THE BOYS: The Wrong Main Character

Chapter 62 : Manners

After that, Annie gave him a tour of Vought Tower.

Mark honestly found most of it uninteresting. Conference rooms, media departments, marketing offices, and carefully arranged public spaces meant nothing to him.

He had no interest in corporate culture, and walking through expensive hallways wasn’t going to change that.

There was, however, one place he genuinely appreciated.

The cafeteria.

The moment he stepped inside and saw the food, his opinion of Vought improved slightly. Professional chefs prepared everything, the ingredients were high quality, and the selection was absurdly large.

Mark had to admit that giant corporations came with certain benefits. Good food was definitely one of them.

Unfortunately, Annie couldn’t stay. She still had preparations and promotional work for Believe Expo, so after showing him around, she left him on his own. Mark didn’t mind at all. He was perfectly capable of entertaining himself.

A few minutes later, he sat down and started ordering.

"I’ll take two steaks, three burgers, four portions of fried chicken, a seafood platter, two large bowls of pasta, six desserts, and whatever your chef recommends as the house special."

The waiter slowed down while writing.

By the end, he looked completely confused, glancing around as if expecting several more people to arrive.

"Umm... sir, is this for a group?"

"No."

The waiter hesitated.

"Will you... actually be able to finish all of that?"

"Yes."

The confidence in his answer left no room for doubt. This was Vought Tower. Supes had strange habits. Maybe this wasn’t unusual.

Mark noticed the hesitation and waved a hand.

"Don’t worry about it. Just bring everything."

"Of course, sir."

The waiter hurried away.

Mark leaned back with a satisfied expression.

Before long, the food arrived. Trays covered the table from end to end. Steaks, burgers, fried chicken, pasta, seafood, desserts, and the chef’s special filled every available space. Even the employees carrying everything looked slightly stunned.

Mark rubbed his hands together.

"Thanks for the meal."

He immediately began eating.

Ever since gaining his abilities, his appetite had changed. His body burned through energy at an absurd rate, and ordinary portions no longer meant much. What could feed several people barely counted as a proper meal for him.

People nearby occasionally stole glances while pretending not to stare. Watching someone casually work through an entire table of food was unusual even inside Vought Tower.

Mark ignored them.

Good food was good food.

A waiter returned with another tray, but while hurrying across the cafeteria, he bumped into someone walking past. The plates slipped from his hands and crashed onto the floor, scattering food across a pair of expensive boots.

Unfortunately, those boots belonged to Deep.

He stared at the mess for several seconds before looking at the terrified waiter.

"Do you have no fucking eyes?"

The entire cafeteria went quiet, though nobody seemed interested in getting involved.

The waiter bowed repeatedly.

"I’m so sorry, sir. It was an accident. I didn’t see—"

"An accident? Do you know how much these boots cost? Do you know who the fuck I am?"

The man’s face turned pale.

"I’m really sorry, sir. I’ll clean everything up right away."

Deep wasn’t interested.

"Sorry doesn’t fix anything. Is basic competence too much to ask for?"

The waiter kept apologizing while Deep unloaded every bit of frustration he’d built up over the past week onto someone who couldn’t fight back.

Then a ceramic plate suddenly flew across the cafeteria.

Smash.

It shattered against Deep’s face.

Silence followed.

Deep staggered backward, more shocked than hurt, and turned toward the source.

Mark remained seated, calmly setting down his fork.

"Leave the poor guy alone. He already apologized."

The waiter froze.

Deep stared at him.

"Did you just throw a fucking plate at me?"

"Yes. Unless you’re blind, that should be obvious. If you want to prove how important you are, come over here instead of yelling at somebody who can’t do anything about it."

The cafeteria fell completely silent.

"S-sorry..." the waiter muttered.

Mark glanced at him.

"Not you. You’ve already apologized."

Deep’s expression darkened.

The last few days had been a disaster. The dolphin incident had spread everywhere, Stillwell had grown noticeably colder, and he could already feel Vought preparing to send him somewhere out of sight until people forgot.

Nobody had officially removed him from the Seven, but Deep wasn’t an idiot.

He understood what was happening.

To him, it felt like the entire world had turned against him.

"Let me teach you some respect."

He grabbed a nearby chair.

"Do you know why I’m one of the Seven? Do you know who the fuck I am?"

Mark didn’t even look at him immediately.

Instead, he turned to the waiter.

"You know who I am, right?"

The waiter nodded nervously.

"Then take a few steps back. This guy looks determined to embarrass himself."

Deep roared and swung the chair.

Mark shifted to the side.

The attack missed completely.

A moment later—

Slap.

The sound echoed through the cafeteria.

Deep froze.

"Manners make the man," Mark said.

Deep turned around, disbelief and anger written across his face.

Before he could say anything—

Slap.

The second hit landed on the opposite cheek.

"Treat people with respect. The guy made a mistake and apologized."

Deep stumbled backward.

The employees watching no longer bothered pretending they weren’t staring.

"You don’t get to make someone’s life miserable just because you’ve got powers," Mark continued. "If you want people to call you a hero, start acting like a decent human being."

Deep charged again.

Slap.

The third strike sent him crashing into the wall.
