The Extra Who Inherited Ragnarok

Chapter 163: No Limit

Noah’s body went still.

The crimson aura surrounding him thickened until it looked almost black. It crawled across his skin, swallowing the blood running down his shoulder.

His head lowered.

Shadowfang slipped from his fingers.

For a moment, the empty space held its breath.

The Watcher raised its twin blades.

HOST RESPONSE: UNSTABLE

The Dead Zone lifted its head.

Noah’s eyes opened.

They were no longer entirely his.

One iris glowed crimson.

The other remained dark.

A crooked smile appeared across his face.

"Finally."

The Watcher attacked.

Dead Zone Noah vanished.

BOOM!

The creature’s blades collided with empty space.

A black streak crossed its chest.

Shadowfang emerged from behind its shoulder.

The Watcher staggered.

Before it could recover, Noah drove his knee into its abdomen.

CRACK!

The impact bent its body backward.

He seized its head and slammed it into the crimson floor.

The entire realm shook.

ANALYSIS: 70%

ERROR: HOST BEHAVIOR INCONSISTENT.

The Dead Zone leaned closer to the Watcher’s face.

"You spent all that time studying him."

It dragged Shadowfang across the creature’s chest.

"Unfortunately..."

Crimson sparks scattered.

"...you studied the wrong half."

The Watcher released a burst of energy.

Dead Zone Noah crossed his sword before his body.

The blast threw him backward.

He landed on one hand, sliding across the ground.

The Watcher rose.

Its body had changed again.

The twin blades fused into a single enormous weapon.

Its three eyes rotated rapidly.

COUNTERMEASURE UPDATED.

TARGET BEHAVIOR: AGGRESSIVE.

PREDICTIVE RESPONSE: ACTIVE.

Dead Zone Noah laughed.

"Better."

The Watcher lunged.

Their weapons collided.

CLANG!

A shockwave tore through the darkness.

The Watcher swung from above.

Noah dodged.

A second strike came from below.

He blocked it.

A third strike cut toward his throat.

He twisted aside, but the blade grazed his neck.

A thin line of blood appeared.

The Dead Zone’s smile vanished.

He caught the Watcher’s weapon with his bare hand.

Crimson energy burned through his palm.

"Three attacks?"

His fingers tightened around the blade.

"You’re becoming predictable too."

He pulled.

The Watcher stumbled forward.

Shadowfang pierced its abdomen.

Noah lifted the creature off the ground.

The Watcher’s eyes flashed.

A crimson beam erupted from its central eye at point-blank range.

Noah’s body twisted away.

The beam tore through his left side and struck the darkness behind him.

For the first time, his expression showed pain.

The Watcher attempted to retreat.

Dead Zone Noah refused to release it.

He grabbed its arm and ripped it apart.

The limb dissolved into crimson threads.

The Watcher recoiled.

The enormous eye beneath the floor opened again.

The unknown voice returned.

"You remain incomplete."

Dead Zone Noah turned toward the eye.

His smile returned, but his gaze was colder.

"Everyone keeps saying that."

The eye narrowed.

"Because it is true."

The Dead Zone raised Shadowfang.

"Maybe."

He pointed the sword toward the Watcher.

"But I’m complete enough to kill this thing."

The Watcher suddenly stopped moving.

Its three eyes turned toward Noah.

NEW CONCLUSION REACHED.

HOST CONTAINS MULTIPLE ACTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS PATTERNS.

The Dead Zone’s expression hardened.

The Watcher’s body began to split.

One figure became two.

Two became three.

Each copy held a different weapon.

Noah stared at them.

"Copying itself?"

The Dead Zone rolled his shoulder.

"Now that’s annoying."

The three Watchers attacked simultaneously.

One from the front.

One from the left.

One from above.

Dead Zone Noah blocked the first strike, avoided the second, and caught the third with Shadowfang.

But the copies adapted instantly.

The first blade pierced his thigh.

The second cut across his back.

The third struck his ribs.

Noah staggered.

ANALYSIS: 75%

The Dead Zone looked down at the wounds.

Then he began laughing.

Quietly at first.

The laughter grew until it echoed across the entire realm.

The three Watchers paused.

Dead Zone Noah lifted his head.

"You made one mistake."

Black-red energy gathered around his body.

"You assumed I fight alone."

The darkness behind him began to move.

A second silhouette appeared.

Then a third.

Each one carried a different shape of Shadowfang.

The Watcher’s eyes widened.

ANALYSIS ERROR.

MULTIPLE HOST SIGNATURES DETECTED.

Dead Zone Noah raised his sword.

"Let’s see how well you handle..."

The three silhouettes stepped forward.

"...an army of bad decisions."

Far away, beyond the crimson realm, Noah’s original consciousness stirred.

He heard the laughter.

He felt the violence.

And for the first time since surrendering control...

he began forcing his way back.

Noah opened his eyes.

Darkness surrounded him.

Not the empty crimson realm where the Dead Zone fought the Watcher, but something much smaller.

A cage.

Black chains stretched across the space, wrapped around his arms, legs, and chest. Every chain pulsed with crimson light.

Beyond the bars, he could see fragments of the battle.

The Dead Zone.

The Watcher.

Three shadowy figures moving through a storm of crimson energy.

Noah pulled against the chains.

"Let me out."

Nothing happened.

He pulled harder.

Pain shot through his body.

MENTAL ACCESS DENIED.

CONSCIOUSNESS RECOVERY: 4%

Noah stared at the system message.

"Only four percent?"

A familiar voice came from behind him.

"You surrendered control."

Noah turned.

The Watcher stood beyond the cage.

Not its enormous body.

Not its three eyes.

This version was smaller, almost human-shaped, with crimson cracks running across its featureless face.

Noah stepped backward.

"You followed me in here?"

The Watcher tilted its head.

"I followed what you concealed."

A chill passed through him.

The creature raised one hand.

Images appeared in the darkness.

Noah’s childhood.

His first encounter with Shadowfang.

The moment Ragnarok’s power awakened.

The first time the Dead Zone spoke.

The Watcher displayed every memory without emotion.

Noah’s fists tightened.

"Stop looking through my memories."

"Your memories reveal structure."

"I’m not a structure."

The Watcher paused.

"That remains unconfirmed."

Outside the cage, an explosion shook the darkness.

The Dead Zone’s laughter echoed through the space.

Noah looked toward the sound.

"What is it doing?"

"Fighting."

"I can see that."

"Then you understand why your resistance is inefficient."

Noah turned back.

"You’re trying to distract me."

The Watcher extended its hand toward the cage.

Crimson threads slid between the bars.

"I am trying to understand the boundary."

The threads touched one of the chains.

The chain immediately began to dissolve.

Noah’s eyes widened.

"No."

He grabbed the weakening chain.

The moment his fingers closed around it, a burning sensation spread through his palm.

CONSCIOUSNESS RECOVERY: 8%

The chain stopped dissolving.

The Watcher tilted its head again.

"You can reinforce the boundary."

Noah pulled the chain toward himself.

"Good to know."

Outside, another shockwave struck.

The cage trembled.

A voice rang through the darkness.

"NOAH!"

Laura.

Noah froze.

He could hear her faintly, as though she were shouting from the other side of a vast ocean.

"NOAH, COME BACK!"

His chest tightened.

The Dead Zone’s voice followed.

"Ignore her."

Noah turned toward the distant battle.

You don’t get to decide that.

"She cannot reach you."

Neither can you, apparently.

Silence.

Noah gripped the chain harder.

The crimson light around it began changing.

From red to deep maroon.

The Dead Zone appeared beyond the cage, its sword resting across one shoulder.

Its expression was no longer amused.

"You should stay down."

Noah faced it.

"Why?"

"Because the moment you return, you’ll feel everything."

Noah looked at his wounded body.

The pain.

The exhaustion.

The fear.

The memories he still couldn’t understand.

The Dead Zone continued.

"And you won’t be able to pretend I’m the only monster inside you."

Noah’s expression darkened.

The Watcher turned toward the Dead Zone.

For the first time, the two entities stood on opposite sides of the cage.

One observing.

One resisting.

Neither looked at Noah.

That realization unsettled him more than anything else.

They weren’t fighting over control.

They were waiting for something.

Noah looked down at the chains.

"System."

COMMAND UNRECOGNIZED.

"Of course."

He closed his eyes.

Instead of pulling against the cage, he reached inward.

Past the pain.

Past the Dead Zone.

Past the crimson door that had always remained sealed.

Something answered.

A deep, distant heartbeat.

THUMP.

The Watcher turned sharply.

The Dead Zone’s eyes widened.

Noah opened his eyes.

A faint golden light appeared beneath the cage.

CONSCIOUSNESS RECOVERY: 15%

The Watcher stepped backward.

The Dead Zone whispered:

"Noah..."

For the first time, its voice carried something dangerously close to fear.

The golden light spread across the floor.

And from somewhere beyond the sealed door, a voice spoke:

"The inheritor is waking."
