Chapter 390: Ganging Up
"Long Ao, I have a question for you. How did you acquire this residence?"
Long Ao knew perfectly well what the twenty men intended, but he appeared completely calm on the surface.
"I bought it from Old Drunkard for thirty-five thousand Beast Pills."
Long Ao didn't hide this fact in the slightest. After all, the City of Sin kept records, making it impossible to lie. It was better to be truthful now than to deal with the trouble of being found out later.
Thirty-five thousand Beast Pills?
Of course, none of them believed him. You couldn't buy a residence here without several hundred thousand Beast Pills.
Besides, this was Yu Wenhui's residence. Old Drunkard couldn't possibly have had the authority to sell the property. 'What in the world happened here?'
Although they didn't know what had transpired, the twenty men had a feeling that Yu Wenhui's death was inextricably linked to the person standing before them.
"Long Ao, our partner is missing, and you are the prime suspect. It's only logical that you come with us. Please."
The tone sounded polite, but the powerful auras radiating from the twenty men made their intentions perfectly clear. Long Ao just smiled. He knew all about the city guards of the City of Sin.
'They throw their weight around, bullying the weak.'
'Like dogs borrowing their master's might.'
He didn't have a good impression of the city guards in the City of Sin, but Long Ao knew it wasn't really their fault. After all, the Five Great Emperors hadn't been seen in years. No one even knew if they were alive or dead.
'When the cat's away, the mice will play.'
"I don't have time."
Of course Long Ao wouldn't go. He wasn't an idiot. He knew full well that if he went with them, he would likely never return. After all, Yu Wenhui was dead, and he was living in his house. When it came time to close the case, he was sure the City Management Camp would make an example out of him.
"No time?"
Hearing him say he didn't have time, all of them were stunned for a moment. Then, the twenty city guards burst into wild laughter, as if they'd just heard the most ridiculous thing in the world.
Who in the City of Sin would dare to defy the city guards? And twenty of them, at that! Their combined power was immense.
"Kid, are you looking to die?"
He was just a Celestial Venerable Martial Artist. That's why none of them could figure out what gave this person the courage to refuse them so openly.
In the City of Sin, others might not dare to fight, but the city guards had that privilege. In other words, it was perfectly normal for a city guard to kill someone.
Long Ao gave them a sidelong glance but said nothing.
"Kid, if you don't come with us, we have the right to kill you on the spot."
"Dogs borrowing their master's might."
"What did you just say?" Not expecting him to dare insult them, they were actually intrigued. The twenty city guards didn't attack right away. This was the City of Sin, after all; he couldn't run.
Long Ao's reasoning for this was simple: he wanted to use the city guards to draw out the Five Great Emperors.
According to his original plan, Long Ao had intended to deal with the city guards and then slowly seek out the Five Great Imperial Cities. But upon further reflection, he realized this approach would waste too much time.
If not for the Four Great Forces, Long Ao could have taken his time. The problem was, the Four Great Forces were now poised to strike. No one knew when they would attack the Sect and his family. If he was trapped in the City of Sin when that happened, it would be a huge problem.
Long Ao was almost certain that the Four Great Forces had Void Saint Martial Artists among their ranks. If they dispatched Void Saint Martial Artists, how could the Sect possibly resist?
'Could they rely on just the two Dragon Wolves?'
That was why Long Ao had grown impatient. Even if his own strength couldn't match the Five Great Emperors, he could still perform Array Formation.
Having inherited his master's Array Dao, Long Ao was fully confident he could use arrays to deal with the Five Great Emperors. If he could subdue them, and by extension the entire City of Sin, the benefits for the Sect's development would be immeasurable.
"Long Ao."
"Long my ass! If you want to fight, then fight. If not, then scram! Stop dawdling like a bunch of women." Long Ao's words were incredibly arrogant, showing he didn't give a damn about the twenty men before him. If anyone else from the City of Sin were here to witness this, they wouldn't know what to think.
Someone in the City of Sin dared to provoke the city guards? And it was one against twenty! What was that supposed to mean?
If Long Ao were a Great Venerable Martial Artist or a World King Martial Artist, that would be one thing. At least then his arrogance would have some basis. But the problem was, Long Ao wasn't a Great Venerable or a Realm King—he was just a lowly Celestial Venerable.
Never mind all twenty attacking at once; a single city guard could have easily taken care of Long Ao. That's why the twenty city guards didn't take him seriously at all. They just watched him with faint smiles, the meaning in their eyes perfectly clear.
"Twenty idiots."
"Long Ao, I am now officially announcing that you have violated the rules of the City of Sin. We will execute you without mercy."
As they spoke, two human shadows shot out from among the twenty men. The two Great Venerables attacked viciously, clearly intending to kill Long Ao, not holding back in the slightest.
But while they were fast, they came back even faster. Before they could even see how Long Ao had struck, they were sent flying back. The two Great Venerables were utterly shocked, their faces etched with disbelief.
"So you're a Great Venerable Martial Artist."
There was a fundamental difference between a Great Venerable Martial Artist and a Celestial Venerable Martial Artist. The expressions of all the city guards turned grim, as none of them had guessed he was actually a Great Venerable Martial Artist, not some Celestial Venerable Martial Artist.
"So what if he's a Great Venerable?"
Things had already reached this point. The twenty Great Venerables knew that no matter what, the man before them had to die. Otherwise, they would lose all face.
Two Great Venerables had been defeated in a single move, yet the group felt no shame. Gradually, a crowd gathered around them. After all, it was rare to see twenty Great Venerable City Guards acting together. Everyone was curious to see who could have possibly provoked them.
'A stranger.'
Looking at Long Ao, everyone began to speculate about his origins and identity. They all knew what the city guards represented in the City of Sin. Ordinary people would never dare to offend them.
But there were always exceptions. Just as everyone was speculating, the two Great Venerables who had just been defeated, along with two others, rushed forward. Four Great Venerables ganged up on Long Ao. The onlookers couldn't help but feel utter contempt for these so-called city guards.
Ganging up on a single person like this... everyone broke into a cold sweat for Long Ao. After all, twenty Great Venerables were no joke. Could Long Ao possibly withstand them? Being so outnumbered, no one was optimistic about his chances.
