Chapter 192: Half an Hour at Most?
"My wife can't be getting jealous, can she? I'm still an employee in the sales department. Since I haven't been to work in so long, isn't it normal for Sister Chen, as the head of the department, to ask about me?" Though Zhou Fan was panicking inside, he showed no sign of it on the surface. He gave Chu Yan's small nose a fond pinch and said teasingly.
"Hmph, cut the act. Don't think I don't know you. With the way you welcome anyone who comes your way, do you really expect me to believe there's nothing more than a professional relationship between you and Chen Yi? Kill me, and I still wouldn't believe it!" Chu Yan snorted haughtily, then her tone shifted. "It's the same thing I always say: I don't care what you do outside, just don't let me see it. But in this house, there can only be one woman—me. Understand?"
A warmth spread through Zhou Fan's chest. For someone with Chu Yan's dominant personality to say such a thing was truly rare. He was about to walk over and hug her when he noticed a cunning glint in her beautiful eyes and stopped in his tracks.
'That was close. This woman is a company CEO. Why is she reading up on military strategy instead of her files?'
'She actually tried to lure me in. Good thing I caught on, or I would have been a sitting duck!'
"Honey, what are you thinking? Am I that kind of person? If you keep letting your imagination run wild, I'll have to spank you!" As he spoke, Zhou Fan moved to Chu Yan's side, holding her in place with one hand and giving her bottom a light slap with the other.
"Hmph. I'll believe you for now. So, are you going to the office later?" A smug smile spread across Chu Yan's face, and the nervous knot in Zhou Fan's chest finally loosened.
"Not right away. I have something else to take care of first," Zhou Fan said, shaking his head. He remembered that he'd promised Chen Yao he would take her to see Chen Feng.
After seeing Chu Yan off, Zhou Fan drove to Divan. He sat in his car and called Chen Yao. "Little Yaoyao, I'm at the entrance to Divan. Come on down!"
"What are you doing at Divan?" Chen Yao's displeased voice came from the other end of the line.
Zhou Fan was taken aback for a moment. 'What's gotten into this girl?'
"Didn't we agree yesterday that I'd take you to get the money from Chen Feng?"
"That was yesterday's plan. I'm too busy today, I can't get away."
"Fine, forget it. I'll go by myself." Zhou Fan glanced up and saw Chen Yao standing behind a window. Pretending he was about to leave, he hung up and started the car.
Sure enough, the phone rang the very next second. It was Chen Yao. "Have you no decency? You were the one who went back on your word yesterday!"
"So are you coming or not?"
"I'm coming!"
A moment later, watching Chen Yao run out of Divan's main entrance, the corners of Zhou Fan's mouth curved into a mischievous grin. 'Heh, you little thing. Trying to play mind games with me?'
Today, Chen Yao was wearing a wine-red coat and white jeans that beautifully accentuated her long, slender legs. Her short, wine-red hair bounced as if dancing while she ran, making her look youthful, vibrant, and full of confidence.
"Open the door, you bastard!" The next second, the pleasant image shattered. Chen Yao reached the car, found the door locked, and angrily smacked the window with her small handbag. Her beautiful, large eyes, as if they were about to spew fire, glared at Zhou Fan.
"So feisty. I really was busy yesterday and just forgot. By the time I remembered, it was the middle of the night. I was afraid you were asleep, so I didn't send a message," Zhou Fan explained with a smile. Seeing that she was still glaring at him, he leaned over and pulled Chen Yao's seatbelt across her.
As Zhou Fan leaned in, he took a gentle sniff behind Chen Yao's ear. "Your perfume smells lovely today," he said mischievously as he pulled back. "A faint scent of lily. I like it."
"Are you going to drive or not? You talk too much!" Chen Yao shoved Zhou Fan away with utter disgust and demanded angrily.
Zhou Fan morosely played the part of chauffeur, wondering to himself, 'This shouldn't be happening. How come this move isn't working anymore?'
'Am I not handsome enough today?'
What Zhou Fan didn't know was that while he was feeling frustrated, Chen Yao was tightly pressing her lips together, fighting to suppress a smile.
Upon arriving at the Chen Group building, the car had just come to a stop when a few security guards approached. "You can't park here! Move it along!"
Zhou Fan ignored them, got out of the car, and walked over to the passenger side. He opened the door for Chen Yao like a gentleman, and she, understanding the cue, looped her arm through his.
"Hey! I said you can't park here! Are you deaf or something?" When the guards saw the pair not only ignore them but also flaunt their affection right in their faces, they became furious.
"No need to be so aggressive. It's a job that pays a few thousand a month, why take it so seriously?" Zhou Fan smiled faintly, took out a thousand yuan, and stuffed it into the guard's hand. "We're just going up for a bit. Be flexible."
"Alright then. Make it quick, half an hour at most!" The guard glanced at the money in his hand, quickly pocketed it, and then spoke, putting on a show of authority.
