Chapter 60: A Meeting Between the Strongest in Lei Province
The Abbot had a point. They had acted rashly after hearing of the Great Battle Buddha's death.
But they were unwilling to accept it and said through gritted teeth, "As Battle Buddhas, we have always followed the Great Battle Buddha. We have never retreated, no matter the enemy!"
"Now that the Great Battle Buddha has fallen, how can we tolerate that man roaming free!"
The Abbot's expression was calm as he shook his head slightly. "The Vajra Temple has only you seven Battle Buddhas. Now, more than half of you are gone. Any more losses will shake the very foundations of our temple."
"This Ye Chen is no ordinary person. To have such strength at such a young age... he most likely harbors a world-shaking secret!"
After speaking, the Abbot slowly rose. His slender frame seemed to contain an utterly terrifying power.
As his cloudy eyes opened and closed, a surging Buddhist light swirled in their depths.
A sacred and vast aura rapidly spread throughout the temple, causing the expressions of countless Monks to change in alarm!
"Abbot, can it be that you intend to..."
The few remaining Battle Buddhas below suddenly looked up, shock filling their eyes.
It had been countless years since the Abbot had last left the mountain.
'Could it be that this time, he's going to personally descend the mountain to deal with Ye Chen?'
Suddenly, the sky outside the Vajra Temple rapidly darkened.
Thick bolts of lightning erupted from deep within the clouds. Deafening thunderclaps echoed as a vast, heavenly might seemed to descend, leaving many people bewildered and alarmed.
"What's going on?"
"Why did the sky change so quickly?"
Under the astonished gazes of countless Monks, a streak of light flashed across the horizon.
A figure, treading on lightning like a descending thunder god, slowly materialized before everyone's eyes.
"So, you old codger, are you finally planning to descend the mountain yourself?"
The figure was bathed in monstrous lightning, and his deep voice shook the entire Vajra Temple!
Many of the weaker Monks felt themselves grow dazed.
"Hm?"
The Abbot raised his eyes and gazed at the figure atop the lightning, whose aura was incomparably terrifying. His brow furrowed slightly.
"Why have you come?"
the Abbot asked slowly, his voice hoarse.
"If I hadn't come, that kid Ye Chen would have turned the world upside down by now!"
High in the sky, the lightning surrounding the imposing figure finally dissipated, revealing his face.
"That's..."
"The Lord Governor of Lei Province!!!"
For a moment, the sound of sharp intakes of breath rose and fell throughout the temple.
Even the expressions of the Battle Buddhas, whose Buddhist light could shake the world, turned grave as they felt an immense pressure.
Before the Governor, no matter how powerful they were, they were as insignificant as a small boat in a raging storm.
They could capsize at any moment under that terrifying heavenly might, swallowed by the boundless depths of the sea!
No one had expected that the man publicly acknowledged as the most powerful person in Lei Province would suddenly grace the Vajra Temple with his presence!
After all, the Vajra Temple and the Provincial Government had always kept to themselves.
"So? Do you want to talk?"
Facing the terrifying figure in the sky with his overwhelming aura, the Abbot's expression remained largely unchanged.
A faint golden light flowed around his body, seemingly forming an invisible barrier that completely blocked the endless heavenly might outside the temple.
"Then let's talk."
The Governor gave the Abbot an indifferent glance.
The next moment, his body transformed into a flash of lightning and shot toward the distant horizon.
Seeing this, the Abbot simply let out a soft, cold snort, then also transformed into a brilliant streak of golden light, following closely behind the Governor.
His speed appeared to be in no way inferior to the Governor's!
Inside the Vajra Temple, all the Monks were left speechless.
...
The Abbot followed the Governor to a bamboo forest.
A gentle breeze stirred, and the sea of bamboo billowed like waves. RUSTLE. RUSTLE.
In a clearing in the middle of the bamboo forest, a figure was sitting cross-legged.
It was a middle-aged man!
He looked majestic and martial, a terrifying aura surging from his body, as if he were quietly waiting for something.
Suddenly, he opened his eyes and looked up at the sky.
Two streaks of light, one after the other, landed before his eyes.
The Abbot's brow furrowed slightly. "I didn't expect you to be here as well."
"The Patriarch of the Lei family, Lei Wanjun!"
Hearing this, the middle-aged man slowly rose. He retracted his aura, appearing no different from a mortal.
In truth, however, the terrifying glint in the depths of his eyes was something no one would dare to underestimate.
"I only came at the Governor's invitation," Lei Wanjun said faintly.
"Is that so?"
The Abbot nodded slightly and looked at the Governor beside him. "To think you even brought the Patriarch of the Lei family. My humble temple cannot accommodate two great personages such as yourselves."
The Governor's expression was cold. He ignored the Abbot's jab.
After a moment of silence, he suddenly asked, "That Ancient God Order... has Ye Chen already gotten his hands on it?"
"The Ancient God Order?" Lei Wanjun's brow furrowed.
The Abbot let out a long sigh. "Most likely. My seal has been broken. Whatever was inside should now be in Ye Chen's hands."
"Hmph!"
The Governor snorted coldly. "Back then, to prevent me from coveting it, you actually went so far as to place such a precious item in one of your subordinate's Storage Rings."
"And look what happened. All our efforts were for nothing, and neither of us got a thing."
His face held a trace of mockery.
But the Abbot wasn't annoyed. "The Ancient God Order is of great importance. Who knows if the Lord Governor might have had some crooked ideas? Naturally, I had to take precautions."
"As for it falling into Ye Chen's hands... that's no great disaster. If it comes to it, I'll simply take action personally and get it back."
"Or are you saying, Lord Governor, that you plan to act first and snatch the Ancient God Order before I do?"
The Abbot's eyes stared darkly at the Governor.
But the Governor just shook his head faintly. "The Dragon Prison Cave is about to open."
"The Dragon Prison Cave?" A glint flashed in the eyes of both the Abbot and Lei Wanjun.
"That's right."
"The major powers nearby are already stirring, and they've begun heading toward Lei Province."
"I must pay close attention to the developments with the Dragon Prison Cave. How could I possibly have time to fight with you over this Ancient God Order?"
The Governor had a frustrated look on his face. He suddenly turned to Lei Wanjun and asked, "Patriarch Lei, Commander Lei died at Ye Chen's hands. Don't you plan to take any action?"
Lei Wanjun snorted coldly. "I have other important matters to attend to at the moment and cannot get away. As for that Ye Chen... he dared to kill a member of my Lei family. I will certainly not let him go."
"But surely, Lord Governor, you're the one who should be taking action, are you not? All three of your Grand Commanders fell at Ye Chen's hands!"
