Chapter 523 - 513: Rescuing Ariel 6
Although Escorts had their own rules, the two previous rescues made Moira Lynch realize something. If she wanted to use up all the supplies she was carrying, it would take a very long time to find survivors one by one.
’No wonder this mission doesn’t have a time limit.’
Searching for survivors was indeed a very time-consuming task.
Thinking of this, Moira Lynch couldn’t help but sigh. ’If only I’d known...’ she thought. ’Then again, even if I had, I still would have brought this many supplies.’
She came upon another cluster of buildings.
Moira Lynch looked at the surrounding buildings. This was the most severely damaged area she had seen yet, as if it had been hit particularly hard.
Furthermore, judging by the architectural style, it didn’t look like a residential area.
She opened her map. Sure enough, the location was marked as a hospital.
Looking at the extent of the damage, Moira Lynch thought to herself, ’There probably aren’t many survivors here.’
’After all, besides doctors, the only people here would be patients and their families.’
’Setting aside the families, the patients themselves were already ill. Facing a sudden attack, few would have had the strength to escape.’
’They were either all captured, or...’
Moira Lynch hoped it was the former.
At least being captured by the pirates meant they were still alive, for now.
However, when Moira Lynch’s spiritual power swept over the buildings, she was surprised to find a large number of life forms inside.
The fluctuations they emitted were extremely weak, leading her to believe they must be patients.
Since there were people alive, Moira Lynch, who had been about to leave, stopped and headed into the hospital instead.
Before she could even enter the hospital, a person in a white uniform trotted out to meet her.
From her uniform, Moira Lynch judged her to be a doctor or a nurse.
After recognizing Moira Lynch’s uniform, the woman who ran over was moved to tears. "Thank God, you’re finally here."
Without another word, the woman grabbed Moira Lynch’s hand and pulled her into the hospital.
Once inside, Moira Lynch finally understood why the woman was in such a hurry.
The hospital was filled with nothing but critically ill patients and newborn infants wailing to be fed.
So many patients and infants, yet only three intern nurses remained in the entire hospital.
Furthermore, all the medicine and food had been looted, so even if they wanted to help, they couldn’t.
The most critical patients were at their absolute limit.
And the infants.
There was no food in the hospital, and the infants’ parents had long since been taken away by the pirates. For days, they had survived on nothing but water to stave off their hunger, and even that was in limited supply.
Just as the situation was becoming truly desperate, Moira Lynch appeared.
At first, the young nurse thought her eyes were playing tricks on her.
It wasn’t until Moira Lynch sensed people inside and began walking toward the hospital that they got a clear look at her uniform. Only then did they realize she was truly an Escort. They were saved.
The situation was dire. Several of the most critical patients were hanging on by a thread.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch quickly took out her medical supplies.
After receiving the supplies, the three intern nurses immediately pulled out medicine and began emergency treatment.
They started with the patients with the most severe symptoms.
However, the three interns seemed to ignore the most critical patients.
It wasn’t that they didn’t want to save them, but that they were simply powerless to do so.
In these conditions, with such a lack of medicine and personnel, it was doubtful they could have been saved even in a fully functional hospital.
Besides, the three of them were only interns.
It wasn’t just those few; there were other patients with relatively severe conditions whom they were also powerless to help.
Moreover, the variety of drugs in the medical supply crate was limited; it couldn’t possibly contain every type of medicine.
Watching the three intern nurses rushing about, Moira Lynch simply took out the Priest’s Staff.
A green light instantly enveloped the room.
As the light washed over them, everyone in the room froze, staring at Moira Lynch with incredulous eyes.
The patients who had been at death’s door, with only a single breath left in them, began to stabilize.
They weren’t completely cured, but they were no longer in immediate danger of dying, buying them precious time until a proper rescue could arrive.
With Moira Lynch’s help, the pressure on the three intern nurses eased considerably.
With the patients’ conditions no longer critical, they could finally turn their attention to the infants.
Moira Lynch took out a food supply crate and removed several vials of nutrient liquid.
Of course, this nutrient liquid wasn’t meant for the infants to drink directly.
It was a special type of nutrient liquid, designed for the severely injured or comatose. A single, small vial contained all the nutrients a person needed. It could be absorbed directly into the body through injection or transdermally, making it suitable for infants as well.
By attaching the vials to the outside of the incubators, the nutrient liquid would be fed into the infants’ bodies.
While this wouldn’t relieve their hunger pangs, it would keep the infants from starving to death.
There were over twenty infants in total, all born within the last few days.
After fitting all the incubators with nutrient liquid, the intern nurse finally breathed a sigh of relief before rushing off to help the other two.
Once they finished and all the patients were stabilized, they finally had a moment to rest.
Seizing the opportunity, Moira Lynch walked over. "Can I ask why you’re here? Where is everyone else?"
Moira Lynch had noticed something odd when she came in. While the exterior was severely damaged, the inside of the hospital was a different story.
Aside from having been looted, the interior was like a different world compared to the devastation outside.
"Everyone else was taken away," one of the intern nurses explained. "We were left behind because these are all critically ill patients and infants. To the pirates, they were just burdens. It was easier to leave them here to die than to take them."
"And you? Why weren’t you taken?" Moira Lynch asked.
’She highly doubted the pirates had a sudden change of heart and left the interns behind to care for the patients.’
"When the pirates stormed in, the three of us happened to be in the third basement level. That’s where they keep the bodies of patients who die in the hospital with no next of kin."
"As interns, we get ordered around by everyone. All the dirty, tiring jobs fall to us, so of course, a trip to the morgue was our task. We never thought that this time it would actually save our lives. A blessing in disguise, I guess."
The intern nurse let out a small laugh, but Moira Lynch saw no trace of relief on her face—only bone-deep exhaustion.
