Chapter 64: A Little Snake?
Long Zhi and Long Ming were, after all, from the same family. If there had been only one Dragon Egg, they might have turned on each other, but with two, the outcome was predictable.
Long Ao, of course, wouldn't let this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity slip by. Obtaining a Dragon Egg meant an eighty percent chance of gaining its recognition and eventually becoming a Dragon Martial Artist.
「Celestial Martial Continent.」
It was common knowledge that while Giant Dragons were incredibly powerful, their eggs had no offensive capabilities whatsoever.
Winning the recognition of a full-grown Giant Dragon was extremely difficult. The easiest path was to gain the approval of a Dragon Egg.
Even before securing the Dragon Eggs, the three of them were already locked in combat. It was a chaotic back-and-forth. Pitting one against two, Long Ao's strength was no match for their combined power.
Even though he was outmatched, Long Ao fought them desperately. He was a step faster than both of them, allowing him to snatch one of the Dragon Eggs from the ground and retreat, leaving the other one behind for them.
Long Zhi and Long Ming's expressions turned incredibly ugly. Long Ming picked up the sole remaining Dragon Egg and said coldly, "Long Ao, there will be plenty of chances to get a Dragon Egg. I suggest you hand over the one in your possession. If you do, I can overlook what just happened."
Long Ming and Long Zhi were no fools; they knew the importance of a Dragon Egg. Who knew if they would get another chance after losing this one?
"Long Ao, hand over the Dragon Egg right now!"
Long Zhi wished he could just go up and snatch it from him, but he was well aware that his own strength was no match for Long Ao. However, with his second brother by his side, he was filled with confidence.
'Hand over the Dragon Egg?'
Long Ao stared coldly at the two men opposite him, his face a mask of contempt.
Without another word, he squeezed out a drop of his Life Essence Blood and let it fall squarely onto the Dragon Egg.
"Long Ao, you're courting death!"
Seeing him drip his Life Essence Blood onto the egg, Long Ming and Long Zhi were both horrified. Once the Life Essence Blood was absorbed by a Dragon Egg, the egg would belong to Long Ao unless he had Fallen. Even if they managed to get it back, it would be useless to them.
"Long Zhi, Long Ming, I'd advise you not to do anything rash. If we fight, what do you think the odds are of you holding onto that Dragon Egg in your hands?"
The two brothers' faces were grim as they stared daggers at him, yet they didn't dare to make a move.
Just as he said, if a fight broke out, they weren't completely confident they could protect the Dragon Egg in their possession. But they couldn't bear the thought of losing a Dragon Egg for nothing.
"Second Brother, I want that Dragon Egg."
Waving his hand dismissively, Long Ming, who also seemed a bit worried, quickly dripped his own Life Essence Blood onto his Dragon Egg. Only then did he truly feel at ease.
"Long Ao, are you really that stupid, or are you just pretending? You came with us into Dragon Valley merely to assist us. Did you actually think you could get a Dragon Egg for yourself?"
"I don't know about that. All I know is that when Senior Long Ying allowed me to enter Dragon Valley, he didn't place any restrictions on me. There were two Dragon Eggs, and I left one for you. That's more than generous. Don't push your luck. Be careful you don't lose the prize in your hand while trying to grab mine."
"Hahaha!" Upon hearing this, Long Ming burst into laughter, a sound filled with contempt, as if he had just heard the most ridiculous thing in the world.
CRACK, CRACK.
Just then, the shells of the Dragon Eggs in both Long Ming's and Long Ao's hands began to crack. Seeing this, both of them were overjoyed. As for Long Zhi, his face was a picture of misery. After all, the three of them had entered Dragon Valley together, but he was the only one who hadn't gotten a Dragon Egg. He could only watch as the eggs in their hands slowly broke apart, about to reveal the baby dragons within.
In less than three minutes, the shells of both Dragon Eggs had completely fallen away, and the small creatures inside slowly wriggled out.
'Head of a camel, eyes of a demon, ears of an ox, antlers of a deer, neck of a snake, belly of a clam, scales of a carp, claws of an eagle, and paws of a tiger, its body covered in scales... So this is a Giant Dragon?'
Staring at the fiery-red Giant Dragon in his hands, Long Ming was ecstatic, almost crying out in surprise. "It's a Fire Dragon! Hahaha, a Fire Dragon! I've finally obtained a Fire Dragon as my companion! I'll definitely become a Fire Dragon Warrior in the future!"
Long Ao was also astonished to see that the other man's Dragon Egg had hatched a Fire Dragon. Within Dragon Valley, the Fire Dragon was considered a relatively powerful species.
But at this moment, Long Ao's face was filled with misery and helplessness.
'What is this thing?'
Looking at the little creature that had just hatched in his hand... it wasn't just Long Ao; even Long Zhi and Long Ming seemed taken aback. Suddenly, Long Zhi and Long Ming burst out laughing, their laughter thick with ridicule.
Long Ming's Fire Dragon had the head of a camel, eyes of a demon, ears of an ox, antlers of a deer, neck of a snake, belly of a clam, scales of a carp, claws of an eagle, and paws of a tiger, its body covered in scales. But a look at the so-called "dragon" in Long Ao's hands revealed it was just a small, pure black snake. That's right—a little snake.
"This is killing me! Holy hell, it's not a Giant Dragon, it's a... let me see, what is this? A snake?"
"You're right, Second Brother, it's a little snake." Seeing that Long Ao's Dragon Egg had hatched a snake instead of a Giant Dragon, Long Zhi felt his own disappointment ease.
Completely ignoring their mockery and contempt, Long Ao stared at the little snake in his hands, feeling utterly speechless. He just couldn't understand it. The other guy had hatched a Fire Dragon, so why had his own egg produced a little snake?
'A little snake?'
If he wanted a little snake, he didn't need to risk his life coming to Dragon Valley. He could find little snakes everywhere outside.
'Throw it away?'
For some reason, as he watched the little snake squirming in his hand, Long Ao felt a strange bond forming with it. It was as if he was seeing a reflection of himself from the past ten years. A little snake... in this vast Dragon Valley, it would surely face endless mockery and contempt.
"Since fate brought us together, we'll be companions from now on. So what if you're a little snake? I will protect you." Gently stroking the little snake in his hand, Long Ao's expression was one of nothing but affection and resolve.
Watching Long Ao, Long Zhi and Long Ming were completely dumbfounded. They thought he must have lost his mind. He clearly knew it wasn't a Giant Dragon, just a little snake, so why didn't he throw it away? It even looked like he intended to cherish it for life.
"Long Ao, in light of your shameless behavior just now, we will officially be going our separate ways from this moment on. But remember this: don't even think about trying to steal any more Dragon Eggs from us. If you do, you'll die a horrible death."
"As if you could stop me." Long Ao, of course, had no intention of continuing on with them. Even before this incident, he had been constantly on guard, never knowing when they might suddenly turn on him. While he was wary of Long Ming's power, Long Ao wasn't afraid. The worst-case scenario was a fight. Even if he wasn't their match, he was confident he could still make a clean getaway.
