Chapter 252: Survival of the Fittest
In truth, Long Ao didn't want to agree to this.
Offending the powerful Celestial Dog for someone he had just met really wasn't worth it.
Long Potian seemed to see what Long Ao was thinking. He smiled and said, "If you help me kill Celestial Dog, I can promise you one thing in return."
"What do you mean?"
Long Ao was very curious. He didn't understand why Long Potian had chosen him, of all people, and with such confidence. Although he had luckily won his fight against Miao Cheng, that didn't really prove anything.
"Long Ao, let's be frank. If you help me this time, I'll be sure to help you in the future. What do you say?"
Long Ao didn't answer immediately. Instead, he lowered his head and began to ponder Long Potian's words.
Long Potian was a Taoist Ancestor Peak Martial Artist, ranked first on the Chizhou Wind and Cloud Ranking, and famous throughout all of Kyushu.
Long Ao was well aware that while both Long Potian and Miao Cheng were Taoist Ancestor Peak Martial Artists, the gap between them was significant. In fact, Long Potian already had one foot in the Void Hundred Tribulations Realm and could break through to the Void Realm at any moment.
'Having a person like that owe me a favor wouldn't be a bad thing.'
Besides, they both belonged to the Long Clan.
After some thought, Long Ao decided to help. He nodded and said, "Alright."
Showing no surprise, Long Potian said calmly, "Long Ao, I know you're very powerful, but I must still remind you: be extremely careful when you encounter the two from Celestial Dog."
Of course, Long Ao had no intention of being careless.
If Long Potian, the number one expert in Chizhou, was so wary of them joining forces, one could only imagine how terrifying their combined strength must be.
"Long Potian, I have to ask, where are the two from Celestial Dog now?"
"I don't know."
'I don't know?'
Hearing that Long Potian had no idea where the duo was, Long Ao felt utterly frustrated. 'We want to deal with them, but we don't even know where they are? Isn't this ridiculous?'
"Long Ao, while I don't know their current whereabouts, I do know one place they will definitely go."
"Where's that?"
Long Ao was surprised. He didn't know why Long Potian was so confident. 'Could it be that Celestial Dog already told him their plans?'
"Long Ao, do you know what the Red Heaven Realm is?"
"The venue for the Kyushu Wind and Cloud Tournament."
"Wrong. The Red Heaven Realm is an Ancient Battlefield. Legend has it that it's filled with the tombs of powerful experts. Everyone wants to obtain their legacies, but after so many years, no one has managed to uncover its secrets."
An Ancient Battlefield, a place where countless experts have fallen.
Long Ao understood why so many people wanted to obtain an expert's legacy. After all, reaching a certain level through one's own cultivation speed and talent was incredibly difficult. Receiving a legacy, however, was a different story.
Long Ao knew exactly what accepting a legacy entailed.
To put it one way, if you accepted the legacy of a Void Venerable, then no matter how hard you worked, your ultimate limit would be set at the level of a Void Venerable. Most Martial Artists would leap at the chance to receive a legacy, but some didn't care for them at all, because they hoped to go even further on their own.
"Within the Red Heaven Realm, there's a place where someone once found an expert's tomb. Because of that, every so often, the two from Celestial Dog enter the Red Heaven Realm to check it out, hoping to obtain a powerful legacy."
Long Ao gave a wry smile. 'The two from Celestial Dog are certainly persistent.'
"Are you saying that since the two from Celestial Dog are participating in the Kyushu Wind and Cloud Tournament, they'll take the opportunity to visit that place?"
Nodding, Long Potian seemed very confident. "It's not just an opportunity, it's a must for them. So, as long as we go to that place, we will definitely find them."
Things having come to this, Long Ao knew he had no other choice.
"When do we leave?"
"Immediately."
Long Ao nodded without the slightest hesitation. The two of them set off toward a specific location in the Red Heaven Realm.
Along the way, seeing Long Potian's hesitant expression, as if he wanted to say something but was holding back, Long Ao asked in confusion, "Long Potian, if you have something to say, just say it. There's no need to hesitate."
Long Potian gave an embarrassed laugh. "Long Ao, I saw your life-and-death battle with Miao Cheng. I also heard people say that the Martial Arts you used was a Self-Created Martial Skill. Is that true?"
Long Ao had no intention of hiding it.
Seeing Long Ao nod in admission, Long Potian's heart skipped a beat. He knew exactly what it meant for someone to create their own martial skill—especially a powerful one.
On that point alone, Long Potian knew he was inferior to Long Ao.
"Long Ao, your talent is the greatest I have ever seen. If nothing unexpected happens, once word of this reaches the Third Level Long Family, they will send someone to find you very quickly."
"The Third Level Long Family?"
Long Ao was, of course, familiar with the Third Level Long Family that Long Potian mentioned.
The Long Clan was a renowned super-power on the Celestial Martial Continent. The Six Great Sects of the Celestial State were no match for them at all. Dragon Valley alone was enough to look down on the entire continent.
"That's right, the Third Level Long Family."
Long Potian thought for a moment before continuing, "Long Ao, I don't need to tell you how powerful the Long Clan is; I'm sure you already know. Let's not even talk about the First and Second Level families. The strength of the Third Level Long Family alone is beyond our imagination. To put it simply, with your talent and potential, you would definitely be cultivated as a key member if you were to enter the Third Level Long Family."
"Would the Third Level Long Family even look twice at us?"
Long Ao knew very well that although the Long Clan had countless branches and a rigid hierarchy, the High-Level families had always looked down on the Low-Level ones. Otherwise, why were the Low-Level families completely insignificant, always stuck at the very bottom?
It was just like the Red Fire Town Long Family. If it weren't for his own rise, his family would still be a minor clan that any random expert could come and humiliate at will. 'When,' he wondered, 'has the Long Clan ever cared about that?'
Seemingly guessing Long Ao's dissatisfaction, Long Potian sighed deeply and said, "Long Ao, I know you're unhappy. To be honest, I used to think the same way you do, but I've come to understand things now."
"It's survival of the fittest. This world has always revered strength; it's a dog-eat-dog world. No one is willing to sympathize with the weak; they only worship the strong. The Long Clan may be powerful, but it has too many branches. If the clan had to look after every single one, it would soon fall into decline. That's the law of survival. Since we live in this world, we have to abide by its laws."
