Chapter 46: I Have a Wife
"President Chen, don't be so hasty. Have you seen this shareholder agreement?" Zhou Fan remained as unflustered as ever, leaning back slightly and watching her with an amused expression.
"Is there a problem? My grandfather drafted it, and I've reviewed it!" Chen Yao looked at Zhou Fan, confused, not understanding what he was getting at.
"Do you know this person?" Zhou Fan didn't answer her question, instead pointing to a name on the list.
"Liu Xueyue? Of course I do. She's a vice president at the company and has been with the Chen Conglomerate for over a decade!" Chen Yao was still puzzled. She was very familiar with every name on this list.
Besides, the list wasn't long—only ten people, including her grandfather, herself, and her older brother, Chen Feng.
"I seriously wonder how you've made it this far. You're a president, too. If my wife saw this list and heard me single out this person, she would've guessed something was wrong ages ago. And yet, you haven't noticed a thing!" Zhou Fan looked at Chen Yao as if she were an idiot. He suddenly wondered if the partner he'd chosen was a complete fool.
"Don't glare at me. Open your eyes and look at the list. Your shares and your grandfather's combined only add up to forty-five percent. The others' shares far exceed yours. The one who stands to gain the most in the end will be this Liu Xueyue!"
Zhou Fan swore that if the Chen Family weren't useful to him, he really wouldn't want to waste another word on this woman. 'She's so stupid. How can a president be this stupid?'
"Hmph, and here I was wondering what you were going to say. My grandfather and I noticed that long ago. So she used a few tricks to get her hands on ten percent of the Chen Conglomerate's shares? So what? Don't forget, besides my grandfather and me, my brother Chen Feng is on this list, too. He also has ten percent!"
Chen Yao looked as if she had everything under control. Confidently, she picked up her coffee and took a delicate sip. 'And to think I was just racking my brain trying to figure out his angle!'
Now it seemed that whatever Zhou Fan was planning was pointless.
"Are you so sure, President Chen, that Chen Feng will be on your side?" Zhou Fan smiled playfully and slowly stood up. "Remember that phone call from before. You can call me if you need anything. But remember to come with an offer that satisfies me."
With that, Zhou Fan turned and left with a cool air, leaving Chen Yao alone, frowning.
「Back at the company.」 Zhou Fan went to Chen Yi's office and gave a helpless smile.
"Zhou Fan, what am I going to do?"
Seeing Zhou Fan return, Chen Yi—who had been bottling up her emotions and showing no sign of anything unusual—couldn't hold back any longer. The moment Zhou Fan closed the door, she threw herself into his arms and began to sob quietly.
"Just act the same as you always have. Whether Chen Feng saw the photos or not, he won't dare say a word. Trust me." Zhou Fan gently patted Chen Yi's back. Beyond that, he didn't know what else to say. 'Was he supposed to tell her it was no big deal and not to worry about it?'
Although Chen Yi wasn't Chu Yan, his wife, and he had no real feelings for her—it was purely physical—Zhou Fan wasn't the kind of guy who just had his fun and then walked away without a care.
"Make love to me."
Chen Yi whispered in his ear. Without another word, the two of them rushed into the break room again.
After everything had quieted down, Chen Yi watched Zhou Fan as he smoked and suddenly spoke in a soft voice, "Zhou Fan, have you ever considered dating me, marrying me, and being together forever?"
Zhou Fan froze for a moment. He had never imagined Chen Yi would ask such a thing. He turned to look at her, pondered for a moment, and said, "Never. I have a wife."
Zhou Fan's words were direct and sincere. If he and Chu Yan hadn't developed feelings for each other, he might have considered it, but now it was impossible.
Perhaps it was a scumbag answer, but that was always Zhou Fan's policy when it came to these things: if you come to me, I'll accept you; if you leave, I won't stop you.
"You really are a scumbag!"
Chen Yi stared at Zhou Fan for a long time before finally uttering those few words.
"A scumbag is still better than a simp, isn't it? And aren't you into that?" Zhou Fan smirked, his large hand gently cupping Chen Yi's chin.
"What would you do if I told you to divorce your wife?"
"I'd advise you not to do that, because I'm not getting a divorce."
"Is her body better than mine? Is she prettier than me?" Chen Yi looked at Zhou Fan, refusing to back down. She had finally met a man who made her heart race and satisfied her in every way, and she wasn't going to give up easily.
"My wife's name is Chu Yan." Zhou Fan sighed helplessly. To make Chen Yi believe him, he even took out his phone and, right in front of her, dialed Chu Yan's number. "Honey, miss me?"
Three minutes later, when Zhou Fan hung up and turned back to her, Chen Yi was completely dumbfounded.
She never in a million years would have imagined that Zhou Fan's wife was their president—the same female president who was always so cold and kept everyone at arm's length. But just now, she had heard with her own ears the great Chu Yan acting cute with Zhou Fan over the phone.
Zhou Fan had done this thinking that if Chen Yi couldn't accept it, they would just break things off and never see each other again. But he never expected that Chen Yi's next words would nearly make his jaw hit the floor.
