War God Long Ao

Chapter 157: Nine Nether Spider

Long Ao didn't waste words. He already knew Long Yili's purpose, so saying more would be pointless.

Since he wasn't going in anyway, Long Ao didn't believe Long Yili would dare to come out.

Long Ao was no fool. He knew that Long Yili was certainly wary of him. Otherwise, he would have come out.

Just as Long Ao suspected, Long Yili was indeed very wary. After all, back when Long Ao was only a Unity Martial Artist, he had managed to trigger a Thunder Tribulation while under the oppressive aura of a Transformed Martial Artist. Not only had he successfully overcome the tribulation, but he had also gravely wounded Ouyang Zhong.

It was for this very reason that Long Yili didn't dare to step out of the cave. Furthermore, inside were two drops of Divine Dragon Blood—a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that Long Yili would surely not give up easily.

After waiting for a full minute, Long Ao started walking again and stepped into the cave.

When no attack came, Long Ao knew that between him and the two drops of Divine Dragon Blood, Long Yili had ultimately chosen the two drops of Divine Dragon Blood.

Without the slightest hesitation, Long Ao quickened his pace and headed deeper into the passage. The tunnel was incredibly long, and after sprinting for some time, he finally saw a glimmer of light.

His heart leaped with joy. Long Ao reached the end of the passage and looked at the enormous cavern before him. He didn't step in immediately, an expression of utter shock on his face instead.

The entire cavern was immense and filled with cobwebs. Blood-red webs crisscrossed everywhere, emitting a bizarre aura that rushed toward him.

"Long Ao, hurry and save me!"

Long Yili, who had just entered the cavern, was tightly bound by a huge spiderweb. Even his strength was being completely suppressed.

"Long Ao, if you save me, the two drops of Divine Dragon Blood are all yours! I won't take a single drop."

"You brought this on yourself."

Long Ao chuckled. According to their original agreement, they were supposed to come to the cavern together and take one drop of Divine Dragon Blood each, but Long Yili had gone back on his word.

Just as Long Ao said, Long Yili had brought this upon himself.

"Long Ao, if you're willing to help me, I'll tell you a secret about Dragon Martial Artists. What do you say?"

'A secret about Dragon Martial Artists?'

It would be a lie to say he wasn't tempted, but Long Ao still chose not to help. The reason was simple: Long Yili was too treacherous. Who knew if he'd turn around and attack Long Ao right after being saved.

"Long Ao, the Long Clan has a secret concerning Dragon Martial Artists. If you can obtain it, you'll be able to achieve the Unity of Man and Dragon, and your strength will be compounded. Just think about what that means!"

'Unity of Man and Dragon?'

'Powers compounded?'

Long Ao knew exactly what Long Yili meant. The Unity of Man and Dragon, compounded powers—that alone was enough to tempt him. But Long Ao didn't believe him just yet. After all, who knew if Long Yili was telling the truth?

Tightly bound by the spiderwebs, Long Yili was desperate to get away. "Long Ao," he said urgently, "the secret to the Unity of Man and Dragon is on me! Come and get it."

"Long Yili, let me give you some advice: just give up. This is all your own doing. No matter what, I will not help you."

Completely ignoring Long Yili, Long Ao began to survey his surroundings. The entire cavern was filled with blood-red spiderwebs. Each strand was like part of a giant, gaping maw, ready to devour everything.

Just then, a terrifying, bloodthirsty aura instantly enveloped the entire cavern. Startled, Long Ao looked toward the deepest part of the cave and saw two suns suddenly light up. They glittered with golden light, yet radiated a bloodthirsty gaze.

'What is that thing?'

Trapped in the webs, Long Yili cried out in alarm and immediately released his Dragon Companion. As a Dragon Martial Artist, he would normally never dare reveal his identity.

An earth-yellow Giant Dragon over three meters long appeared. But just as Long Yili's confidence surged, the Earth Dragon was instantly entangled in the webs. It was so thoroughly suppressed by the bloodthirsty aura that it couldn't even move.

It wasn't just Long Yili; even Long Ao was utterly shocked. This mysterious creature was also a terrifying existence.

Even now, he had no idea what was in the depths of the cavern. All he could see were two enormous, blood-red eyes that looked incredibly bizarre.

"Long Ao, save me!"

Long Ao was no fool. Why would he save an enemy in a situation like this? At that exact moment, the two blood-red eyes shot out two beams of bloody light, enveloping Long Yili and the Earth Dragon.

"AARGH!"

As a bloodcurdling scream rang out, Long Ao's expression grew even grimmer. He could finally see the creature in the cavern's depths clearly: a blood-red spider the size of a small mountain, with eight sharp, bladed legs.

Before Long Ao could even grasp the situation, a terrifying, bloodthirsty aura enveloped him. Immediately after, several blood-red strands of web snagged his feet and dragged him into the cavern.

Long Ao was not one to sit and wait for death. Wielding his Blood-Drinking Mad Saber, he instantly unleashed a flurry of Sword Auras. The auras were infused with Thunder Tribulation Power, which happened to be the perfect counter to the bloodthirsty atmosphere.

Because of this, the blood-red spider cried out in pain and retracted its web. Seizing the opportunity, Long Ao spun around, landed quickly, and ducked into a recess in the cavern wall.

Struck by the Thunder Tribulation Power, the blood-red spider roared in fury. It vented all its anger on Long Yili and the Earth Dragon. Even though Long Yili was a Transformed Martial Artist and a Dragon Martial Artist, the Blood-colored Spider's power was simply too overwhelming. Without even a chance to resist, Long Yili was swallowed whole, and the Earth Dragon became the spider's next meal.

Hiding in the cavern wall, Long Ao watched Long Yili and the Earth Dragon get eaten and cursed inwardly. 'I've been completely screwed this time. Not only did I fail to get the two drops of Divine Dragon Blood, but I also ran into such a powerful Spirit Beast.'

At that moment, Long Ao began to question the Treasure Map's purpose. 'Was this intentional?'

"Master, you're actually quite lucky."

'I'm lucky?'

Completely bewildered and unsure what Long Fu meant, his soul entered the Dragon Seal Space. He got straight to the point, "Long Fu, what do you mean by that?"

"Master, there's something you don't know. The Spirit Beast in this cavern is called the Nine Nether Spider. It is a natural enemy of the Dragon Race—their feud is to the death. I just sensed that this Nine Nether Spider's strength should be at the Taoist Peak."

'Taoist Peak?'

Long Ao certainly knew what Taoist Peak implied. Of the Five Transformations, Taoist Peak was the absolute Peak Realm. He never would have imagined that the Nine Nether Spider outside was actually at the Taoist Peak level of strength.

Now Long Ao finally understood why Long Yili had been devoured by the Nine Nether Spider without even a chance to fight back.
