Chapter 254: Huo Teng's Tragedy
Long Ao knew full well that Long Potian was extremely wary of the Celestial Dog.
This made Long Ao grow quite expectant of the Celestial Dog's Secret Technique.
Before the Celestial Dog arrived, Long Ao began to carefully survey the valley. It was surrounded by mountains on all four sides, a place of scenic beauty. No matter how he looked at it, it didn't seem like a tomb.
The ancient war was mostly the stuff of legends, as no one had witnessed it firsthand.
However, one couldn't dismiss it entirely. As the saying goes, where there's smoke, there's fire.
Inside the Dragon Seal Space.
"Long Fu, can you sense the Martial Artist tombs within this valley?"
"Yes. No fewer than several thousand."
Long Ao had only asked casually, but upon hearing Long Fu's words, his heart trembled. Tombs of several thousand Martial Artists? Didn't this prove that the Red Heaven Realm truly was an Ancient Battlefield, and that the very valley he was in held the graves of thousands of Martial Artists?
Overjoyed, Long Ao eagerly said, "Long Fu, if the Dragon Seal Space were to absorb the souls here..."
Before Long Ao could finish, Long Fu interrupted, "Master, the souls here have evolved over thousands of years and are saturated with an extremely heavy resentment. If not for a certain Treasure suppressing them, I believe these souls would have long since emerged to wreak havoc upon the world."
Hearing this, Long Ao was stunned.
One had to understand that the Blood Pool within the Dragon Seal Space was their bane, specializing in the Refinement of souls. If even Long Fu couldn't handle these souls, then he certainly stood no chance.
"Master, you should leave this place as soon as possible."
He nodded. He was well aware of the concerns Long Fu had for him, but could he really leave?
"Long Fu, do you know how to find these souls?"
"Master, what are you planning to do?"
"Nothing, I'm just asking."
Long Fu didn't seem to doubt Long Ao's words. After a moment of thought, he finally said, "Master, the tomb is to the front and left."
Having learned the location of the entrance, Long Ao left the Dragon Seal Space. He didn't tell Long Potian about this. Long Ao went to the spot Long Fu had indicated, and sure enough, there were patterns on the rock wall that were nearly invisible unless you looked closely.
According to Long Fu, to open the Martial Artist tomb, he just had to drip his blood onto the patterns.
If it weren't for the fact that Long Fu couldn't perform Refinement on these so-called souls, Long Ao would have really liked to go in and take a look.
The ancient war was a world-shaking cataclysm, with countless casualties, rivers of blood, and fields of corpses. As one of the Ancient Battlefields, the Red Heaven Realm surely held many powerful Fallen Martial Artists. If he could perform Refinement on their souls, wouldn't it be a huge boost to his Cultivation?
It seemed a terrible shame to give up on these souls.
But when weighed against his own life, Long Ao ultimately chose his life.
"Long Ao, did you find something?"
Shaking his head, Long Ao didn't bring the matter up. Instead, he asked, "Is it possible the Celestial Dog won't show up?"
"I can't speak for others, but I can guarantee the Celestial Dog will come. It enters the Red Heaven Realm periodically to search for Ancient Tombs here. Since it's already on its way into the Red Heaven Realm this time, how could it possibly pass up this opportunity?"
Long Ao calculated the time. An entire month had passed since they entered the Red Heaven Realm. According to the rules of the Kyushu Battle of the Storms, the event would last for three months, during which no one was allowed to leave the Red Heaven Realm.
There was no other choice. Since Long Potian had said as much, Long Ao could only choose to wait.
Perhaps it was a case of enemies being destined to meet on a narrow road. In the end, Long Ao didn't get the Celestial Dog, but instead his enemy, Huo Teng. Coincidentally, Huo Teng was also unable to leave the Red Heaven Realm and had been hiding everywhere, but no matter where he went, he was always found.
In truth, with Huo Teng's power, even if he wasn't among the strongest, he should have at least been able to survive.
But the current Huo Teng wasn't in the right state of mind at all. He was terrified of running into the Xia Army and Dugu Bai. If word of this got out, he would surely be laughed to death.
"Huo Teng, long time no see. I trust you've been well."
Seeing Long Ao suddenly appear before him, along with a stranger, Huo Teng cried out in terror, "You... you... you! Are you a man or a ghost?"
Huo Teng couldn't be sure if Long Ao was dead or alive. Under normal circumstances, after Miao Cheng self-destructed, there was no way Long Ao could have survived. But now, Long Ao was standing right in front of him, alive and well. Even if a million parts of him refused to believe it, the fact was staring him in the face, impossible to deny.
Was Long Ao actually human?
Huo Teng panicked completely. Regardless of whether Long Ao was dead or alive, he had forced Miao Cheng to self-destruct. That alone was a testament to Long Ao's power. He had to ask himself, with his own strength, could he possibly stand against Long Ao?
"Huo Teng, why don't you come over and touch me? See for yourself if I'm a man or a ghost."
Standing to the side, Long Potian said nothing. At some point, he had already moved to block the entrance, cutting off Huo Teng's only escape route.
Long Potian had witnessed the battle between Long Ao and Miao Cheng. Though he didn't know the details of the grudge between Huo Teng and Long Ao, as a friend, he felt obligated to help his friend face an enemy.
Huo Teng was, of course, aware that the other man had blocked the entrance. His expression grew even darker, becoming as ugly as it could possibly be.
"Long Ao, how about we let the grudge between us be wiped clean from this day forth?"
At this point, Huo Teng was finally backing down. Regardless of whether he would oppose Long Ao in the future, right now, Huo Teng was truly and utterly afraid.
Against a monster who could force even Miao Cheng to self-destruct, Huo Teng knew he was no match for Long Ao.
Long Ao sneered. He originally hadn't wanted to completely burn his bridges with the Flame Sect, but Huo Teng had sought him out for trouble time and time again. If he didn't possess Heaven and Earth Mourn Together, he was certain he would be dead already, not standing here now.
"Huo Teng, are you going to kill yourself, or do you need me to help you?"
Long Ao's meaning was simple: no matter what, he was going to kill Huo Teng today. He had to cut the weeds and pull out the roots to prevent future trouble. After all, given Huo Teng's status, Long Ao could easily predict how much trouble he would face in the future if he let Huo Teng go this time.
Miao Cheng was not the most powerful Martial Artist in the Flame Sect. The Flame Sect had Hundred Tribulations Martial Artists, Venerable Martial Artists, and even Supreme Venerable Martial Artists in its ranks. If Huo Teng left here alive, not only he himself, but his entire family would likely be in trouble.
"Hmph. Long Ao, aren't you afraid I'll self-destruct?"
A threat.
At this point, Huo Teng was out of options. He definitely couldn't win a fight, so he could only try to scare his opponent, hoping Long Ao would be intimidated into letting him go.
Feeling that Huo Teng was just a joke, Long Ao remained silent, simply watching him with cold eyes.
"Long Ao, if you kill me, the Flame Sect will not let you go! Even your family will be destroyed along with you!"
