers are doing to me right now?’ he thought. ’This is only going to have the opposite effect.’
"Stop that. Aren’t you tired? Otherwise, neither of us is getting a nap."
"..."
Caroline Whitman behaved.
’I’ll be a good girl one last time.’
Seeing her immediately squeeze her eyes shut, Adrian Grant chuckled. He kissed her forehead, ruffled her hair, and then settled down to sleep as well.
’Any more kissing or touching, and things would spin out of control again.’
With no alarm set for their nap, it was already two-thirty when Caroline Whitman woke up.
Or maybe she had slept so soundly that she hadn’t heard an alarm, because she had no idea when Adrian Grant had even gotten up.
She climbed out of bed and picked up her phone. Adrian Grant had sent her a message half an hour ago.
"Stay here this afternoon. Wait for me to finish work, and we’ll go home together."
"Come out whenever you’re awake and feel like it."
"..."
’It’s the weekend, and the entire Grant Group is working overtime,’ Caroline Whitman thought. ’No way I’m going out there.’
So she flopped back onto the bed, phone in hand.
At three o’clock, Adrian Grant pushed the door open. He found Caroline Whitman still lying on the bed, the sounds of a tile-matching game coming from her phone. He said with an amused laugh:
"You’re awake. Why didn’t you come out?"
"’Cause I was afraid you’d kiss me again."
She didn’t even look at him, her fingers focused on swiping matching yellow chicks. WHOOSH. A successful clear.
Who would have thought that the moment she said it, his familiar, pleasant scent would draw near again. The next second, a large hand covered hers, causing the phone to slip onto the bed. He smoothly interlaced their fingers and raised her hands above her head.
Gentle lips drew near, filling her mouth with a lingering, moist heat.
The kiss was brief, a mere taste.
Adrian Grant pulled back from the sweet, lingering moment. He caressed her lips, knowing what she was worried about, and smiled.
"They’ll knock before coming in. And I’m not someone who gets horny just anywhere, anytime."
"..."
’Based on their interactions this afternoon, even though he hadn’t done anything too out of line, she found it very hard to believe that last statement.’
Adrian Grant stood up. "I want to be able to look up and see you."
The unexpected sweet talk made Caroline Whitman’s heart skip a beat.
She muttered to herself, ’I never realized he was such a smooth-talker.’
Even so, she still politely declined. A boyfriend was a boyfriend, and a husband was a husband.
Even if they had kids someday, that was a matter for the future.
Right now, she needed to maintain a sense of propriety and distance in this gray area.
"I’m not an employee here. Aren’t you afraid I’ll overhear company secrets?"
"If a few little secrets are enough to bring down the Grant Group, then that would just be a testament to your ability. In that case, I might as well surrender to you directly—it might even save the company," Adrian Grant joked.
Caroline Whitman ignored his banter and glanced at the time. "What time do you get off work?"
"Five."
"Oh. Well, then you can just bear with it for another two hours."
Caroline Whitman picked up her phone and rolled over, turning her back to him again.
Seeing her persistence, Adrian Grant didn’t press the issue. He just pinched her cheek and said, "You’re so heartless."
In the end, he couldn’t resist stealing a few more lingering kisses. Knowing he was reaching his limit, Adrian Grant finally left the room.
For someone at work, two hours can feel like an eternity.
But for Caroline Whitman, it was just enough time to watch a few videos and play a few rounds of her game.
When Adrian Grant came in for the third time, Caroline Whitman was just getting out of bed, smoothing out her rumpled clothes and hair.
Seeing Adrian Grant move to hug and kiss her again, Caroline Whitman playfully tapped his chest with a small, restrained fist. "Aren’t you leaving yet? You want to spend the night here?"
"As long as you’re here, I wouldn’t mind."
"You smooth-talker."
Adrian Grant really wasn’t the type to get worked up at the drop of a hat—at least, there was no sign of it yet—but he was the type who got what he wanted.
He insisted on a kiss, and once his lips found hers, he lingered for what felt like an eternity before finally leading her out of the office and leaving the Grant Group building.
By the time they saw the sky again, it had already grown dark.
It was only their first day together, and Caroline Whitman had only spent a few hours with him. This was just the beginning.
For the first time, she was starting to understand what Ryan Grant had told her about Adrian Grant being "kicked out of the family home for being too clingy."
