Session 52 – I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore
A/N: Would this chapter have been better from Hannah's perspective? I couldn't make up my mind.
Alexis
The water gently lapped at my chin as the first rays of sunlight peaked in at me. Small waves glimmered with reflected light and I was entirely out at sea, to quote Dr. Maxwell. What would I do. What could I do.
Nothing.
I was nothing. My girlfriend was a monster. The gods were assholes. This world sucked. A heavy sigh escaped my lips. I still loved her, even knowing what she'd done. Unless it was all an act? One more ploy among many, perpetrated by the gods for their own sick amusement. She was probably laughing at me right now. I started crying again.
A brief debate waged in my head about pulling myself out of the water or just letting myself sink to the bottom. Breathing won and I flopped up onto the beach. Deck? The segment of dry land adjacent to the water.
I wondered what she was doing right now. I missed her. Fuck my life. Without her nearby, it was harder to keep the nightmares at bay. Getting stabbed, repeatedly. Dying. Getting crunched by a demon. The look on that kids face while he was killing me.

Thanks DM. Super helpful to have a visual representation of how depressed I am. I should have gotten a status screen years ago. Think of all the things I've missed out on.
At some point, I must have passed out.
"Alexis!"
I opened one eye, and then the other. "Oh wow, it's you." I stared up at Hannah as she towered over me with concern deeply etched into her face. "Long time no see."
Hannah sighed and rolled her eyes. "Get up, we need to talk."
We. I tilted my head to find Paz standing off to the side. She quickly looked away. I grimaced. "How did you find me? Also, I don't talk to gods."
"Oh, are we too insignificant for you to notice? Done with your playthings already?" Paz snarled at me and crossed her arms.
The giant angel growled at me. "She knew exactly where to find you, and I wasn't asking." She picked me up and threw me over her shoulder. Alrighty then. Didn't have that on my bingo card.
We marched back to the inn and Hannah unceremoniously dumped me onto the bed. I pulled my knees up to my chin in a position very similar to when Hannah and I first talked after I arrived in this world. "What? What do you want?"
"I have no idea what the fuck is going on. You vanished into thin fucking air. I spent two weeks tracking you down, only to find this woman crying in your bed. I..." She looked to Paz and then back to me. A deep frown creased her face as her shoulders slumped. "Are- are you two lovers?"
"No!"
"No!"
Paz and I glared at each other.
"Ooookay." Hannah looked between us. "You sure sound like you are, but okay. So, I'm assuming you found yourself back in her prison and then you both escaped?" I nodded. Her head tilted as she looked down at me and the next words came out soft and hesitant. "How long were you two there before you left?"
"Three years."
"Thirty years."
We glared harder.
"Thirty years..." Hannah stared down at me, her voice soft, searching. "You're a different person than when we met."
I angrily crossed my arms over my bikini top. "Oh sure, take her side!"
The tall angel ground her teeth together and her hand found the holy symbol hanging around her neck. "Fine! You want to be a difficult bitch about this? Let's just all be a bit more truthful, shall we?"
"No!"
"No!"
Paz's fingers closed around mine as my fingers closed around the holy symbol as it flared with Divine light.
Everything went white.

I coughed, feeling dirt pressed against my face. My unsteady legs wobbled as I dragged myself up and looked around. On one side of me, Paz slowly dragged herself to her feet; on the other, Hannah groaned as she lay in the dirt.
"Now look what you've done!" Paz spat at me and stomped over. "It's not enough that you drag me all over creation and... and-" Her voice faltered as she blinked back tears. "And made me love you. Now you can't even leave me alone to wallow in my misery. Just where in the fuck have you taken me to now?"
"ME?!?" I bristled and stepped up into her face. "Everything was fine until you interfered!" I gestured all around us to the mountainside we were standing on. "Now you've banished us to Mount Celestia and we have no way to get back or contact our friends. So thanks, Paz. Or should I say Lapazulalei! Thanks for nothing."
She flinched away from the full name and broke eye contact. "Of course you know where we are. You've only ever pretended to not know things so you could laugh at me behind my back."
I opened my mouth for a biting retort when Hannah stepped between us and looked down at me with a very complicated expression. "Alexis, or whatever your name is. My... my holy symbol broke." Her eyes gleamed with barely contained tears as she delicately held the cracked medallion like a baby bird. The tall angel fell to her knees before me. "What- what did I ever do except show kindness? Why am I being punished? I don't understand. Surely, the Elder God made a mistake?"
The words slipped out before my brain could catch them as I glared at Paz. "The Elder God makes a lot of mistakes."
The ginger woman flinched and tears poured down her cheeks as her entire body seemed to deflate. "I... see. I'm sorry you feel that way. We all try our best, but I guess it's not good enough for you. I understand now that I was never good enough for your... standards."
I scoffed at her and turned away. "Come on you two. I think I can see a temple or something in the distance. Maybe we can find a way back."
"One more test then? I shall relish the opportunity to redeem myself." Hannah dragged herself upright and wiped away the tears as she moved to follow me.
