Chapter 39: The Domineering Chen Yao
"Son of a bitch! That Chen Feng has some nerve!" Zhang Long slammed his hand on the table after hanging up, furious that he had lost face. After all, he had just given Zhou Fan his word.
"Alright, Younger Brother Zhou, let's go straight to the Chen Conglomerate. Their general manager is way too arrogant. How dare he refuse to hand the guy over to me? Does he really think I, Zhang Long, am a pushover!"
"Brother Zhang, if it's too much trouble, just forget it. I can deal with Liu Chuang another way."
"No need. It's just a general manager protecting his assistant. Today, I'm going to see just what he thinks he can use to protect him!"
Zhang Long had a temper of his own. Ignoring Zhou Fan's protests, he immediately took a group of bodyguards, and together with Zhou Fan, descended upon the Chen Conglomerate building at lightning speed.
"Elder Chen, there shouldn't be a problem if I come to your company to pick someone up, right? It's nothing major. This person just offended the man who saved my life!"
Although Zhang Long was hot-headed, he knew you had to consider the master before beating his dog. Upon arriving downstairs, he had made a call to Chen Shilei, the Chairman of the Chen Conglomerate and Patriarch of the Chen Family.
'Little brat, even your grandfather has agreed. Let's see you try and stop me now,' Zhang Long muttered to himself as he walked into the building.
Seeing a group of over twenty people, the security guards at the entrance didn't dare to stop them. After all, their salary of three or four thousand a month wasn't worth dying for.
"Where's Chen Feng? Get out here!"
In the middle of the lobby, Zhang Long sat down on a chair, legs spread wide in a show of dominance, and bellowed at the top of his lungs.
"Uncle Zhang, what's all this? Why are you so angry?"
A short while later, a gentle voice spoke up, but it wasn't Chen Feng. Instead, it was a woman of about twenty-six or twenty-seven. She wore a stylish pantsuit, had short hair, and a graceful figure. On her delicate face, there was a beauty mark just below the corner of her left eye.
"Xiaoyao, I'm here to get someone from your brother." Zhang Long glanced at her but made no move to stand. In terms of seniority, she had to call him 'uncle,' even though the woman before him was the president of the Chen Conglomerate.
Chen Yao frowned slightly, her gaze sweeping over Zhang Long and the more than twenty bodyguards behind him. She knew this wouldn't be easy to resolve and gestured for someone beside her to go call Chen Feng down.
"Uncle Zhang, may I ask what Chen Feng did to provoke you? Why are you so furious?" Chen Yao asked, confused.
"That brother of yours is really something else. His assistant, the one named Liu Chuang, offended the man who saved my life. I called him and told him to hand the guy over, but not only did he refuse, he said it was none of my business and hung up on me!"
"And how exactly did Liu Chuang offend you?" Chen Yao looked at Zhou Fan, who was sitting beside Zhang Long. Her intuition told her this was the life-saving benefactor he had mentioned.
"And if I tell you, can you resolve it?" Zhou Fan glanced at her, taking a cigarette from Zhang Long as he asked nonchalantly.
"I am the president of this company. Do you think I can't resolve it?" Chen Yao was clearly displeased with Zhou Fan's attitude.
"How about this: you and I start dating, I take some compromising photos of you, and then I use them to blackmail you. What do you think?" Zhou Fan slowly exhaled a ring of smoke, a flash of murderous intent in his eyes.
"You…" Chen Yao was about to tell Zhou Fan to get lost, but as she opened her mouth, she understood what he meant. "I understand now. Rest assured, I will give you a satisfactory answer." Anger surged through her. As a woman, she found it utterly unacceptable.
Just then, Chen Feng came downstairs with Liu Chuang.
"Liu Chuang, hand over the photos. This matter is still negotiable." Chen Yao shot a glare at Chen Feng, then fixed her beautiful eyes on Liu Chuang, never having expected that the man who always seemed so polite and refined could be such a sanctimonious hypocrite.
"Chen Yao, he's my assistant. Are you trying to completely disregard me, your own brother?"
However, Chen Feng stepped in front of Chen Yao. "Zhang Long, I already told you on the phone. It's not your place to discipline my assistant. You'd best stay out of it, unless you want to bring trouble on yourself!"
CRASH!
Zhang Long kicked the table over and shot to his feet, his fierce eyes locked on Chen Feng. "What did you say?"
"I said, mind your own fucking business. Watch out, or you might end up dead on the street one day and no one will even know," Chen Feng snorted with contempt, his arrogant tone showing he had no regard for Zhang Long whatsoever.
SLAP!
Chen Yao slapped Chen Feng across the face, her expression as cold as frost. "I am the president here. Get back to your office. I will be calling Grandfather about this matter!"
"You rotten bitch! Siding with an outsider, are we? Just you wait, I'll make you regret this!" Chen Feng clutched his stinging cheek, his face twisted in uncontrollable rage as he spat the curse. He then turned and stormed off, abandoning Liu Chuang.
"Hand over the photos and get out of this company," Chen Yao said to Liu Chuang, her face devoid of expression, as if she hadn't even heard Chen Feng's furious curses and threats.
Looking at the USB drive in his hand, Zhou Fan glanced at Chen Yao. "Thanks. But I'm taking him with me. I don't believe for a second that he doesn't have a backup."
"Suit yourself," Chen Yao replied coldly, then turned to Zhang Long. "However, I hope something like this never happens again. The Chen Family is not a family that can be pushed around at will—not even by the Yunlong Group."
