Chapter 125: Zhou Fan Coughs Up Blood
"You actually have the nerve to show your face? I thought you were dead! What the hell is your problem?"
"Do you have any idea how I've been looking for you almost every single day for the past year? Is this any fucking way to treat a person?"
"If you don't give me an explanation today, I'm going to tear you apart!"
Listening to her resentful words, Fan and Zhang Lei wore gossipy expressions as they watched the woman. She was sitting next to Zhou Fan, her hands clenched around his collar, looking as if even swallowing him whole wouldn't be enough to satisfy her rage.
Chu Qianqian was also completely dumbfounded. Who on earth was this woman, dressed rather fashionably and wearing light makeup, who had just stormed over, grabbed Zhou Fan, and started cursing him out?
'The way she's acting, you'd think Zhou Fan threw her kid down a well or something.'
'Otherwise, why would she be so furious?'
It wasn't just the three of them who were dumbfounded; Zhou Fan himself had no idea what was happening. He carefully sized up the woman, all while dodging the spittle that flew from her mouth as she yelled. After a long moment, he asked cautiously, "Miss, who are you? Do we know each other?"
'Scumbag!'
In that instant, Fan and Zhang Lei cursed him in their minds almost simultaneously. Chu Qianqian did the same, and when she saw the woman's face crumple on the verge of tears after hearing Zhou Fan's question, she wanted nothing more than to kick him to death.
"So you really are a heartless, faithless scumbag who loves to use people and then throw them away! A year ago, we met at that bar right across the street. I was working as an escort, and you gave me three thousand, telling me to spend the night with you!"
Shaking her head as she berated Zhou Fan, the woman slowly continued, "After I agreed, you took me to a hotel nearby. Just when I thought you were like all those other vulgar men, that you just wanted my body, you didn't do that!"
"You took me to see a movie. You gently held my hand while we shared a bucket of popcorn. Then we went for a late-night snack, right here. You gently put food on my plate, wiped the grease from the corner of my mouth, and told me that a girl out on her own should drink less and take better care of herself!"
"Then we walked all the way down this street, and a little girl came up to sell flowers. She said to you, 'Mister, how about some flowers for your girlfriend?' I thought you would refuse, but you actually bought them. When you gave them to me, you even said, 'If only we were just an ordinary couple.'"
"Do you know? You were the first man to silently unlock my heart right when I had given up all hope for love. It had been so long since anyone had treated me like that. Just when I had decided to quit my job at the bar, find a respectable job, and spend the rest of my life with you... you took me back to the hotel!"
"But then... you actually fucking snuck out while I was in the shower! Are you even human? I'm asking you, are you even human?! What was that about? Tell me, what the hell was that supposed to mean?"
The woman seemed to have gone mad. She gripped Zhou Fan's collar tightly with both hands, shaking him forcefully, as if trying to unleash all the resentment that had built up inside her over the past year.
Watching this scene, Fan and Zhang Lei were stunned. Chu Qianqian was stunned too. The other diners at the open-air food stall, drawn in by the commotion, were also stunned after hearing the whole story. A few women were even moved to tears and joined in to curse Zhou Fan as a piece of trash.
Zhou Fan looked to the sky, speechless. 'What a mess.'
At that time, he had just returned to Huaxia. He'd gone to a bar to vent his anger from a betrayal, and that's when he saw this woman. On a whim, he had decided on an act of redemption. He never imagined she would actually search for him for an entire year.
"You're living a normal life now, aren't you?" Zhou Fan lit a cigarette and took a deep drag. "You and I... we were just two strangers who met by chance. That night, I had to leave in a hurry. I had no other choice!"
Zhou Fan's gaze was profound, his words laced with a hint of helplessness, a touch of bitterness, and a shade of loneliness. He slowly reached out his left hand, as if wanting to touch the woman's cheek, but it trembled, and he didn't dare. In the end, he only gently wiped away the tears from her face.
"When I took you back to the hotel, I discovered that my enemies had tracked me down. In order not to involve you, I had no choice but to leave in a hurry. I didn't even have time to say goodbye. I've made you suffer. I'm sorry."
Zhou Fan sighed softly. Bracing himself on the table with one hand, he suddenly burst into a violent coughing fit. Under the worried gazes of everyone present, he hurriedly grabbed a napkin from the table to cover his mouth.
The moment the coughing stopped and he lowered the napkin, a smear of scarlet blood was starkly visible upon it. In the light of the food stall, it was a sight so jarring, so utterly despairing.
