Yes, I Have a Child with the Villain

Chapter 85: You’re Such a Loving Couple

Adrian Grant had already lifted the covers and lain down matter-of-factly, his deep voice reaching her ear:

"Don’t mention it. You really don’t have to put yourself out sleeping on the sofa."

"Besides, it’s not like we haven’t shared a bed before. You don’t have to be so distant."

It was a clear, sunny day in Kingsport, with the sun shining brightly outside.

But the blackout curtains in the room were so effective that the interior was pitch-black, as if it were nighttime.

The air conditioning in the room was cranked up, making it a bit chilly.

Caroline Whitman pulled the blanket tighter, trying to wrap herself up snugly.

"So when you say ’not be distant,’ does that mean we can share a bed like this even when our son isn’t around?"

Perhaps because the cold air from the AC had gotten to her, when Caroline Whitman heard Adrian Grant’s last sentence, her mind went blank and she just blurted it out.

"Forget I said anything," she said hurriedly.

Feeling it was inappropriate and worried he would read too much into it, Caroline Whitman quickly added, "What I mean is, what you said can be easily misunderstood. You should avoid saying things like that in the future."

"I’m going to sleep. Don’t say another word."

Caroline Whitman quickly added this, just in case he was about to spit out some heartless, venomous words.

Adrian Grant: "..."

He hadn’t said anything yet.

’Did she just back down a little too quickly?’

The room fell silent.

Only the faint sound of their breathing remained.

Now, it was Adrian Grant who couldn’t sleep.

A few minutes later, her breathing became long and steady. It sounded like she’d fallen fast asleep.

’She fell asleep so quickly.’

Adrian Grant lay there quietly beside her for a while before finally concluding he had overestimated himself.

He had no choice but to get up and leave the room.

Ryan Grant, who had just brought a puzzle out from the playroom and was working on it by himself in the living room, looked up and saw his dad come out.

He tilted his little head and asked curiously, "Daddy, why aren’t you sleeping anymore?"

Adrian Grant: "You woke me up, so I can’t sleep anymore."

"Oh, I’m sorry, Daddy. I didn’t mean to wake you up."

"..."

"You don’t have to apologize for everything. There’s no need to be sorry for getting me to carry Mommy into the room."

Ryan Grant blinked. "Daddy and Mommy have been really polite to each other lately. I thought you’d be mad just now."

’Polite?’

After all this time, they did indeed maintain a subtle politeness between them.

Even their child had noticed.

Adrian Grant ruffled his son’s hair and sat down. "I’m not."

The little guy looked up from his puzzle. "Daddy, are we still going to be in Kingsport tomorrow?"

Adrian Grant: "Where do you want to go?"

Ryan Grant began to think seriously.

Just then, his phone suddenly rang. He picked it up and saw it was Zane Carson:

"Adrian, are you free tonight? Want to come out and hang?"

Adrian Grant looked at his son, who had paused his puzzle to think. "I’m not free."

Zane Carson said on the other end, "I heard from that guy Milo Morgan that you’re chasing some woman. Getting into a relationship, are you?"

Adrian Grant: "Almost. If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up."

After saying that, he hung up and tossed the phone aside.

Zane Carson spread his hands and turned to Gene Carson. "Well, you heard him. The man’s not free, and you don’t have a shot."

Gene Carson pouted. "He likes someone? Who is it?"

Zane Carson: "How should I know? He’s not going to tell me if I ask him now. Even Milo Morgan doesn’t know."

Gene Carson’s brow furrowed slightly. Lost in thought, she murmured to herself, "How could he possibly like someone?"

Zane Carson couldn’t help but laugh at that. "He’s a person, not a god. Of course he can like someone."

Gene Carson bit her lip. "So many people chased him before, and he didn’t like any of them. Why is it that in the few years I’ve been away, he suddenly has someone he likes?"

Zane Carson sighed and patted his sister’s shoulder. "Sis, I’m not trying to be harsh, but if you really had a chance, you would’ve succeeded long ago."

"Besides, you had the advantage of me being here—a direct line to him. That gave you a leg up on all the other girls who wanted to get close to Adrian."

"I’d love for him to be my brother-in-law, but if there’s no fate between you two, there’s no fate. You should give up on the idea sooner rather than later."

"And don’t you go doing anything stupid. Don’t create an embarrassing situation for everyone."

Gene Carson didn’t say anything, but dejectedly went upstairs!

...

Caroline Whitman had napped for nearly twenty minutes. After their conversation, she had been desperate to fall asleep to escape the awkwardness, and unexpectedly, she actually did fall asleep—she wasn’t just pretending.

When she woke up, Adrian Grant wasn’t beside her.

She subconsciously reached out to feel the spot on the bed next to her. It was cold, which meant he had been up for a long time.

For a moment, she didn’t know whether to feel disappointed or relieved.

She got out of bed, glanced at the time, and saw it was almost three o’clock.

After coming out, she found no one in the living room, no one in the study, and no one in the playroom.

Not only was the child gone, but the adult was too.

’Did Adrian Grant take our son out?’

Just as she took out her phone, about to call Adrian Grant, the door opened.

The tall, upright figure of a man appeared in the doorway. He was holding their son in his left arm and a bouquet of roses in his right hand.

Not only was he holding them, but Ryan Grant’s chubby little hand was also holding two roses.

"Mommy, these are for you." After coming inside, Ryan Grant was put down, and he immediately ran to Caroline Whitman, holding up a rose and saying in a sweet, soft voice.

Caroline Whitman took it, bending down with a smile. "Thank you, sweetie."

"For you." Adrian Grant held the flowers out to her.

Looking at the bouquet, Caroline Whitman asked with a hint of confusion, "You two went out just to buy flowers?"

"Yeah."

This time, Adrian Grant offered no further explanation.

When Caroline Whitman saw the roses, she thought, ’This man really loves his roses.’

She remembered that since they’d been away from home for a few days, the flowers in the house did need to be replaced.

So she took the bouquet and turned to replace the flowers from a few days ago.

While arranging the flowers, Caroline Whitman wondered, ’Should I go downstairs to the flower shop and buy a bouquet too?’

’But would that be too obvious?’

Caroline Whitman looked at the two remaining empty vases. ’To hell with it!’

So, she decided to go downstairs to the flower shop in their residential community and buy some more flowers.

She changed her clothes, and as she was heading out, she happened to run into the grocery delivery guy.

Needless to say, she knew Adrian Grant had ordered them.

Caroline Whitman brought the groceries inside. As she was about to head out again, her son asked, "Mommy, where are you going? I want to go too."

So, she took her son downstairs to the flower shop in the community.

"Mommy, what kind of flowers are you going to buy?"

The shopkeeper saw the child who had just been there a short while ago, then looked at the different adult with him. Hearing what the child called her, she instantly understood.

She greeted them with a smile. "Hello, what kind of flowers are you looking for?"

"Could you wrap up a bouquet of roses for me?" Caroline Whitman said casually.

Hearing this, the shopkeeper smiled. "A gentleman brought this child in to buy a bouquet of roses just a little while ago. That was your husband, right?"

Hearing the word "husband," and with her son right there, Caroline Whitman gave a stiff nod and grunted, "Mhm."

The shopkeeper looked down to wrap the flowers and said with a laugh, "You and your husband have such a great relationship. It’s pretty rare to see couples still giving each other flowers so often after getting married."
