Chapter 491 - 481: Dindalon and Cheese Grass 4
Moira Lynch sat cross-legged on the Flying Device. She had changed into green camouflage, allowing her to blend into the rainforest.
As time passed, the sky began to grow dark.
Moira Lynch stopped her Flying Device, choosing to rest rather than continue traveling.
The dangers of the night were always greater than those of the day.
After all, once night fell, predators that hid during the day would emerge to hunt.
She needed to find a shelter before it became completely dark. If she couldn’t find one, her only option was to stay inside her space.
Staying out in the open was absolutely out of the question—not even something to be considered.
SMACK!
Moira Lynch swatted a patterned mosquito the size of her palm.
Ever since dusk, these things had started appearing, swarming around Moira Lynch and trying to suck her blood.
But Moira Lynch was no pushover, and she didn’t let the damn mosquitoes succeed.
After searching for a while, she couldn’t find a suitable spot, but she did find a thick tree trunk.
The tree was completely withered and looked like it had been dead for some time, but it still stood tall.
Looking at its thickness, it was just wide enough to accommodate one person.
"This will do."
As Moira Lynch spoke, a pickaxe head appeared in her hand, and she began to swing it at a suitable spot on the trunk.
Soon, a hollow large enough for one person appeared in the tree.
To avoid being easily discovered, Moira Lynch deliberately made the entrance very narrow, just wide enough for her to squeeze through.
By the time she finished, the sky had grown completely dark. A rustling sound filled the air around her. It sounded like something was flying over the treetops, and the faint roars of beasts echoed in the distance, chilling to the bone.
Without any hesitation, Moira Lynch squeezed inside and used the piece of bark she had saved to block the entrance.
After doing all this, she used her spiritual power to smear the droppings of the Lord of the Forest, which she had obtained back in the Mocha Forest, around the tree.
Animals typically communicate and mark their territory through scent.
By smelling another animal’s urine or feces, a typical beast could get a good sense of its condition.
In Moira Lynch’s memory, the Lord of the Forest from the Mocha Forest was an undoubtedly powerful being. By smearing its droppings outside, no animal should dare to approach this place recklessly.
However, this wasn’t foolproof. ’What if she encountered a more aggressive species?’ So Moira Lynch stayed in her hollowed-out tree, not daring to make a sound.
The tree hollow had no peephole to observe the outside, but her spiritual power was constantly scanning the situation outdoors.
It was only then that Moira Lynch understood why the system had repeatedly warned them of the danger and told them to be careful when it issued the mission.
From what her spiritual power could "see," the rainforest, which had been relatively peaceful during the day, had now become extraordinarily lively.
The animals that had hidden during the day emerged one after another as night fell.
Creatures like the Panla Water Grass and the Bright Red Cannibal Flower she’d encountered before wouldn’t even count as a mouthful for these things.
Constantly witnessing different hunting scenes, Moira Lynch went from initial shock to gradual numbness.
Just then, a sharp, sky-piercing shriek suddenly rang out from the other end of the rainforest.
Moira Lynch frowned, rubbing her ears, which were stinging from the sound.
’That sound must have come from a player,’ she thought. ’They must have awakened some kind of sound-based talent. Otherwise, there’s no explaining how it could travel so far and still carry such terrifying destructive power.’
The only good news was that the droppings of the Mocha Forest’s Lord of the Forest that she had smeared outside seemed to be working, as nothing had come to bother her.
Even when large predators occasionally drew near, they would quickly leave after sniffing the scent on the trunk.
And so, Moira Lynch passed the night safely, despite the scares.
The sounds from outside only began to fade when the sky started to lighten on the second day.
Squeezing out of the tree hollow, Moira Lynch stood on a branch and stretched. She had held the same position all night, and half her body was nearly numb.
She took out her green, blanket-like Flying Device and set off again, following the direction indicated by the arrow.
Her spiritual power seemed to have discovered the Dada Ducks’ territory yesterday. If all went well, she should be able to reach the area and get the Cheese Grass today.
Along the way, she could occasionally see the remnants of battles and bloodstains that hadn’t yet completely dispersed on the water’s surface, all of which were testaments to the events of the previous night.
However, none of that had anything to do with Moira Lynch.
Just then, a transparent, gelatinous substance suddenly appeared in Moira Lynch’s line of sight.
The edges of this substance were white, while the center was transparent, looking as if it were partially dry.
"Is this Water Salamander Saliva?"
[And it’s the freshest Water Salamander Saliva, too. It must have been left just last night. Master, do you know what this means?]
"What does it mean?" Moira Lynch asked, though she was internally complaining, ’Since when did Patience learn to be so cryptic??’
[It means there’s an Aquatic Salamander nearby that hasn’t gone far. If we can catch it, we’ll strike it rich!]
It had to be said, Patience really knew Moira Lynch well.
Moira Lynch was genuinely tempted by Patience’s words. However, tempted as she was, she still knew her priorities. Completing the mission was more important right now. She could always come back and catch an Aquatic Salamander later.
After collecting all the Water Salamander Saliva from the tree, Moira Lynch left the area.
Not long after she left, a creature appeared. It had six horns, skin the color of water, and its body was covered in a transparent, gel-like layer.
This was the Aquatic Salamander.
The Aquatic Salamander’s movements were not fast; in fact, they could be described as extremely slow.
With every step it took, it left behind a layer of transparent, gelatinous substance that shimmered like jelly in the sunlight.
At that moment, a young man appeared. He was dressed in a black windbreaker, wore a black face mask that exposed only his eyes, and carried a long saber on his back.
The instant he saw the Aquatic Salamander, the young man drew his weapon without hesitation and slashed at it.
However, for the Aquatic Salamander to have survived in such a dangerous place, it was no pushover either.
The transparent mucus on its body acted as a protective shield, perfectly blocking the young man’s attack.
Not only was the creature unharmed, but the young man’s saber also became coated in the mucus, making it extremely cumbersome.
