Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging

Chapter 544 - 534: Saving Ariel 27

"Lure them away? How? Are we going to take the third-in-command hostage?" Kai York asked.

If the situation weren’t so critical, Moira Lynch would have loved to grab Kai York’s head and shake all the water out of it.

There were so many options, yet she had to pick the most dangerous one.

"I have a type of stone here called a cold rock. When thrown, it can instantly freeze the surrounding area. We’ll split up. You create a diversion, and I’ll raid the private treasury."

Kai York’s eyes lit up when she saw the stone Moira Lynch produced.

She had heard Hugh Finch mention this kind of stone before and had been dying to try it out.

"Alright, I’ll head to the warehouse. That’s the more important target, after all. If the warehouse gets attacked, I bet even the third-in-command won’t be able to keep their cool."

Moira Lynch nodded and, just to be safe, took off her own protective shield and gave it to Kai York.

After they separated, Kai York used the map and her Space Dagger to easily find the warehouse’s location.

It was called a warehouse, but it was actually a giant spaceship.

Crate after crate of Ariel Crystal Stones was being transported from outside. Countless captured natives from Ariel Planet were currently loading these Ariel Crystal Stones onto the spaceship.

Flanking the main ship were two other vessels. Based on Kai York’s assessment, one was likely already full, while the other was probably still empty.

The best course of action would have been for the full spaceship to depart immediately.

As for why a fully loaded ship hadn’t left, the reason came down to one thing—internal conflict.

According to the intelligence Hugh Finch had sent back, this pirate crew wasn’t exactly harmonious, and the third-in-command was quite ambitious.

But Kai York couldn’t care less about their internal squabbles; it had nothing to do with her anyway.

It was perfect that the ship hadn’t left. With so many Ariel Crystal Stones on board, they would be thrown into chaos when disaster struck.

With that thought, Kai York began her operation.

Thanks to the pirates’ habit of wearing masks, Kai York blended in among them with ease.

Upon entering the spaceship, Kai York was momentarily stunned by the interior layout.

’Such a fine ship,’ she thought. ’It almost feels like a waste to destroy it.’

Then she started planting the cold rocks nonstop.

A crevice here? Stuff one in. A ventilation duct there? Put a couple in. Oh, the cockpit? Better leave a few extra here.

She placed the cold rocks in various spots all around. Now, a single action from her was all it would take to detonate them instantly.

Kai York’s goal was to hold up the pirates and cause the biggest commotion possible, so her target wasn’t the Ariel Crystal Stones, but the spaceship itself.

As she threw a cold rock, a bone-chilling cold erupted like a firework.

A chain reaction immediately followed.

In an instant, the surrounding temperature plummeted to more than ten degrees below zero, making people shiver uncontrollably as screams echoed throughout the area.

Even the pirates were thrown into a panic by the sudden event, to say nothing of the natives from Ariel Planet.

Kai York had placed most of the cold rocks around the spaceship—inside and out, they were everywhere.

Naturally, the spaceship became the epicenter of the disaster.

Moreover, Kai York had been very clever about where she placed the cold rocks. To maximize the damage, she had chosen particularly vulnerable spots.

And so, before anyone could react, with a thunderous RUMBLE, the spaceship that was fully loaded with Ariel Crystal Stones began to emit white smoke, looking completely wrecked.

Seeing this, Kai York’s heart ached, but she couldn’t stop the grin from spreading across her face.

Watching more and more pirates rushing her way, Kai York quietly vanished.

She wasn’t going to press her luck and stick around to face the music after causing such a huge incident. With the time it would take to act innocent and argue her case, she might as well go cause some more destruction elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Moira Lynch had silently crept to the location of the private treasury.

Just as Moira Lynch had guessed, the place was heavily guarded. Forget a person—not even a mosquito could hope to fly in.

But this was Moira Lynch. If she wanted what was inside, she didn’t need to go in at all.

She quickly found a hidden spot and then unleashed her spiritual power.

The contents of the treasury lay completely exposed before Moira Lynch.

Seeing the crate after crate of Ariel Crystals, Moira Lynch was so excited she nearly started drooling.

Besides the Ariel Crystal Stones, she also discovered many other goodies inside, the most numerous of which were all sorts of sparkling jewels.

Let’s put it this way: the most worthless things in the entire treasury were probably the Gold Coins in the corner.

It seemed this treasury was something the pirate’s third-in-command valued greatly. Everything inside had been carefully selected.

’Hehe, it’s all mine now.’

To save time, Moira Lynch transferred everything inside into her space in one go.

The expected headache didn’t come. Her level must have increased, strengthening her endurance. This was a good thing.

Just as Moira Lynch finished collecting everything and was about to leave, a massive explosion roared in the distance.

’Looks like Kai York has made her move.’

Moira Lynch thought for a moment. ’Well, my objective is complete, and I’ve got time to kill. I might as well leave a little gift for these pirates, too.’

With a casual air, she headed off in another direction.

Elsewhere, Hugh Finch, wearing the mask of a green-faced, tusked demon, was performing a divination for the pirates’ third-in-command.

Just then, a sticky tentacle quietly crept up behind him.

Just as the tentacle was about to touch him, Hugh Finch spoke in a calm, unhurried voice. "My Lord, my divinations require absolute concentration. Otherwise, the reading may be inaccurate. So please, do not disturb me, alright?"

The tentacle behind him froze, then slowly and reluctantly retracted. A moment later, a voice—neither male nor female, but rather like a duet of both—descended from above.

"That’s only because your last few divinations haven’t given me the answers I want."

Directly above Hugh Finch’s head, a giant octopus was perched. Its purple skin was coated in a viscous liquid, making for a truly disgusting sight.

Beneath his mask, Hugh Finch was practically rolling his eyes into the back of his head. Still, he had no choice but to continue speaking placatingly to the giant octopus before him.

He looked up and said in a slightly helpless tone, "My Lord, these things require patience."
