Chapter 496: Give Me an Explanation
Long Ao Peak.
Deep underground, inside a dark cavern.
"Senior Prince, please spare me! I can serve you."
The Divine Spirit knelt and begged for mercy, his body trembling like a mouse before a cat.
As it turned out, the Divine Spirit was not a Celestial Divine Martial Artist at all. He was merely a Void God Martial Artist, the weakest among Divine Dao Martial Artists. He had simply fabricated the lie in the hopes that Long Ao would take him away.
And the Prince was a true Celestial Divine Martial Artist.
The Prince had been ambushed by his enemies and had Fallen on Long Ao Peak. Fearing his enemies would find him, he had no choice but to Seal his own Divine Spirit.
With his Divine Spirit damaged, the Prince had been trying to recover ever since, but healing was easier said than done.
It was for this very reason that the Prince, upon sensing the other Divine Spirit's presence, had chosen for Devouring. If not for some unknown reason, the Divine Spirit would have already been devoured and undergone Refinement.
"You're a Divine Dao Martial Artist from the Ten Thousand Beasts Sect?"
"Yes, Senior. I was cast out by the Ten Thousand Beasts Sect and unexpectedly Fallen. Left with no other choice, I sealed myself."
"Why not enter Reincarnation?"
Once a Martial Artist broke through to the Divine Dao Realm, even if they had Fallen, their Divine Spirit could enter Reincarnation. The chances of Rebirth were high, but their Cultivation would have to start all over again.
"Senior Prince, you should know that once a Divine Spirit enters the Path of Reincarnation, there's a ninety percent chance it will simply vanish. Even if we are lucky enough to be reincarnated, our Cultivation must begin anew."
The Prince instantly understood the Divine Spirit's meaning. He nodded and said, "I wonder what the effect would be if I were to devour you."
Hearing this, the Divine Spirit's body began to tremble violently in terror.
He kowtowed repeatedly, begging for his life.
Before a Celestial Divine, the Divine Spirit had no power to resist. After all, a Void God and a Celestial Divine were not on the same level. It was like a child standing before an adult—what resistance could they possibly offer?
"But I've changed my mind."
These words brought the Divine Spirit no joy. Instead, his heart sank. He had no idea what this Celestial Divine Prince before him was planning.
The Divine Spirit didn't dare to ask, nor did he dare to speak.
"Someone's here."
Long Ao, who had just returned to Long Ao Peak, immediately released his aura to try and sense the presence of this mysterious Divine Dao expert.
Long Ao was no fool. He knew perfectly well that if this Celestial Divine Martial Artist truly harbored any hostility toward him or his family, they would have acted long ago. With the power of a Celestial Divine Martial Artist, wiping out him and his family would be an effortless task.
But no matter how he tried, Long Ao couldn't sense any Divine Dao Aura.
Long Ao was well aware that the reason he couldn't sense the Divine Dao Aura was primarily because his own strength was too low. At the Semi-Saint Realm, he wasn't even an ant in the eyes of a Celestial Divine.
"Little friend, since you're here, please come down."
A voice echoed in Long Ao's mind. Before he could even figure out what was happening, he found his body enveloped by a Divine Dao Aura.
The next moment, Long Ao found himself in a dark cavern.
There were only two Divine Spirits in the entire dark cavern. One, of course, he recognized: it was Shanggong Yuan, the so-called Divine Dao Martial Artist from the Ten Thousand Beasts Sect, the very same Divine Spirit he had brought out of Broken Soul Valley in the Imperial City, who had nearly devoured Kuang Ao's soul.
"You are Long Ao, the Dragon Sect Master?"
Long Ao wasn't the least bit surprised that this Celestial Divine's Spirit knew who he was. After all, he and his family had only recently settled on Long Ao Peak. This Divine Spirit had likely been here long before them.
"You may call me Prince. I trust you recognize this one here."
Nodding, Long Ao said, "Senior Prince, I was not aware of your presence on Long Ao Peak, otherwise I would not have moved in. But since this is your territory, I will lead my family away from Long Ao Peak shortly."
"Long Ao Peak? A fine name. Long Ao, I've been quite lonely here for many years. Having you and your family for company isn't a bad thing. You don't need to move away."
Hearing this, Long Ao felt a surge of joy. At this moment, he was completely certain that the Divine Spirit Martial Artist before him bore no ill will toward him or his family. This could actually be a very good thing.
Long Ao was no fool; he certainly understood what a Celestial Divine's Spirit represented. If he could befriend a Celestial Divine's Spirit, then he would have no need to fear the Four Great Forces, even if they were to attack in the future.
Glancing at Shanggong Yuan not far away, Long Ao felt a great deal of scorn. It was obvious Shanggong Yuan had deceived him; he never intended to pass on an inheritance to anyone, but simply wanted Long Ao to get him out.
"Long Ao, please sit."
"Thank you, Senior Prince."
Long Ao didn't stand on ceremony. He found a large rock and sat down, not beating around the bush in the slightest. He got straight to the point, saying, "Thank you for your help this time, Senior. Otherwise, my good brother would have been killed by this man."
"Think nothing of it. While I don't oppose a Divine Spirit achieving Rebirth through possession, what Shanggong Yuan did was indeed dishonorable. Shanggong Yuan, tell me, how will you account for your actions?"
Hearing the Prince's words, Shanggong Yuan cursed viciously in his heart, but given the other's power, he could only be obedient. Otherwise, only one fate awaited him: being devoured by the Celestial Divine's Spirit.
"Senior Prince, after being sealed for so many years, I admit I was desperate to achieve Rebirth through possession. As they say, to the victor go the spoils. Since Long Ao believed me, you can only blame him for being a fool, not me. I wonder, Senior Prince, if you would acknowledge that?"
"I acknowledge it."
Before the Celestial Divine Prince could speak, Long Ao spoke up first.
"I don't deny that to the victor go the spoils. And I admit, I chose to believe you, so I deserved to be tricked. But, Shanggong Yuan, you must remember one thing: you should not have tried to devour my brother's soul. For that, I will settle this score with you. No matter what, you will answer for it."
"Answer for it?"
Shanggong Yuan sneered. In his eyes, a mere World Emperor Martial Artist wasn't even worth a fart. He could crush him with absolute ease.
Mockery, scorn, contempt, disdain—all these expressions flashed across his face. Shanggong Yuan said with a laugh, "If Senior Prince wasn't here to back you up, let me ask you, would you still dare to speak to me like this? When it comes down to it, you're just a piece of trash."
A Provocation Technique.
Shanggong Yuan was no fool. He knew perfectly well that if the Celestial Divine Prince sided with Long Ao, he would be in deep trouble. Therefore, his only option was to use a Provocation Technique, hoping the Celestial Divine Prince would be too concerned with his own dignity to act against him.
Both the Prince and Long Ao, of course, saw right through Shanggong Yuan's intentions. And for that very reason, they both felt nothing but utter contempt for him.
(PS: Congratulations to Prince and Shanggong Yuan for overtaking Qian Wen to become first and second on the fan leaderboard. Xiaojiu is immensely grateful!)
