Chapter 140: A Dauntinmg Task II
Alex followed the map Sigurd had given him.
The deeper he went into the forest, the quieter his surroundings became.
The trees grew larger, and the vegetation became thicker.
After traveling for some time, Alex finally reached the location marked on the map.
He looked around.
"So this is the place."
According to the map and Sigurd’s description, this area was where a special monster known as the Forest Sin sometimes appeared.
The monster was created by the forest itself.
Whenever the forest’s ecosystem became unbalanced, it would absorb the remains of creatures that had died within it and gather them together in one place.
Over time, the accumulated remains and natural energy would transform into a monster.
That monster was known as the Forest Sin.
It was usually a Rank 3 monster.
Alex looked around carefully.
"Where is it?"
Suddenly, the ground beneath his feet began to tremble.
Alex’s expression changed.
"Found it."
The earth cracked open.
Thick roots suddenly burst out of the ground, followed by a massive body made entirely from twisted roots, plants, and pieces of wood.
The creature was enormous.
Its body looked like a deformed plant monster, with thick root-like limbs supporting its massive body.
Its head was shaped like a giant flower.
Two large eyes opened in the center of the flower, while rows of jagged teeth lined the edges of its petals.
Several thick roots extended from its body like arms.
The monster slowly turned toward Alex.
"ROOOAAAR!"
The Forest Sin released a terrifying roar.
Alex took a deep breath.
"So that’s a Rank 3 monster."
He wasn’t planning to fight it seriously.
He simply needed to die.
Alex raised his hand.
Golden light suddenly covered his body.
A magnificent set of golden armor appeared around him.
It was the Golden Knight Set his father had acquired for him.
At the same time, a matching golden greatsword appeared in his hand.
Alex tightened his grip around the sword.
Then his eyes changed.
A powerful flame erupted around his body.
"Fire Incarnation."
The flames quickly covered his armor.
This was the ability he had obtained from his Fire Drake bond.
His strength immediately increased.
Alex looked at the Forest Sin.
"Alright."
He raised his sword.
"Let’s do this."
The Forest Sin suddenly moved.
Several massive roots shot toward Alex.
Alex swung his sword.
BOOM!
The golden blade cut through one of the roots, but another root immediately came from the side.
Alex tried to dodge.
Too slow.
BANG!
The root slammed into his body.
Alex was launched backward like a cannonball.
He crashed through several trees before finally hitting the ground.
"Ugh..."
Alex slowly pushed himself up.
His armor had absorbed most of the impact, but the force had still left his body aching.
He looked at the Forest Sin.
’Damn.’
The monster was much stronger than he had expected.
Another group of roots suddenly rushed toward him.
Alex didn’t move.
"Just kill me already."
The roots struck him.
BANG!
Alex was thrown through another group of trees.
He landed heavily on the ground.
He stared up at the sky.
’Damn it.’
Alex wasn’t really trying to defeat the Forest Sin.
He had already decided that he would rely on his extra life.
If he died, he hoped that his extra life would send him somewhere else.
Anywhere would be better than this.
For the past month, Alex had felt trapped inside the Elf city.
Everywhere he went, elves stared at him.
Some pointed at him.
Others whispered among themselves.
Many looked at him with open disgust simply because he was a human.
He felt like an animal trapped inside a zoo.
’I’m surrounded by elves all day, and they keep staring at me like I’m some strange creature.’
Alex clenched his fists.
’I can’t even leave the city without the Forest’s Blessing.’
He looked at the Forest Sin approaching him.
’And now I have to kill a Rank 3 monster just to get out.’
Alex sighed.
"Maybe dying isn’t such a bad option."
The Forest Sin raised one of its massive root limbs.
Alex closed his eyes.
"Just make it quick."
The root came crashing down.
BOOM!
The ground shook violently.
Alex’s body was thrown away again.
He rolled across the ground before finally coming to a stop.
His golden armor was badly damaged.
Alex slowly opened his eyes.
"Seriously?"
He looked at the monster.
"Why are you so weak? Just kill me in one shot!"
The Forest Sin roared and charged toward him.
Alex sighed.
"Fine."
He slowly stood up and raised his golden greatsword.
"If I have to die, then at least make it painless."
The flames around his body burned brighter.
He knew he was taking a huge risk.
But at this point, he didn’t know what else to do.
He had no intention of actually defeating the Forest Sin.
He simply wanted to rely on his extra life and hope that his next destination would be somewhere better.
Alex tightened his grip on his sword.
"Come on, you ugly flower."
The Forest Sin roared.
Its roots suddenly rushed toward him from every direction.
Alex charged forward instead of retreating.
"Fire Incarnation!"
Golden flames exploded around his body as he swung his sword.
BOOM!
The clash between the two forces shook the surrounding forest.
Alex was quickly overwhelmed.
The Forest Sin’s roots smashed through his defenses and sent him flying.
As he crashed into the ground once again, Alex could only sigh.
’Damn.’
’If this doesn’t work, I’m going to have to think of another plan.’
The Forest Sin slowly approached him.
Alex looked at it.
"Alright..."
He raised his sword once more.
"One last try."
"Either kill me, or I’ll burn down your fucking ugly ass!"
Alex roared as he rushed toward the Forest Sin, his body blazing with golden flames.
He swung his sword downward, unleashing a massive wave of golden flames.
However, the Forest Sin simply swung one of its massive roots.
The root tore through the golden flames with ease.
The difference in their ranks was simply too great to ignore.
Alex was strong for his rank, but he was no heaven-defying genius capable of overcoming an entire two rank difference.
