Chapter 70 : Fucked Up
"How can we even believe that?" the host asked. She had spent years doing live broadcasts and interviews. Extraordinary claims needed evidence — nobody was going to accept something this massive based on a stranger’s word alone.
Mark nodded. "Of course you need proof. I’d expect nothing less. If some random guy walked onto television and told you the Earth was flat, you’d ask for evidence before believing him. This isn’t any different."
The tension inside the studio eased slightly. At least he was being reasonable.
Mark stood up, picked up the vial of Compound V, and motioned for the cameraman to follow. "Come with me. I’ll give you proof."
The producer hesitated before signaling for the camera to stay live. Millions of people were already watching — nobody wanted to cut away now.
Mark walked toward the large fish tank near the wall. The host rose from her seat and followed at a cautious distance. "What exactly are you doing?"
"Demonstrating my point." He held up the blue vial so the camera could capture it clearly. "This is Compound V." Without another word, he removed the cap and poured the blue liquid into the water.
The entire studio fell silent. Every pair of eyes remained fixed on the tank.
For several seconds, nothing happened.
Then one of the fish began moving erratically.
The host instinctively stepped back. Another fish suddenly grew larger than the others, its body swelling to nearly twice its original size as metallic plates formed across its scales. A different fish darted across the tank, leaving tiny electrical sparks behind it.
The cameraman nearly dropped his equipment. "What the hell...?"
The reaction spread to the control room. People who had been convinced this was some elaborate stunt now stared at the monitors in complete silence.
The water inside the aquarium started churning. Cracks appeared across the glass. The enlarged fish slammed into the side of the tank — and an instant later the entire aquarium burst apart. Water exploded across the studio floor. The host screamed.
Before the mutated fish could scatter, they suddenly stopped. An invisible force held them in place, floating several feet above the ground while water droplets hung around them.
Mark stood calmly beneath them. "Easy. No need to make a mess."
The fish continued struggling, but none of them could move beyond the invisible boundary. One possessed hardened armor. Another kept producing weak electrical discharges. A third had grown far beyond its original size.
Mark turned toward the camera. "See? That’s your proof." He pointed at the creatures hovering above the floor.
"A few minutes ago, these were completely ordinary fish. Nothing special. Nothing supernatural." He lifted the empty vial. "Now they’re super fish."
Whatever the blue substance was, it had transformed living creatures right in front of millions of viewers. That made Mark’s earlier claim far more difficult to dismiss.
Mark walked back to his chair and snapped his fingers in front of the host’s face. She blinked several times, finally pulling herself away from the sight of the floating fish.
"There is your proof," Mark said.
"That should be enough to destroy all that chosen-by-God nonsense. Supes are made through chemicals." He placed the empty vial on the table.
"And before anyone gets stupid ideas — not every power is good. Some mutations leave people stronger."
"Others leave them barely recognizable as human. If any of you have fantasies about taking Compound V and becoming a hero, give up on them. You might end up as something disgusting and inhuman instead."
Nobody in the studio argued. What they had witnessed spoke for itself.
Mark leaned back in his chair. "Well, that’s today’s truth session."
After a long pause, the host found her voice. "Why are you even doing this? People always have motives."
Mark tilted his head. "Don’t you think it’s funny? One truth, and suddenly an entire society starts distrusting everything it believed yesterday. Heroes, corporations, religion, politics — people build their lives around comfortable lies."
He rested his arms on the chair. "I’m a villain. Causing chaos comes with the territory."
The amusement in his eyes was obvious even behind the mask. "I enjoy tearing apart corporate scams. I enjoy watching powerful organizations panic when somebody exposes the foundations they’re standing on."
"Most of all, I hate massive corporations convincing millions of people that something abnormal is completely normal." He looked directly into the camera. "Vought built an empire by selling miracles. Turns out they were selling chemicals."
The studio remained completely silent.
"So, my dear viewers, goodbye," Mark said. "Perhaps we’ll meet again during another live stream."
The red light above the camera switched off.
Mark stood up and adjusted his hoodie. "Well, I said I was leaving." Nobody attempted to stop him. Only after he walked out of the studio did the employees finally let out the breath they had been holding for the last hour.

Inside Vought Tower, the entire public relations department had fallen silent. Nobody had expected this — nobody had even considered the possibility that someone would walk onto live television and reveal the existence of Compound V to the entire country.
The broadcast had ended less than two minutes ago, and they still hadn’t reacted.
Ashley stared at the television screen. "What the fuck just happened?"
Nobody answered. Lawyers were already shouting over one another. The media team frantically refreshed social media feeds. Executives ran between offices carrying phones and documents.
Then every phone in the room started ringing. One after another, the sound becoming almost constant.
Ashley picked up the nearest call. "Yes?"
The voice on the other end was practically screaming. "Is that fucking true?"
She ended the call. Another came immediately. Then another. And another.
Investors. Senators. Television networks. Corporate partners. Everyone asking the same question.
Is it true?
Nobody inside the room had an answer they could safely give.
One member of the communications team looked at the trending topics. "Oh my God..."
Every single top trend was related to Compound V.

The numbers were climbing by the second.
Ashley grabbed her hair. "Where the hell is Stilwell?"
A lawyer closed his phone. "The White House wants an official statement within the hour."
Another executive turned pale. "Half our sponsors are calling. They all want to know whether this is real."
Today, somebody had dropped a bomb directly onto the foundation of their entire business model. And they hadn’t even been given time to prepare a response.
