Three days came and went without so much as a hint of other temples or people. The meager supplies in Hannah's bag had quickly run out. We had no food, no water, no hope.

"Sorry for dragging you into this mess."

Hannah looked down at me with a relaxed shrug of her shoulders. "You didn't. You might have landed in my lap a month ago, but the choices since have been mine. I already told you about the feelings that led me to track you down, although I thought I would be saving you from a succubus at the time." She chuckled and shook her head.

"Wait..." I snickered and couldn't help the wide grin spreading across my chapped lips. "You thought Lily was a succubus?"

The angel's cheeks reddened. "In my defense, you did meet her in a demon prison. And then she was all you could talk about for weeks afterwards."

"Oh yeah. I can see how that might look." I chewed on my lip as I pulled Hannah against my side and wrapped an arm around her. "Thanks for coming to save me."

Hannah nodded and lifted her chin towards the ginger walking in front of us. "She wasn't exploring the temple, you know. Not primarily, at least. She just didn't want you to see her sobbing over nearly getting you killed when you saved her."

Oh. My heart clenched so hard that I had to gasp for breath.

"I... didn't know that, no. She hides it well." I missed her touch. I missed her laugh. I desperately missed the way her lips felt against mine. I missed that twinkle she'd get in her eye when she had a clever idea. I ACHED with how much I missed her. I sniffed and angrily swiped at my wet cheeks.

The taller woman chuckled. "She doesn't hide it that well. You're just a bit-"

"Oblivious?" I offered up.

She shook her head. "I was gonna go with trusting. She offers up a stoic mask and you accept it, because that's just how you are. You take people at their word. But that mask hides a vast, turbulent ocean of pain. Just like yours. She's just a bit better at hiding it."

I let out a long, heavy sigh. "Is there any way to get her to talk to me? To convince her that... I really didn't mean to hurt her? I got sucked into this world. Yeah, it resembles some of the stuff I wrote. Maybe I did make it? I have no fucking idea. But... there's so much here that's new to me too. I'm just making shit up as I go along."

"Hmm." Hannah tapped her chin in thought. "Stop walking. Stand still. I might have an idea."

"Gladly." I came to a stop, delighted for the brief respite, and watched Lily get farther away from us.

"Hey, LILY!" Hannah bellowed at the top of her lungs.

With a slow, annoyed turn, the small ginger looked back at us. "FUCKING WHAT?!?"

"Your girlfriend loves you and she's dying of broken heart. She's not taking one more gods damned step until you admit that you still love her too. She has declared that she will stand rooted to this spot until she withers up and blows away!" Hannah crossed her arms and nodded officiously.

Lily chewed on her lip as she looked from Hannah to me. I did my best to look like I wouldn't take one more step, which really didn't involve any acting. I was so fucking exhausted and starving. Finally, she huffed and stomped back to us.

"Come on. You can't just stand here until you die. Hannah, tell her she's being stupid." Lily planted her hands on her hips and gave me her most annoyed look.

The tall angel held up her hands. "Hey, she's your girlfriend. I'm just here for moral support."

"Oh?" An eyebrow quirked upwards and Lily crossed her arms. "So you don't want to get in my girlfriend's pants?" My heart seized and fluttered at the same time, hearing her call me girlfriend again.

Hannah blushed furiously, but held the ginger's eye. "Since catching up with you two, I have been honest about my feelings. Are you?"

Lily fidgeted and scuffed the dirt with her boot. Must be nice to have boots. My feet were aching and bleeding from walking bare for three days. I was fortunate that Mount Celestia had been warm thus far. The small half-elf mumbled something, and then huffed her bangs out of her face.

I raised my eyebrows. "What was that, Lily?"

She rolled her eyes even harder. "I said, of course I still love you, idiot. I... I'm not even mad at you, not really."

"Really? You seemed pretty mad." I shifted my weight from one foot to the other, trying to relieve the aching, even a little.

Lily looked down at my bleeding feet and tears welled in her eyes. "Okay, maybe I was mad at you a bit. Maybe more than a bit, for the first day or so." She looked up at the purple sky as the tears broke free and fell down her face. "Arrrrgghh! I'm mad at myself more than anything, and I've been taking it out on you. I know that this was all just a story to you. That you never meant to hurt anyone, and hell, for all we know, you probably didn't. I'm mad because..." She swallowed and shook her head. "I'm mad because I wish that I was as good a person as you. I wasted millennia on some stupid vendetta. And sure, some of the gods deserved to go away. But I didn't discriminate, and I certainly went after some who didn't deserve it. And then a whole lot of people got hurt because of me." Lily wrapped her arms around herself with a deep sigh and stared at the ground. "I'm sorry, Alexis. Sorry for being a shitty girlfriend. And all that being said, we're still-"

"Complicated." I finished the thought and she nodded. "We don't have to rush into anything. I just..." I sniffed and wiped away my own tears. "I just needed to know you didn't hate me."

"I could never hate you. Fuck. You literally jumped on a sword for me." Lily pulled me into a hug, and then she reached over and pulled Hannah into the hug as well. "I'm so lucky to have both of you."

"I have a question." I mumbled into both women's hair without pulling out of the hug.

"What is your question?" Hannah tilted her head down to look at me.

"Lily and I both have bodies that were made by magic, not born. So why do we have belly buttons?"

I couldn't see her face, but I felt Lily roll her eyes. "Alexis, shut the fuck up. That's a stupid fucking thing to spend energy thinking about."
