Chapter 133 - 96: The Computer Specs Must Be Maxed Out
Right now, Chen Lin was itching to @everyone in their WeChat group and get Huang Yiyi and Sun Yu to meet up on the second floor of the co-working space immediately. They could pull an all-nighter, hashing out the company’s grand plan for the future!
But the thought only flashed through his mind for an instant before he pushed it down.
Huang Yiyi and Sun Yu had only just finished the process of leaving their old jobs. Huang Yiyi had even come straight to a meeting with him right after returning. He should let them get some proper rest and recharge.
It was fine for him, the boss, to be all fired up, but there was no need to make his salaried employees work themselves to the bone.
He took a deep breath, opened the three-person WeChat group named "Yanhai Founding Team," and typed out a message.
Chen Lin: [@Huang Yiyi @Sun Yu Let’s meet at the office on the second floor of the co-working space next Monday at 9:30 AM for a short meeting to plan out our next steps.]
After sending the message, Chen Lin tossed his phone aside and shot up from the sofa like a spring.
His employees could rest, but he, the boss—the company’s core engine—couldn’t afford to be idle!
He strode into his study, pulled a stack of fresh A4 scratch paper from a bookshelf, and slapped it onto the desk with a THWACK. Then, he grabbed a smooth-writing gel pen from the pen holder.
If the company was going to grow, it all ultimately depended on him, the core technical member, to consistently deliver results.
He decided he would start the grind immediately!
For the next three days, from this afternoon until Sunday evening, he would set aside at least three hours each day to officially begin his research in the area of *Manifold Boundary and Hallucination Control in Generative Models*!
The study instantly fell silent.
All that remained was the crisp, rhythmic SCRATCHING of Chen Lin’s pen tip on the snow-white scratch paper.
「August 18th. Monday, 9:30 AM.」
The historic first all-hands meeting of Yanhai Technology Consulting Co., Ltd. officially commenced on the second floor of the Yannan University Student Co-working Space.
The meeting venue was so empty you could hear an echo.
In the vast, open-plan office, there was nothing but three people.
Chen Lin, Huang Yiyi, and Sun Yu, the company’s three founding members, stood in a triangular formation right in the center of the 500-square-meter office.
"Ahem."
Chen Lin cleared his throat, breaking the slightly awkward silence. He glanced around the room, a satisfied smile spreading across his face as he watched the bright sunlight flood the space.
"It’s a little bare-bones, but we’ll call it the company’s opening ceremony." He clapped his hands and announced, "Welcome to Yanhai Technology’s first and second employees! You’re now officially on board!"
A good-natured smile immediately spread across Sun Yu’s face, and he began to clap enthusiastically.
As for Huang Yiyi, she maintained her impeccable professional demeanor. She simply smiled and nodded, then, as if performing a magic trick, pulled two printed documents from her briefcase.
"President Chen, here are my and Sun Yu’s employment contracts and onboarding forms." She handed a set of documents to each of them. "All the terms are based on the standards we previously agreed upon. Sun Yu, you can look it over again. If everything looks good, just sign, and our company’s personnel files will be officially established."
’Now that’s efficiency!’
Chen Lin mentally gave another thumbs-up to his incredibly capable assistant.
Sun Yu clearly hadn’t expected the onboarding process to be so silky smooth. He took the contract, looking both flattered and surprised, read through it meticulously, and then solemnly signed his name.
Huang Yiyi collected the documents, stored them neatly back in her briefcase, and then seamlessly pulled out her laptop, ready to move on to the next item on the agenda.
"President Chen, since the HR process is now underway, I suggest our next step should be to establish the company’s initial administrative, financial, and personnel guidelines. For example, our attendance policy, reimbursement procedures, compensation structure..."
"Whoa, whoa, hold on."
Chen Lin quickly raised a hand to cut her off, an exasperated look on his face. "Miss Huang, we don’t even have desks yet. All that policy stuff can wait."
He gestured at the empty office. "Our top priority is to get the work environment set up. So, your main task for today is to look into purchasing office furniture and equipment."
Huang Yiyi faltered for a second, then nodded in understanding. With no hesitation at all, she created a new document on her laptop, typed the five words "Office Equipment Procurement List" as the title, and then looked up at Chen Lin, her expression inquisitive.
"Do you have any specific requirements, President Chen?"
"As for requirements, they’re pretty simple." Chen Lin rubbed his chin and began verbalizing his thoughts, while Huang Yiyi’s fingers flew across her keyboard, precisely recording every sentence.
"First, workstations. Let’s configure for eight people to start. The ergonomic chairs don’t need to be fancy, but they must be high-quality and comfortable. Employees will be sitting in front of computers for long stretches, and we can’t have them developing back and neck problems. You two can add anything else you think we’ll need..."
"Oh, right. My workstation—don’t do anything special. Just make it the same as everyone else’s. No need to set me up with a separate manager’s office. It’s pointless. If something comes up, we can all just shout and hear each other."
As Huang Yiyi typed, her respect for this young boss’s pragmatic style grew.
"And now for the most important part." Chen Lin’s tone grew noticeably more excited, and his eyes started to gleam. "The computer specs—they have to be absolutely maxed out!"
He held up a finger, emphasizing each word. "We’re in the information age, and Yanhai is a tech consulting firm. Computers are our primary tools of production! So, the specs have to be top-tier from day one. We’re going straight for the highest possible configuration!"
"CPU, graphics card, RAM, SSD—I want the absolute best, top-of-the-line models you can buy for every single component! The mechanical keyboards and ergonomic mice have to be high-end, too. And monitors! Everyone gets two, standard issue! The bigger, the better!"
The more he spoke, the more excited Chen Lin became, his not-so-secret personal agenda now on full display.
His own laptop, which he’d been using for four or five years, was so laggy it could barely handle a game of ARAM.
Now that he was the boss, he could finally, with perfect justification, get himself—and his future employees—a top-tier e-sports... oh, no, I mean, *office* setup!
’From now on, this office is going to be my personal internet cafe!’
’When work gets tiring, I can just alt-tab out and play a couple of rounds to relax. It’s absolutely perfect.’
Seeing the dead-serious "I’m doing this for the company’s growth" expression on her boss’s face, Huang Yiyi couldn’t help the corners of her lips from curling into an attractive smile.
She didn’t press the issue, simply recording faithfully in her document: [Computer Equipment: Top-tier configuration (specific models TBD), dual monitors, high-end keyboard and mouse set].
After typing that, she looked up and asked professionally, "Understood, President Chen. And as for the procurement budget...?"
"Budget?" Chen Lin waved his hand, his expression full of the swagger of someone who was no longer short on cash. "There’s no limit! Just pick the best stuff you can find. Don’t you worry about the money."
"Understood," Huang Yiyi replied crisply, then immediately lowered her head and started researching prices for office furniture on her laptop.
