Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging

Chapter 4: Stockpiling 2

The salesperson rattled on about the RV’s features and benefits, but Moira Lynch wasn’t taking any of it in.

She had always been clueless when it came to cars. Her knowledge was limited to the basics: minivans, sedans, sports cars, trucks, and now, RVs.

But just as the salesperson had said, the RV was indeed fully equipped. It was practically a small villa on wheels, not just for living but even kitted out with recreational features.

The salesperson prattled on, not actually expecting Moira Lynch to buy. After all, one look told her the girl was young. Still, anyone who could produce a twenty-thousand deposit without batting an eye had to come from a well-off family.

’If I can build a good rapport with her now, she might become a client down the line. Just because she can’t buy it today doesn’t mean she won’t in the future.’

Just as the salesperson was lost in her own thoughts, she heard Moira Lynch suddenly ask, "How much is this RV?"

"Twelve million."

"I’ll take it. Can I drive it away now?"

The salesperson, who hadn’t expected her to actually buy it, froze on the spot when she heard Moira Lynch’s words.

When she finally snapped out of it, her voice trembled slightly as she asked again, "You’re saying you want to buy this RV?"

"That’s right." Moira Lynch nodded firmly.

Upon hearing this, the salesperson became even more enthusiastic. She ushered Moira Lynch into the VIP lounge to wait while she herself ran around, busy with all the paperwork.

Once all the paperwork was finished, all Moira Lynch had to do was sign.

"Miss Lynn, here are your keys and the purchase contract. Please keep them safe." The salesperson respectfully handed the items to Moira Lynch.

"Oh, by the way, can you have the RV delivered to a specific location for me? I don’t have a driver’s license."

"Of course. Just give us the address, and we’ll have someone take care of it for you."

After buying the RV, Moira Lynch suddenly realized she hadn’t really thought about transportation.

’Right, and a boat. A boat could be a lifesaver if it floods. And life jackets, oxygen tanks.’

’This process of filling in the gaps is definitely useful.’

However, with so many items on her list, Moira Lynch had no intention of running from one brick-and-mortar store to the next. She planned to buy everything online and have it delivered to a warehouse she had rented in advance.

Under the scorching sun, Moira Lynch decided to wander around a large nearby supermarket, hoping to find some inspiration and escape the heat.

On the way, she passed an outdoor supply store. Struck by an idea, Moira Lynch added outdoor gear to her shopping list.

’The RV is great, but it’s too conspicuous at times. It could easily expose the existence of my space.’

Just inside the supermarket entrance, she saw a display of honey on sale. Its golden-orange color looked very tempting.

’Right, my space doesn’t have any bees yet.’

She took out her phone and added "buy bees" to her shopping list.

As she walked on, she saw foldable family-sized swimming pools for sale.

’These pools should hold a lot of water.’ Thinking of the furnace-like weather outside, Moira Lynch decisively bought all twenty pools on the shelf.

Next, Moira Lynch began to stuff her shopping cart with all sorts of candies, snacks, milk teas, and instant coffee.

She grabbed some toilet paper, too, though she planned to buy the bulk of it online.

Passing the skincare aisle, Moira Lynch added a selection of products to her cart.

’What girl doesn’t like to look her best? Since I have the means, why not make myself a little more comfortable?’

She stayed in the supermarket until late afternoon when the sun was about to set.

Seeing that the temperature outside was finally no longer so scorching, Moira Lynch left her address and had the supermarket deliver her purchases to her home.

Because her purchase was so large, the staff readily agreed without any issue.

Meanwhile, Moira Lynch herself went to the warehouse she had rented.

The items she had purchased were already arriving in waves. The entire warehouse was piled high with goods, the most conspicuous of which was the RV.

With a wave of her hand, she swept everything into her space, then headed home, deeply satisfied.

On her way home, she passed a pet store. On a strange impulse, her eyes met those of a small Border Collie puppy inside.

In her past life, Moira Lynch had always loved small animals, but her financial situation had forced her to bury that desire deep in her heart.

’Besides,’ she thought, ’considering how empty the house is, getting a dog for protection seems like a good idea.’

’Though, if I’m picking a guard dog, a Border Collie is a bit too smart.’

In the end, Moira Lynch picked out five Border Collies, two German Shepherds, and two Maine Coons from the pet store.

The Border Collies would live in her space to herd the livestock and keep them from breaking through the fences to wreck the vegetable garden and orchard. The German Shepherds would be for her protection. As for the two Maine Coons, they were purely for cuddling.

The moment she paid, Moira Lynch suddenly felt a sense of peace, as if something had finally settled into place.

Looking at the puppies and kittens on the floor, Moira Lynch smiled with deep satisfaction. ’This is nice,’ she thought. ’I’m finally not alone anymore.’

With these new little companions to care for, she also bought plenty of cat food, dog food, pet treats, and cat litter from the store.

’Cat litter is useful stuff,’ she mused. ’If the water and power go out later on, it can be used to solve the toilet problem.’

Although she could easily solve the problem by using the facilities in her space, it was still necessary to keep up appearances.

As for the cat and dog toys the clerk recommended, Moira Lynch refused. No matter how realistic they were, they were still fake. How could they possibly be better than the real trees inside her space?

Back home, Moira Lynch let the little animals get accustomed to their new surroundings while she started unboxing packages. Some of the orders she placed yesterday had already begun to arrive.

After she’d unboxed everything, the cardboard was piled as high as a small mountain.

’This isn’t just cardboard,’ she thought. ’This is peace of mind.’

Finally, she stored all the unboxed items, along with the cardboard, in her space. ’The daytime temperatures are so high right now,’ she reasoned, ’what if the cardboard spontaneously combusts if I leave it out?’

After tidying up, Moira Lynch took out her phone again to order the items she’d realized she was missing today.

For items she needed in larger quantities, like cured meats and hams, she contacted the manufacturers directly and had them ship the products straight to her warehouse.

She assembled the portable pool she had bought. Its massive size instantly took up half the living room, but Moira Lynch was extremely satisfied with its capacity.

She turned on the faucet and began to fill it with water.

While browsing an app, Moira Lynch found another great item: custom-sized thermal insulation mats.

’If I use these mats to seal off the windows, the temperature inside should drop quite a bit.’

With that thought, she decisively placed the order, then bought several ice makers as well.
