Chapter 313: Level 3 Long Family
They chatted for a while.
Long Ao thought for a moment, then asked, "Brother Dugu, I heard that Guan Hang was killed by the Law Enforcement Celestial Venerable. What exactly happened?"
Celestial Venerables, super-beings who stood above Earth Venerables.
Long Ao had wanted to take revenge himself, but he never expected Guan Hang to be obliterated by the Law Enforcement Celestial Venerable. Even now, Long Ao had no idea what this Law Enforcement Celestial Venerable was or where it had come from.
Dugu Bai had long guessed Long Ao would ask about this, so he wasn't surprised in the least.
"Brother Long, have you heard of the Four Great Dominators of Kyushu?"
"No, I haven't."
"The Four Great Dominators of Kyushu are the Eastern Emperor City, the West Third Level Long Family, the Southern Netherworld Mansion, and the North Piaomiao Palace."
'A Third Level Long Family?'
Long Ao was surprised to hear that Kyushu had Four Great Dominators, and even more so that a Third Level Long Family was among them.
Others might not know what a Third Level Long Family signified, but how could Long Ao not? The Long Clan had countless branches, divided into nine levels: the Ninth Level Long Family, the Eighth Level Long Family, the Seventh Level Long Family, the Sixth Level Long Family, the Fifth Level Long Family, the Fourth Level Long Family, the Third Level Long Family, the Second Level Long Family, and the First Level Long Family.
Long Ao knew full well that Long Family branches of the Fourth Level and below couldn't really be considered part of the true Long Clan. They just carried the name.
It was common knowledge that the Long Clan was most famous for its Dragon Martial Artists. But one had to ask, had a Dragon Martial Artist ever appeared in a Long Family of the Fourth Level or below?
The Long Clan had a clear rule: only disciples from a Long Family of the Third Level and above were permitted to enter Dragon Valley, obtain a Dragon Companion, and become a Dragon Martial Artist.
If anyone from a Long Family of the Fourth Level or below became a Dragon Martial Artist, they wouldn't be valued by the Long Clan. On the contrary, they would face annihilation.
"Brother Long, the Four Great Dominators fought a war back in the day. All four sides suffered heavy losses and haven't made a public appearance for many years. But who would have thought that the recent struggle between the Ghost King Sect and the Blood Sea Sect for control of the Celestial State would draw out the Imperial City, who then sent a Law Enforcement Celestial Venerable."
Nodding, Long Ao now understood what had happened.
If he wanted to know just how strong the Four Great Dominators were, he only needed to look at the Imperial City, which could casually dispatch a Celestial Venerable. That alone showed how powerful they truly were.
"Brother Dugu, what's the deal with the Imperial City's Law Enforcement Celestial Venerable?"
With a helpless smile, Dugu Bai said, "Back then, all Four Great Dominators wanted to rule Kyushu alone. But with the four of them in a stalemate, it was impossible for a true overlord to emerge."
"Because of this, each of the Four Great Dominators established its own Ghost Sect. The Imperial City Order is the Ghost Sect established by the Imperial City. Anyone who sees the Imperial City Order must obey it. Failure to do so means death, no questions asked."
'What an overbearing rule.'
Long Ao didn't look down on the Imperial City. This world was one where the strong survived and the weak stood aside. Since the Imperial City was able to establish its own rules, there was no doubt it had the power to back them up.
If the Thunder Sect tried to establish a Ghost Sect, one had to ask, did the Thunder Sect have that kind of power?
"To consolidate its position, the Imperial City not only established the Imperial City Order but also formed the Law Enforcement Team. The Law Enforcement Celestial Venerables are an army of Celestial Venerables that police Kyushu. It's truly unexpected that the Imperial City would suddenly appear, and with both the Imperial City Order and a Law Enforcement Celestial Venerable at the same time."
Long Ao didn't care. How powerful the Imperial City was, or whether it showed up, had absolutely nothing to do with him.
As if he thought of something, Long Ao asked, "Brother Dugu, did the Ghost King Sect become a subordinate sect of the Imperial City?"
Nodding, Dugu Bai sighed with emotion. "I'm afraid no one saw this coming. It turns out the Ghost King Sect was backed by the Imperial City all along. No wonder they were so arrogant. The Blood Sea Sect's destruction was rather pitiful this time."
That made sense. Long Ao knew very well that, given Guan Hang's strength, it would have been extremely difficult for the Ghost King Sect to kill him and destroy the Blood Sea Sect unless a Celestial Venerable intervened.
"Brother Long, now that the Ghost King Sect has the Imperial City as its backer, let alone dominating the Celestial State, even ruling all of Kyushu wouldn't be that difficult."
Long Ao nodded. He very much agreed with that point.
"Brother Long, when you caused that uproar at the Blood Sea Sect, a Giant Dragon appeared in the end. If I'm not mistaken, you must be a Dragon Martial Artist, correct?"
Things having come to this, Long Ao didn't hide it any longer. He nodded and said, "I became a Dragon Martial Artist after acquiring the little guy by chance."
Dugu Bai's expression turned extremely grave. "Brother Long, do you know the rules of the Long Clan?"
Long Ao nodded. Of course, he knew the Long Clan's regulations crystal clear.
Within the Long Clan, only those from a Long Family of the Third Level and above were qualified to enter Dragon Valley. If a disciple from a Long Family of the Fourth Level or below became a Dragon Martial Artist, the Long Clan would punish them severely.
Long Ao found this rule incredibly frustrating. The Long Clan had already monopolized Dragon Valley. Did that mean that Giant Dragons outside of the Valley couldn't be claimed by the lower-level Long Family branches either?
But Long Ao understood even more clearly that the Long Clan was far too powerful. A single Third Level Long Family could be a dominator in Kyushu. It was hard to imagine just how terrifying a First Level Long Family would be.
Dugu Bai didn't need to say more; Long Ao already knew what he was worried about.
When he had wreaked havoc in the Blood Sea Sect, Long Qiang's identity had been exposed. If nothing unexpected happened, the Third Level Long Family must have already learned that he was a Dragon Martial Artist. He believed that trouble would soon come knocking, nonstop.
"Brother Long, I don't need to say more. How are you preparing to deal with the Third Level Long Family?"
"I'll face them as they come."
Dugu Bai and Xia Jun were already used to Long Ao's domineering attitude and courage, but they were still very worried. No matter what, the strength of the Third Level Long Family was undeniable. It could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Imperial City. Just thinking about it was enough to know how terrifying the Third Level Long Family truly was.
"Brother Long, if you're willing, perhaps you should lie low for a while. Wait until this blows over."
How could Long Ao not know of their concern? He waved his hand and said, "No need. I'll handle this myself."
Giving Long Ao a deep look, Dugu Bai and Xia Jun both sighed heavily. They knew Long Ao's personality crystal clear. Once he made a decision, he would almost never change his mind. Otherwise, he wouldn't have charged into the Blood Sea Sect alone and fought against the world.
Dugu Bai seemed to want to say something, but he held it back in the end. Just then, Xia Fang appeared before the three of them, his face grave. He said, "Long Ao, you need to leave this place, quickly."
Seeing Xia Fang, the expressions of all three changed drastically. Before they could even ask, Xia Fang said impatiently, "Someone from the Third Level Long Family is here. They're asking to see Long Ao by name."
(PS: My keyboard wasn't working this morning, so Xiaojiu wrote this chapter on my phone. I'm going to buy a new one in a bit. What a pain. Don't worry, everyone, Xiaojiu will do my best to update as quickly as possible.)
