The Ultimate Devil's Magnificent CEO

Chapter 178: Bai Zhi Delivers a Message

"You two have been carrying me this whole time?" Zhou Fan's voice was hoarse as he looked at Li Xing, who was standing by his head.

"Yeah, Boss, you're finally awake! We wanted to carry you on our backs, but you're too heavy. We couldn't last long, so we had to carry you like this!" Excitement lit up Li Xing's face when she saw Zhou Fan was awake, but her tone held a hint of grievance as she spoke.

So, the two young women had woven a simple stretcher from branches and were carrying him, one in front and one behind.

"Holy crap, you're finally awake! If you hadn't woken up soon, these two would've gone crazy!" a jarring voice sounded from the front. Immediately after, a very punchable face leaned into Zhou Fan's view. It was Fan.

Although Fan was also seriously injured, he hadn't faced Vermilion Bird directly. So after resting for a while, he was able to barely manage to keep moving.

"Have you two no shame? Two grown men, letting a couple of young girls carry me. I seriously despise you, from the bottom of my heart!" Zhou Fan shot a contemptuous look at Fan, then saw He Yi walking up from behind. He gave them both the middle finger.

"Damn it, I wanted to carry you on my back! But you can ask the sisters if they would even let me. I don't get it. I was their captain before, so why don't they trust me?" Fan said sourly. It sounded like a complaint, but he truly couldn't figure it out.

"I'm fine now, I can get down and walk by myself!" Zhou Fan glanced at the two women and tried to get down as he spoke, but Li Xing and Li Yue held him in place. Helpless, he had no choice but to continue, "I can really walk on my own. If you're still worried, then the two of you can just support me, alright?"

"Where are we now? How much longer until we reach Jiang Province?" Supported by the two sisters, Zhou Fan walked while observing his surroundings. But there was nothing to see besides trees and more trees.

"Based on the time, I'd say we've covered about a third of the way," Fan replied, his joking demeanor gone. Hearing Zhou Fan's question, he glanced at the sky with a solemn expression. "We can't help it; we're all injured and can't move fast. Plus, during the day you were unconscious, we had to keep taking breaks as we walked. Otherwise, our injuries would've gotten worse before we even reached Jiang Province."

'One-third?' Zhou Fan murmured, pondering for a moment as he recalled a map of the area in his mind. Then, he spoke up, "Head straight left up ahead. If I'm not mistaken, there should be a road not far from here. It's remote, but cars should still pass by occasionally."

"Take a car? Aren't you afraid Vermilion Bird will come after us with more people?" Fan frowned, feeling this plan wasn't very sound.

"Not anytime soon. Vermilion Bird has definitely gone straight back to the Capital City. Even if we run into an ambush, it most likely won't be her people. As for Ye Fei, it'll be difficult for him to find any stronger backup on such short notice, unless…" Zhou Fan trailed off and lifted his head to look ahead.

Seeing this, the others also turned to look. In the forest ahead, a figure was running toward them at high speed.

"Don't be nervous. They're on our side," Zhou Fan said, seeing their tension.

Although the others were confused as to how a friendly could be in a place like this, they still trusted Zhou Fan's words and didn't make any rash moves.

A short while later, the person ran up to Zhou Fan's group. Ignoring Fan and the others, they walked straight to Zhou Fan and whispered, "There's an ambush ten kilometers ahead. It's not convenient for me to intervene, so be careful." As soon as the words were spoken, the person turned and ran back the way they came.

The message was brief, but crystal clear.

"Isn't that your bodyguard?" Fan asked, pointing at the figure slowly disappearing in the distance. He then turned to look at Zhou Fan in confusion.

"Just as I suspected. That bastard Ye Fei found Lorne and is working with him." Zhou Fan sighed and looked up at the sky. Though it was pitch-black, it was as if he could see straight through the firmament.

"Lorne? The head of Dark Night? Shit, now we're in real trouble!" Fan was stunned for a moment, then cursed in frustration.

"No wonder she said it wasn't convenient for her to intervene. So if a fight breaks out later, will she help us or them?" He Yi also knew of Lorne, and he was even more aware that Bai Zhi was one of Dark Night's assassins.

That was right. The one who had just run over to deliver the message and then hurriedly left was none other than Dark Night No. 9—also known as Bai Zhi, the bodyguard Zhou Fan had hired for a hefty sum.

Although Zhou Fan hadn't expected her to come and warn him, he knew she had no reason to lie.

"We're going left, now. Change of plans. Slow down. Let's recover from our injuries as much as possible before they find us, lest we're completely helpless when the time comes."

Zhou Fan said in a low voice, taking the lead and heading to the left. Li Xing and Li Yue didn't ask any questions, simply continuing to support him as they walked.
