Chapter 171: Ambushed
"Jiang Province? Double Squad doesn't have many strong members in Jiang Province, so He Yi is pinning his hopes on you, Boss. After all, we have to go back to Jiang Province first!"
After hearing Zhou Fan's words, the two sisters thought for a moment and figured out the truth of the matter, which made Zhou Fan give them an impressed thumbs-up.
Zhou Fan also realized that these two girls weren't quiet by nature. It was just that their way of thinking was often a bit strange, so they didn't have much in common with most people.
And so, the three of them ran for about an hour before gradually slowing down, finally stopping beside a small river.
"The blood is still warm!" Looking at the body that had appeared by the river ahead, Li Xing walked over, checked it, and then looked up at Zhou Fan.
"You two know how to swim, right?" Zhou Fan glanced at the two women, only to see them shake their heads.
"Close your eyes!" Zhou Fan said helplessly. He then grabbed one in each arm, tucking them under his armpits, and jumped straight into the river.
After getting ashore, Zhou Fan tried to put the two women down, but he found they were still clinging to him for dear life, like a pair of octopuses.
"It's safe now, you can let go. Once we're back in Nanjiang City, I'll find a chance to teach you how to swim myself." Zhou Fan patted them both and then gestured for them to head to the left.
"Don't make a move. Wait for me to act first. There are seven of them, about a hundred meters ahead." Zhou Fan looked at the dense forest in front of them and whispered to the two sisters. After seeing them nod, he went on ahead.
In the dense forest, He Yi was carrying the unconscious Fan, whose face was covered in branch-like marks. He looked at the formidable experts eyeing him like tigers stalking their prey, slowly laid Fan on the ground, gripped his longsword, and watched the group warily.
"Gentlemen, if you don't mind, how about you state your identities? After all, you've been chasing me for quite a while." Although He Yi's voice remained calm, he didn't dare let his guard down. Just moments ago, a single one of them had nearly finished him off by the river. If he hadn't taken his one and only Recovery Pill in a moment of desperation, he would have been the one left dead back there.
It was clear that none of these people were weaker than him. 'When did so many experts suddenly appear, and how could I, the captain of Tiger Teeth, not know about them?!'
"You don't need to know. A dead man doesn't need to know that much!" The seven of them were all dressed in black, exuding a faint, murderous aura. With a low shout, all seven charged toward He Yi.
He Yi took a deep breath, glanced at the still-unconscious Fan, and cast aside his reservations, raising his longsword to meet their attack.
In truth, He Yi had his suspicions about their identities, but he was unwilling to believe his own theory.
Zhou Fan had quietly crept near the group and was now assessing the situation. 'Hmm, not too bad. He Yi should be able to hold out for another three to five minutes, no problem.'
Using the dense trees for cover, Zhou Fan silently moved to Fan's side. With a swift motion, he grabbed him and slipped away into the shadows.
Seeing Fan's face covered in branch-like patterns, as if he'd been poisoned, Zhou Fan's expression turned grim. 'Damn it, it's Gu poison. When did this guy get hit with it?'
Suddenly, Zhou Fan recalled the body of the Lingling Daoist he had seen lying in the car on his way here. There had been a similar pattern on his chest.
"Old bastard. You already killed the man, yet you still resort to these insidious tricks," Zhou Fan cursed under his breath. He had already guessed that the Elder Witch was behind this. But he didn't have any silver needles on him, so he had to use his fingers as substitutes. He quickly tapped Fan's chest three or four times in a row, moved his fingers to tap his neck twice, and then slapped him sharply on the forehead.
PHEW!
After completing the sequence, Zhou Fan let out a long breath. It was the first time he'd ever used his fingers as needles. Although it couldn't cure the Gu poison completely, it would be enough to suppress it for the time being.
"Don't talk. See for yourself what's happening." Seeing that Fan was waking up and looked like he was about to speak, Zhou Fan quickly clapped a hand over his mouth and whispered, violently yanking his head to force him to look at the battlefield nearby.
"You ambush them from the right. Try to kill one of them on your first strike!" Zhou Fan instructed Fan, then turned and ran off to the side, disappearing from Fan's line of sight.
Although He Yi was still barely holding on, he was facing seven experts of comparable strength. In just a short time, he had already sustained three or four new wounds.
Staggering half a step back, He Yi was just about to raise his sword to defend when he saw a figure already upon him, a dagger stabbing toward his chest.
He Yi knew that in his current state, it would be nearly impossible to block this attack. So, he abandoned all defense and thrust his own longsword directly at his opponent.
