Chapter 34: Not Coming Back Tonight
A single bead worth a million US dollars?
And they were virtually impossible to buy?
If it weren't for Elder Wei's esteemed status, the crowd would have accused him of spouting nonsense.
How many beads were on that bracelet?
A full twelve of them!
Twelve million US dollars!
As a full bracelet, the price would be even higher—perhaps even reaching fifteen million US dollars!
Everyone present was a titan of the business world; they naturally understood this principle, as did Chu Yan.
She glanced down at the bracelet, then back at Zhou Fan. 'This casual gift is worth over ten million dollars?'
"Elder Wei, what's the difference between this Ice Flower Rose Quartz and ordinary Rose Quartz?" someone who also appeared to hold some status asked in confusion.
"It's quite simple. Everyone knows the properties of Rose Quartz—it can relieve fatigue and refresh the mind," Elder Wei said with a confident smile. "Ice Flower Rose Quartz not only possesses all the properties of ordinary Rose Quartz, but its effects are even more potent. It also calms the spirit and improves one's physical constitution. For women, in particular, it can regulate their menstrual cycle and prevent any related disorders."
"That sounds impressive, but surely that doesn't justify such a high price?" someone commented with a frown.
"Because it has one other property," Elder Wei said, glancing at the speaker before turning back to Zhou Fan. "It grants immunity to all poisons."
Immunity to all poisons?
GASP!
In an instant, everyone in the hall, except for Zhou Fan, drew a sharp, cold breath.
"Mr. Zhou, is what I've said correct?" Elder Wei's gaze was intense.
"I wouldn't know. Like I said, a friend gave it to me. I thought it looked nice, so I gave it to my wife."
Zhou Fan shrugged. Of course, he knew all about the properties of Ice Flower Rose Quartz.
Feeling Chu Yan pinching his waist, Zhou Fan sighed in resignation and offered an explanation. "It's not actually that miraculous. It's effective against common toxins, but if you were up against a truly potent poison, it would only buy you a little more time to get treatment."
"Is it really that amazing? What makes you so sure it's Ice Flower Rose Quartz? None of us have ever seen one!" Liu Mengqi retorted loudly, pointing a finger at Zhou Fan.
"Elder Wei, she's unconvinced by your appraisal!" Zhou Fan said, ignoring the finger pointed at his face and deftly redirecting her animosity. "You should be more humble when you're ignorant. Do you know who Elder Wei is? You don't have to believe me, but are you questioning Elder Wei's word? Do you really think a man as respected and upstanding as him would conspire with me to lie to you?"
Everyone, especially Liu Mengqi, was stunned. 'She hadn't been targeting Elder Wei—she was going after Zhou Fan and Chu Yan. How did this suddenly become about Elder Wei?'
Elder Wei shot Zhou Fan a half-smile, then glanced at Liu Mengqi without offering any further explanation.
However, everyone knew that Elder Wei was clearly displeased. In their circle, Elder Wei was the ultimate authority.
"President Chu, I wonder if you would be willing to part with this bracelet? I'm willing to offer thirty million US dollars for it!"
Given his status, Elder Wei wasn't about to argue with a junior. He simply turned and looked at Chu Yan with anticipation.
Thirty million US dollars!
Far exceeding its market value!
"I'm sorry, Elder Wei. This is the first gift my husband ever gave me, so it's very meaningful to me. I don't want to sell it," Chu Yan said with an apologetic smile. She still hadn't fully wrapped her head around the situation. 'What in the world does that bastard do for a living?'
'He casually gives me a bracelet worth tens of millions… that's enough to buy Fenghua International three times over!'
Although Elder Wei was disappointed, he didn't press the matter. He ignored everyone else and simply stood before Chu Yan and Zhou Fan, striking up a conversation.
Because of Elder Wei's status, others quickly gathered around as well, instantly making Chu Yan the center of attention.
"Throw those two out," Wang Tianhao ordered in a low voice, pointing at Liu Mengqi and Liang Hao. He then joined the conversation as well.
As Liang Hao was being thrown out, he was cursing up a storm internally. 'What the hell? I'm the one who got beaten up!'
The banquet ended and the guests began to depart. Unbeknownst to them, someone had been sitting in a corner throughout the event, their gaze fixed on Zhou Fan the entire time.
"Go investigate this Zhou Fan. I want a detailed file on him—the more detailed, the better. I want to know what he eats and drinks every day," the figure in the corner instructed someone behind them in a low voice.
"Yes, Boss," a shadowy figure from behind replied before turning to leave.
Back home, Chu Yan's face was still alight with a happy smile. She was so content that she didn't even protest as Zhou Fan held her in his arms and playfully teased her.
"Honey, why are you so good to me?" Chu Yan asked, tilting her face up and shaking the bracelet. "When are you going to tell me about your past? Are you secretly rich? If so, why did you come to work at my company?"
Like a curious child, Chu Yan fired off one question after another, making Zhou Fan not know whether to laugh or cry. He gently pinched her nose.
"Honey, you're so cute. As punishment, I'm going to have to kiss you."
"Mmmph..."
COUGH, COUGH...
Suddenly, a series of harsh coughs came from outside the door, startling Chu Yan. She quickly sat up, turning her back to the entrance to straighten the clothes Zhou Fan had disheveled.
"It's fine. They're pretty far from our door, they can't see anything," Zhou Fan said, having already sensed someone's approach. He gently stroked Chu Yan's head. "Honey, you should go to sleep. I probably won't be back tonight. I have to go take care of some things."
