Chapter 78: The Sixth Wall Opens
The creature looked at Theo through Brandy’s eyes, and the look it gave him was pure loathing. And Theo revelled in it.
"Yes, look at me with so much hate. Because I will be the one to end your family line."
He chuckled before he went over and dislodged his sword from the monster’s leg, working the blade out of the meat in two short pulls. Then he released the shadow covering on the shield. The thing barely held. Cracks ran all over it, pale lines spreading from the centre out to the rim, and the metal along one edge had gone soft and puckered the way metal goes before it gives.
’Damn, a little bit more and my shield would have shattered.’
A moment before, Theo had wanted to count on the power of the shield to hold and redirect the attack while in the air, and throw open the Legatee’s defense so he would be able to deal it a death strike with the rim of the shield.
The problem though was that his calculated speed was not enough, and he suddenly doubted the durability of the shield when he saw the tremendous power the axe was coming with. So he decided to take it, using the shadow covering to absorb most of the attack.
It was a success eventually, even though his body had suffered the shock for a brief moment. His left arm still rang from wrist to shoulder, and the fingers on that hand were closing slower than he wanted them to. But again, he had gained even more stats because of it.
Because of his rising endurance, even though Theo felt out of breath, he could feel that quantifiable strength to see this through to the very end. His chest burned. His legs did not.
And at the same time, more Legatee were already approaching their standpoint to put an end to the threat that was a thorn in their flesh. He could hear them before he could count them, armor grinding on armor, feet coming up the street in no order at all.
Theo bought the challenge, he didn’t move until they were closer to the building whose roof he stood on.
Then he vanished.
The three that attacked at the same time, one of them had a fierce-looking body, even though it wasn’t as large as the Legatee that Theo had just defeated. It was large enough that when it crashed into the building, segments of it crumbled upon each other, stones falling over stones, and the dust went up the face of the wall in a slow grey climb.
The next one, in another modern-style armor, leaped over the debris and flew into the air at great distance, landing on the roof and shattering the slates. Broken pieces slid off the edge and burst on the street below.
But it found no one.
It glanced around too. And found no one still.
Then from afar, something flew with an insane speed and buried itself into its eyes, sending it a step back. Its hands came up to its face far too late.
It was an arrow. And the moment the creature paused to scrutinize that, another one flew, and many more flew stamping themselves all over its body, all the way from the sixth wall. They came in on a flat line and they did not stop coming, and the sound they made going into armor was the sound of nails going into wood.
The gates opened again for the first time since this heinous disaster had diseased and eradicated the city. Then soldiers poured out of it.
When Theo heard the noise, he was surprised.
The people that had all been hopelessly waiting for their death behind the wall were all chasing towards the hole, with different kind of weapons. Some had sickles that looked as sharp as blades, filed and filed again over long nights into something a field had never asked for, and their weapon glinted quite viciously.
They also radiated with a will of flame, one that seemed to burn so brightly in their eyes. And in such moment, Theo was confused.
’I think I would have appreciated you guys if you have been this active from the beginning.’
A lot of things he had had to do alone would have been done faster and he’d be able to return to wives much faster.
’Let’s not complain. At least, now I don’t have to worry about the tide advancing.’
This for him, meant he could focus on eradicating the cause of all this, the Inheritance. Theo looked to Brandy’s direction.
Since the people poured out of the sixth wall, the man was not looking at him anymore. Instead it was focused on them, the head turned fully away, the shoulders squaring towards the noise. The Legatees that had also come in pursuit of him had frozen for a moment before turning their heads to the people.
The one on the roof though had been put down by an immense number of arrows that seemed to have been shot by a whole line of archers but was actually shot by one person.
Captain Dunn, who had stood over the nearest roof to the sixth wall and was firing an endless amount of arrows. She drew, released, and had the next shaft off the string before the last one landed, and her face through all of it stayed as flat as a woman counting stock.
The moment she was done, she leaped over the roof and continued to run through them, closer to the hordes from another direction.
Theo was... impressed.
He tried to study her and to his surprise, more came to view.

Theo was amused to see more information, he hadn’t been expecting so much, granted he couldn’t still see some things he had seen so easily outside the Tower, say with Uthed or with Lance. The panel handed him her numbers and then went quiet under them, the constitution, the circulation art, the skills, all of it sealed off behind the same two words.
But he didn’t have the time to dwell on it forever. Now, that the people from the Sixth wall were out, he changed his plans.
And decided to take the bull by its horn.
Granted this was going to be a really annoying bull to take by its horn.
