Chapter 77 : Exposed
As Mark made his way back to the Boys’ hideout, his thoughts kept drifting to Annie.
He wasn’t worried about himself — if Homelander wanted another fight, he’d get one. Annie was different.
Homelander had a habit of taking his anger out on whoever was nearby, and after today’s humiliation there was no telling how he’d react.
That was the problem with him. He wasn’t just violent, he was unpredictable. Nobody could tell what was going through his head until he’d already made up his mind.
Mark pushed open the door.
M.M. walked over immediately and pulled him into a hug. "You did good. Vought’s getting hammered right now. Every news channel’s talking about Compound V, Congress is all over them, and for once they don’t get to control the story."
Mark managed a faint smile. "It won’t last."
"I know. But this is the first real hit they’ve taken in years."
Butcher looked up from the newspaper spread across the table. "Those corporate bastards have spent decades acting untouchable. Now they’re scrambling to explain themselves. That’s a bloody good start."
Frenchie glanced over from his workbench. "And while they clean their own mess, they have less time to look for ours."
Then Hughie’s phone rang.
He glanced at the screen. Unknown number. Still riding the high of watching Vought take a public beating, he answered without thinking.
"Hello?"
"You happy, you little bitch? Because I’ve got your dad. If you want to see him alive, get your ass home. Come alone. Bring Butcher or any of those other pricks and I’ll splatter his brains all over the wall."
Hughie’s expression froze. "...Who is this?"
He looked around the room and tapped the speaker button.
The voice laughed. "The fuck’s wrong with you? It’s A-Train. Now quit wasting my time. You come alone and maybe your old man walks away. You bring your little gang..." A chuckle. "Then he dies first."
The call disconnected.
Nobody spoke for several seconds.
Frenchie broke the silence. "Our identities have been compromised. A-Train didn’t simply call Hughie — he knew there was a group and specifically warned him not to bring them."
M.M.’s face tightened immediately. He rubbed a hand over his face. "If Hughie’s blown, it won’t take long before they find me." His thoughts went straight to Janine. "If they get my name, they get my family."
Butcher’s expression hardened. "They found us faster than I expected."
"How?" Hughie asked.
"Doesn’t matter right now. We figure that out later." He turned toward Mark. "You’re going with Hughie."
Mark nodded. "If A-Train’s there?"
Butcher didn’t hesitate. "You know what to do." He grabbed his coat. "I’m going to see Raynor. She promised protection if this ever happened. Vought gets our names, our families become targets. We don’t wait for them to make the first move."
M.M. gave a slow nod. He didn’t like depending on the CIA, but Butcher was right.
For the first time since they’d started hunting Vought, the fight had become personal for every one of them.

At Hughie’s house,
Hughie rushed into the living room and found his father on the couch, shaken but unharmed.
"Dad — are you okay?"
"Yeah, I’m fine." His father looked at him with obvious confusion. "Hughie... who are these people?"
A slow clap echoed through the room.
A-Train stepped out from the hallway with a grin. "You actually came."
Hughie moved immediately in front of his father. "I came. Let him go."
A-Train laughed. "You know, you should’ve stayed down, you little bitch." He walked forward, smile fading.
"I killed your girlfriend. It was an accident — she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. That should’ve been the end of it." His jaw tightened. "But you couldn’t let it go. You and your little gang dragged Popclaw into this. Because of you, she’s dead."
He jabbed a finger into Hughie’s chest. "You killed her."
Hughie clenched his fists. "You murdered her yourself."
A-Train’s expression darkened for a moment before he forced another smile. "Believe whatever helps you sleep at night." He looked past Hughie at his father.
"So now it’s your turn to lose someone. I’m gonna kill him. Right in front of you." He leaned in close.
"And don’t bother hoping Butcher’s gonna save you. Homelander already knows about your little group. Every one of you is finished." A cruel grin. "But you... you’re mine."
Hughie swallowed hard but didn’t move.
Then a blur shot out from the kitchen.
CRACK.
The iron pipe slammed into A-Train’s leg. The sharpened end punched straight through his thigh and burst out the other side, pinning him to the floor. The impact sent him crashing sideways into the coffee table, which shattered beneath his weight.
"AAAGH!"
A-Train clutched at his ruined leg, screaming as blood spread across the floor. When he looked up, Kimiko was standing over him, grip still tight around the twisted pipe.
"You..." Recognition flashed across his face. "You crazy bitch!"
Hughie let out a shaky breath, eyes still on A-Train. "Yeah. I didn’t come alone."
A second figure stepped into the living room. Black hoodie, mask covering his face. Mark walked forward calmly until he stood beside Kimiko.
"Hughie," he said without looking away from A-Train. "Take your dad and get out of here."
Hughie hesitated. "What about—"
"I’ll handle this."
Mark’s glowing eyes settled on A-Train, whose shattered leg left him pinned to the floor.
"I think it’s about time A-Train got his retirement."
