Chapter 137 - 100: You’ve Come at the Right Time
He then said, "When you have a moment, write up a simple job posting for me, and I’ll put it on the campus forum. Just list your contact info on it. The resume screening, interviews, and final hiring decisions will all be up to you. I’m a complete amateur when it comes to legal and administrative stuff, so I won’t meddle."
This level of complete trust and empowerment was deeply gratifying to Huang Yiyi, and the corners of her mouth curved into a pleasant smile.
"Okay, President Chen," she replied, then immediately raised a practical question. "Perfect. We can discuss the compensation standard for the interns right now."
"Compensation, huh..." Chen Lin rubbed his chin and asked, "Back when you were at Tiansheng Group, how much did they pay their interns?"
"It was calculated as a daily wage: 120 yuan per day base pay, plus a 30-yuan transportation stipend. The company also provided one free lunch," Huang Yiyi rattled off the numbers with ease.
Chen Lin quickly did the math in his head.
A meal stipend was a must, as the three of them were already ordering takeout for lunch anyway.
But a transportation stipend was unnecessary. Since they were recruiting from their own university, it would take a student a dozen minutes at most to walk from their dorm to the office. A transportation stipend would be a complete waste of money.
However, Yanhai Technology wasn’t a behemoth like Tiansheng Group. It couldn’t rely on its brand name alone to attract countless top students scrambling over each other for an internship.
For his startup to recruit top talent from a prestigious school like Yannan University, he had to make a more compelling offer than the market standard.
Besides, Chen Lin had heard of even more ridiculous industries, like finance and consulting, where many students even had to ’pay to intern’ just to burnish their resumes.
Compared to that kind of unconscionable exploitation, the salary he was offering made him seem like the conscience of the industry.
With that thought, he made his decision.
"Let’s do this," Chen Lin said decisively, looking at Huang Yiyi. "We’ll tentatively set the intern’s daily wage at 220 yuan, which includes a 30-yuan meal stipend. You can set the bar high during the interviews. Be strict—quality over quantity. If you really can’t find a candidate you’re happy with, we’ll just raise the pay and keep recruiting until we do."
"Understood," Huang Yiyi replied crisply, taking note of her boss’s instructions.
That afternoon, just as the workday was ending, Chen Lin’s phone let out a DING from WeChat.
It was a Word document from Huang Yiyi.
He opened it to find a meticulously worded job posting for an intern, with crystal-clear requirements.
He opened his laptop and navigated to the Yannan University campus forum, a site he hadn’t logged into for a very long time.
The moment the page loaded, the message icon in the top-right corner began to flash frantically. Next to it, a bright red [99+] indicator looked like it was about to leap off the screen.
Chen Lin didn’t even bat an eye; he simply ignored it.
It didn’t take a genius to figure out what they were about. The private messages were either from people prying into the rumors about him and Shen Yan, from others who wanted to worship him as the "modeling competition god," or just a bunch of bizarre requests to be "carried" or to make friends.
He didn’t have time to deal with any of that right now.
With practiced ease, Chen Lin found the "Create New Thread" button on the forum’s homepage. He clicked it, copied Huang Yiyi’s job posting, and pasted the text in verbatim. He kept the title simple and to the point: [Yanhai Technology Consulting Co., Ltd. (On-Campus Startup) Seeking One Legal/Admin Intern, Excellent Pay].
’All done. Mission accomplished.’
Satisfied, he closed his laptop, putting all the tedious follow-up tasks like screening resumes and arranging interviews completely out of his mind.
With Huang Yiyi on the case, being a hands-off boss was wonderfully stress-free.
...
...
「The next day, Wednesday, August 20.」
Perhaps because he had been so wound up lately, Chen Lin slept especially soundly after finally relaxing the night before.
By the time he opened his eyes, leisurely got out of bed, washed up, and ambled over to the second floor of the incubation space, it was nearly ten in the morning.
However, the moment he pushed open the office’s glass door, the completely transformed scene before him jolted him awake, chasing away every last bit of sleepiness.
The once vast, empty space had been completely transformed.
Eight brand-new sets of desks and chairs were now arranged in a tasteful, staggered layout, with exceptionally wide and comfortable spacing between them.
On each spacious desktop sat two brand-new, gleaming 32-inch curved monitors with ultra-thin bezels. Beneath the desks, black PC cases gave off a subtle metallic sheen, filling the room with a high-tech vibe.
Huang Yiyi was directing a few technicians from the supplier as they performed the final cable management and system diagnostics.
Meanwhile, Sun Yu was like a curious child, circling a newly assembled computer and looking it over with a face full of amazement, touching a part here and there.
In a corner of the office, a multifunction printer-copier that stood half as tall as a person was already quietly in place.
And on the other side, perched on the windowsill, the chibi-style lucky cat with gold-rimmed glasses silently watched over everything with an expression that said, ’I’ve got this all under control.’
The entire office had been completely transformed. It finally looked like a proper company!
"President Chen, you’re here." Huang Yiyi immediately came over to greet him, a faint smile on her face. "The ergonomic chairs were delivered last night. I had the technicians space the workstations far apart to give everyone plenty of personal space. The computers arrived first thing this morning, and they’ve just finished installing and setting them all up."
"Excellent!" Chen Lin praised sincerely. He walked quickly over to his own workstation and plopped down into the chair.
The brand-new ergonomic chair perfectly contoured to the curve of his back. Its soft headrest and lumbar support provided just the right amount of stability, and it was so comfortable he couldn’t help but let out a contented sigh.
He reached out and gently pressed the power button on the PC case under the desk.
"WHIR—"
With the faint whir of the fans spinning to life, the two massive curved screens on the desk lit up almost instantaneously. A crisp, smooth boot animation flashed past, and in less than five seconds, the new operating system’s desktop appeared before him.
"HSSS—" Chen Lin couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath.
’So this is what top-tier specs can do, huh?’
’I don’t feel like I’m at an office desk. This feels more like a VIP booth at a high-end gaming cafe!’
’Nope, I have to test out this rig!’
Chen Lin rubbed his hands together, expertly opened a browser, and downloaded Steam.
Thanks to the university’s gigabit fiber connection, the familiar blue-and-black interface popped up just a few minutes later.
Chen Lin logged into his account, glanced at his game library, and without a moment’s hesitation, added *Hollow Knight*—the game he was currently "suffering" his way through—to the download queue.
’Let’s see if thrashing bosses feels any smoother on this top-of-the-line rig.’
Just as he was gleefully watching the download progress bar and debating whether he should explore the map first or go straight for a boss fight, a slightly excited voice spoke up beside him.
"President Chen!"
Sun Yu hurried over, clutching a stack of documents. His face was beaming with the kind of excitement a person has when they’ve finally found their tribe. "I’ve spent the last two days going through the list of leads from President Peng, and I’ve actually found one that seems like a perfect fit!"
Upon hearing this, Chen Lin was about to tell him to wait until his game finished downloading. But then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw another figure walking toward them.
It was Shen Yan.
She was wearing a long, pale-yellow cotton dress and holding several thick professional books.
She also noticed Sun Yu, who was about to give his report to Chen Lin. She paused for a moment, her clear eyes blinking, and asked hesitantly, "Am I interrupting?"
Chen Lin watched the scene unfold, inwardly amused.
He didn’t answer her question directly. Instead, he turned toward her, a playful smile touching his lips, and asked, "The company you picked out—do they pay well?"
Shen Yan seemed taken aback, as if she hadn’t expected that question. She considered it seriously for a moment, then nodded. "I looked them up online using the information they provided themselves. Their line of business and their technical requirements are both in the highest value-added sector of the industry. If we can solve their problem, the pay should be very substantial."
The smile on Chen Lin’s face instantly brightened. He gave Shen Yan a crisp wave of his hand.
"Then you’ve come at the perfect time."
