God-Tier Awakening: The Dead Can Still Level Up

Chapter 108: Purchasing the Corpse

The noise from the arena gradually faded as Xingluo and the others moved farther into the academy, although it did little to stop the attention following them.

Students passing from the opposite direction looked toward Xingluo more than once, and several were openly discussing the match they had just watched.

Xingluo pulled the hood of her jacket slightly lower and increased her pace.

"This is your fault."

Xiaorou looked at her in disbelief. "My fault?"

"You brought us to the arena."

"I brought you there to look around." Xiaorou pushed her glasses higher. "You were the one who needed Contribution Points after all, Senior. I only showed you where you could earn them."

"You found me a challenge against something two hundred levels above me."

"And then I spent the next ten minutes telling you not to accept it!"

Ruan Mei laughed beside them, while Tianhe remained suspiciously quiet.

Xiaorou immediately looked toward him. "Senior Tianhe, say something."

Tianhe glanced at her. "You did ask for terrible odds."

Xiaorou stared at him for several seconds before turning away. "I regret helping all three of you."

Xingluo smiled and continued walking, beside her, Wuxia had paid almost no attention to the argument.

His gaze remained fixed ahead, clearly more interested in what they had originally left the arena to retrieve.

Xiaorou noticed Xingluo glance toward him, although from her perspective she was only looking at empty space.

"Don't worry, we're going to get your summon."

Xingluo looked back toward her. "You remembered."

"Of course I remembered that you nearly got yourself killed because you needed the Contribution Points to buy it."

"That makes it sound worse."

"It should."

Ruan Mei glanced between them. "The Veyran?"

Xiaorou nodded. "Senior Xingluo asked about buying its corpse before she suddenly decided fighting something two hundred levels above her was a reasonable solution."

Ruan Mei looked toward Xingluo. "You're really going to make it into an undead?"

Xingluo hesitated for barely a moment. "Something like that."

Wuxia gave her an amused look but said nothing, they continued around the rear side of the arena until Xiaorou led them toward one of the academy's corpse storage facilities.

The building was much quieter than the arena they had just left. Cold air spread through the entrance as soon as the doors opened, while preservation formations covered the walls and the sealed passages leading deeper inside.

Several academy employees stood behind the counters, handling the transfer and registration of monster bodies.

Xingluo had barely entered when she noticed Professor Liang standing near one of them.

"Teacher?"

Professor Liang turned and his expression changed the moment he saw her and for several seconds, he simply stared.

Xingluo stopped in front of him. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"You've been inside Dragon Military Academy for less than a day."

"I know."

"And somehow you already fought a Level 299 King-bloodline Hell Hound in front of thousands of students."

Xingluo smiled slightly. "I won."

"I noticed."

Professor Liang rubbed his forehead before looking at her more carefully. The irritation in his expression weakened once he confirmed she was still standing without any serious visible injuries.

"Reckless."

Xingluo's smile faded slightly.

Professor Liang paused before adding, "But impressive."

Her expression immediately brightened again. "Thank you, Teacher."

"That was not encouragement."

"It sounded like encouragement."

"It wasn't."

Xiaorou quietly looked away before Professor Liang could notice her smile.

His gaze moved across the group before settling upon Xingluo again. "What are you doing here?"

Xiaorou answered before she could. "We're collecting Senior Xingluo's future summon."

Professor Liang raised an eyebrow.

"The Veyran corpse," Xingluo explained.

Understanding appeared almost immediately as he thought about the so called summon companion of hers.

He looked toward the counter. "Then check whether it is still available."

Xingluo stepped forward and placed her academy identification against the terminal.

Before she could search the arena exchange, several notifications appeared across the display.

[Special Challenge completed.]

[Challenger: Luo Xingluo.]

[Challenger Level: 99.]

[Opponent Level: 299.]

[Level Difference: 200.]

[Additional Academy Contribution Points awarded.]

Xingluo immediately opened her balance, the number had risen sharply from the zero she had been staring at before entering the challenge.

Xiaorou leaned closer, her eyes widening behind her glasses. "That's considerably more than I expected."

Xingluo looked rather satisfied. "So the challenge was worth it."

"No."

"It gave me the points."

"It also nearly killed you."

"But it gave me the points."

Xiaorou opened her mouth, then looked toward Professor Liang as though expecting support.

Professor Liang remained silent for a moment before saying, "The academy rewards victories against stronger opponents more heavily."

Xiaorou immediately pointed toward Xingluo. "Teacher Liang, please don't tell her that."

Professor Liang frowned. "Why?"

"Because now she's going to start calculating how many points she gets for fighting something three hundred levels above her."

Xingluo glanced toward the balance again.

Xiaorou's expression darkened. "She's already thinking about it."

"I'm not."

"You absolutely are senior."

Ruan Mei laughed while Xingluo ignored her and opened the arena exchange and the Veyran appeared almost immediately.

Its corpse was still available and beside the required Academy Contribution Points sat the credit price.

[Veyran Corpse]

[Condition: Complete.]

[Price: 40,000,000 Credits + Academy Contribution Points.]

Xingluo stared at the number.

"Forty million."

Xiaorou leaned over slightly. "I told you special dimensional races were expensive."

"You told me I needed Contribution Points."

"I also told you the credits weren't the difficult part."

That was unfortunately true.

Before the challenge, Xingluo had possessed enough credits to afford the corpse but no Academy Contribution Points at all.

Now the freshly awarded points had removed the only thing preventing her from purchasing it.

Wuxia moved closer to the terminal.

Buy it.

Xingluo looked toward him.

Forty million.

You wanted the corpse too.

You wanted it first.

And you agreed.

Xingluo stared at him for another moment before turning back toward the display.

The Veyran had looked directly at Wuxia during its fight against Jiang Yue, even after he had moved, its eyes had followed him without hesitation.

Wuxia still did not know why and that alone was enough.

Xingluo pressed the confirmation.

[Purchase successful.]

[40,000,000 Credits deducted.]

[Academy Contribution Points deducted.]

[Veyran Corpse ownership transferred to Luo Xingluo.]

Xingluo watched the forty million disappear from her account and remained quiet for several seconds.

Xiaorou looked at her. "Regretting it?"

"A little."

Wuxia smiled. Too late.

Xingluo ignored him.

The academy employee confirmed the purchase and disappeared through one of the sealed passages behind the counter.

A few minutes later he returned carrying a storage ring marked with several preservation formations.

"The corpse remains complete, the preservation formation inside the ring will prevent deterioration until you remove it."

Xingluo accepted the ring and slipped it onto her finger, wuxia looked toward it with obvious satisfaction.

Finally.

You can wait until we get home.

He glanced toward Xingluo before reluctantly looking away.

Professor Liang noticed her quiet expression and shook his head. "Go back and rest. You've done enough for one day."

Xingluo nodded. "Yes, Teacher."

This time she decided not to argue and the four left the storage facility shortly afterward and began making their way back toward the residential district.

The academy had grown quieter as evening approached, but Xingluo still caught several students looking toward her whenever they passed.

Apparently fighting in front of thousands of people had ended any hope of quietly settling into the academy.

Ruan Mei noticed another group whispering after they walked past.

"You're going to have an interesting day tomorrow."

Xingluo frowned. "Why?"

"They know your name now."

"Wonderful."

Xiaorou smiled. "Senior should look at the positive side, at least nobody will mistake you for a freshman anymore."

Xingluo looked toward her.

Xiaorou immediately became serious. "Probably."

Tianhe laughed quietly and by the time the four reached the residential district, the roads had become almost empty.

Their three A-grade villas soon appeared ahead, exactly where Xiaorou had brought them earlier that day. Xingluo felt herself relax slightly upon seeing them.

Xiaorou stopped near the entrance to the villa complex.

"Well, Seniors, this junior's work is finally done for today."

Ruan Mei smiled. "You're leaving?"

"I should, unless Senior Xingluo plans to have some more exciting encounters."

Xingluo gave her a flat look. "I'm going home."

"Good."

Xiaorou nodded with exaggerated satisfaction before looking between all three of them.

"At least you know most of the important places now, if you need help with something else, you can message me."

Tianhe gave her a small nod. "Thanks for showing us around."

"Yeah," Ruan Mei added. "You spent most of the day with us."

Xiaorou smiled before turning toward Xingluo.

Xingluo sighed. "Thank you too."

"Senior doesn't sound very sincere."

"You almost got me killed."

"You nearly got yourself killed, I tried to stop you."

"Almost killed."

"That isn't better."

Xingluo laughed and Xiaorou finally gave up arguing.

"Fine, fine. I'll see you tomorrow."

Ruan Mei waved. "Good night."

Tianhe nodded. "Good night."

Xingluo raised one hand as well. "See you tomorrow, Xiaorou."

Xiaorou pushed her glasses higher, turned around and started walking back toward the main academy roads.

The three remained near the villa entrance for another moment before watching her disappear beyond the residential path.
